What's new

India close Day 2 of the 4th Test at the Oval on 43/0 trailing England by 56 runs

That kept low.

Almost got KL.

India just need 200 run lead.

England if they bowl SC lien and length can take this game too.

Wow wow wow what a game

Imran butt is one of the best openers in tests because of his slip fielding.

from over no.10 to over no.35 is when things happen. put your seatbelts on

99 is a very handy lead. I was not impressed with the top order last night and this morning, but it’s been a really good performance from the England middle and lower order today.

Don't think so.. Bairstow & Mo throw their wicket away.. Once again they miss bat us out completely..

I don't think England will be able to chase anything over 180 against India in the 4th innings. Just mark my words. India needs 280 plus here and I think they are heading towards that total.

Don't expect much from our batsman. A collapse can happen anytime. From 100-2, we can be 180 all-out too.

Basically openers are our best batsman so collapse can happen anytime after openers fall

Because pitch is not offering much now England bowlers are now bowling much straighter lines.

I expect India to win from here. England bowlers are toothless when the pitch eases up

It needs a tough character to come back after being demolished in last test. India again showing that the belongs to the topmost rank.

Not even a single appeal, fantastic by these two.

Well batted these 2. More of this tomorrow, all 3 sessions.

Overcast and rain forecast tomorrow. It was suppose to be heat wave this weekend but weather changed. It always does whenever India bats :)

Really good effort from openers.

Eng will have to bowl really well from here on as pitch doesn’t seem to be producing much. Though you can never say for sure in England with random cloud covers and ball suddenly starts to do something.

This is India's best bowling line up ever. It helps to make up for a weak batting line up

They had 4 pacers just like you wanted.

Still you are saying this.

They picked shardul cos he can swing the ball and he did well in gabba.

Are you telling me the 4 pacers have to ve exactly upto your specifications?

If such perfection can be achieved why do we even need a captain and management

And the 4 pacers won a test when the batsmen actually contributed with the bat. If we are going to get bowled out for scores such as 191, even adding the likes of warne would make no difference to the result. Also the pacers did bat and score runs and make crucial contributions in tr only match we won

the 4th pacer has taken almost same or less wickets than Ashwin in WTC final in all Tests so far.In headingly even 5th bowler looked better. And this strategy has costed 2 WTC points for over rate penalty.

With runs on board even 3+1 will win matches. The 4th pacer isnt doing anything world beating

Wicket looked pretty flat later in the day which could be good news for India.

Get through the first hour and bat long.

England had the chance to knock India out of this game if Moeen hadn't thrown his wicket away.
Right now I would say India are 65 35. 3rd innings can usually be quite big on this surface and one big partnership can knock England down now. Anything more than 200 would have England holding their breaths.

The same happened in Australia with Labuschagne being consistently good throughout the series but wasn't able to land a KO blow to India in any game and India have some tough cookies there who just won't bow down to pressure.

Shami and Bumrah played a once in a lifetime knock.

Or else that was a loss too.

99 was a handy lead indeed, but these are now genuinely anxious times for England supporters. Their bowling looked wholly unthreatening in the evening session. Rohit and KL were comfortable.

The morning session tomorrow and early into the afternoon will feature a gloomy forecast of very cloudy overheads, so England with their seamers can come back into contention quickly, but they really faded away in that final hour.

A target of 150-200 would be gettable in home conditions for this English side more often than not — but if the lead approaches or goes past 250 (ie if India bat all day tomorrow) then I would fancy the tourists to win it, and chasing down 300 on this rather strangely paced pitch meanwhile would be close to an impossibility.

If England is confident of chasing down 200, then I would be worried.

Cos 200 lead is pretty much the max we could hope to give you guys.

The only thing that makes this series fun is that both the teams are AWFUL.

So the see saw battle is nice to watch.

A half competent English or Indian team should have demolished the other by now.

Depends on your top order. If the Indian top four performs as a unit, then the team can put up 350 minimum on this track and give us a fiendishly difficult chase of 260 or so. But conversely if you lose early wickets tomorrow then the target will probably end up being quite minuscule, perhaps as low as 120, because the English seamers have spent most of this series having the Indian middle order for breakfast.

Its gonna be a very interesting day tomorrow.

Why do I get the feeling that Moeen will be the dark horse?

Either he will be thrashed or deliver the knock out blow.

if its cloudy tomorrow as expected,England aren't gonna have much to chase

Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul took India to stumps at 43/0, trailing by 56, after their bowlers wrapped up England's first innings for 290.

England finished their first innings 99 runs ahead of India. After the visitors had bowled England out in the first half of the final session, Rohit Sharma got a lifeline early in India's second outing. James Anderson induced edge in the seventh over but Rory Burns completely misjudged a low catch at the second slip.

Rohit finished the day unbeaten on 20* with KL Rahul keeping him company on 22*. The former also completed 15,000 international runs, becoming the eighth India batsman to reach the mark.

Earlier, England resumed the day with Dawid Malan batting on 26* alongside Craig Overton who was on nightwatchman duties. However, Overton’s stay didn’t last long and was dismissed early on day two by Umesh Yadav for 1.

Then, India were able to remove Malan for 31. It was Yadav once again. Malan edged the ball and Rohit at slips took a stunner to send him back.

Jonny Bairstow and Ollie Pope stitched together a clinical partnership of 89 runs for the sixth wicket. Bairstow scored a steady 37 before Mohammed Siraj produced an inswinging delivery that did Bairstow for leg-before.

Pope continued to showcase grit to bring England to parity and extend lead thereon with Moeen Ali. The two put up a 71-run partnership during which Pope brought up his sixth Test fifty.

On the brink of Tea, Ali (35) decided to break the shackles and takedown Ravindra Jadeja but instead ended up miscuing the ball to the covers fielder where Rohit completed the catch.

Half an hour into the final session, Shardul Thakur claimed the big wicket of Pope, who made a solid 81 from 159 balls. The England batsman looked to play an outside off delivery but an inside edge resulted in the ball crashing onto the stumps.

One brought two for India as in the next over, Jadeja sent Ollie Robinson back to the pavilion for 5, reducing England to 255/9. But Woakes remained unperturbed and continued to bat with grit.

He kept hitting regular boundaries, adding important runs to England's lead, with Anderson standing firm from the other end. Woakes hit Bumrah for three fours in one over, handling the new ball with confidence. He raced to his fifty in style with a four, reaching the mark in 58 balls.

But after one ball, England's innings came to an end as Woakes was run-out for 50.

Two poor batting lines ups, making the game interesting.

English conditions are wierd and favors one team more than other. There is never a balance.
Yesterday it was tough with ball jagging all over place and Indian batsmen had to apply more.
and today good conditions and 300 runs in a day and england taking lead.
Tomorrow it could stay that way or go back to day1 conditions.
All in all nicely poised

It’s on a knife edge but I’d lean towards India if they can get through tomorow morning

Who knows Rohit might score a 150.

We all know what the hitman is capable of.

India lost this match when they gave easy runs to Pope and Bairstow...this match will be all over in the first session on Day3....India always surrenders in the first session.

Game on hai!. If India can wipe out the lead having lost only one wicket then they've a chance of winning it. Chasing even 250 in the last innings is gonna be hard for England with the pressure on. It's 50/50 at the moment in my book.

I don't have much confidence in this batting line up but England are just as bad. Lead of 150 is needed and England lose easy!

This is a brilliant Test that still cannot be called after 3 days. Hope it goes down to the wire! 50-50 for me at the moment, but India could very easily knock off the deficit without any loss and then the momentum would be with them.

it is already England's match with such a huge lead.....Needs extraordinary effort from India to make a comeback.
