Wrist spinners simply dont work in test cricket unless you're warne. You can always find a finger spinner who can do a tidier job.

Why back to back specifically? England produced a green mamba at Lord's when India toured and the very next year produced the slowest Lords deck in memory to negate a red hot Hazlewood, who was hitting the deck and was bowling with unbelievable accuracy , and Pat Cummins .

Of course, the likes of you will revert to type and blame the capricious English weather for affecting pitch preparation :)

Oh dear Lord

The Lords track is always a low and slow seamer, ever since they dug the Pavillion End ridge up thirty years ago.

Weather was overcast for the India test and sunny for Australia, later in the summer. “England” - by which I assume you mean ECB - can’t control the sky.

Haha lol just because Ashwin has no ****** idea when to take reviews when not he is now abusing and showing rat angry faces to a batsmen

Predictable. Ironic how the weather comes into play exactly right depending on the opposition England are playing that year.

Lord's 2014 was an intentional green seamer.

Nothing wrong with it at all.

But surely the pitch that couldn't be distinguished from the outfield was a deliberate effort after a flat first test wicket.

And no, you're wrong. That lords track was much slower than any lords track since they started ball tracking. It was deliberately made.

200 is about par for this pitch, the exceptional innings by Sharma yesterday is proving crucial. It's comfortably his best test innings.

Should Eng play both Foakes and Buttler going forward?

Good question. There is a suspicion that Foakes cannot play pace, which is how Buttler got the gloves back after the series in WI. But he seems to be comfy against India’s quicks today.

Buttler is not good enough to play just as a batsman and needs the gloves to play.

I would give Foakes a long run.

Meaning drop Buttler?

That'd be very harsh. He's improved keeping vs spin too

A simple way to jduge who can be a good captain tactically:

Check how good they are with DRS.

It reveals their analytical ability and emotional control.

Kohli. Poor.

Ashwin. Poor.

Rahane. Great.

Rohit. Great.

Dhoni. GOAT. (wasn't a good test captain but was a tactical genius in LOIs)

Just a theory.

Without turn?I'm talking pitches like Australia and NZ

Look what Jadeja and ashwin did even while bowling first against Australia this recent series . Kuldeep s fifer was against a weaker lineup while bowling second and with the weight of scoreboard pressure behind him .

No bro i dont think this humilation is gonna change him
He loves to take wickets but it doesnt mean he will will become broad

Just a bit more perspective will help.

He will always ask for reviews but atleast these embarassments will make him not push for it when others say no.

This is absolutely ridiculous whats happening.

Rohit as test captain? God please no.

I wrote yesterday that 250 would have been a very good score. That makes the par 200-220, with a minimum of 160 to be in the game.

The fact that India scored than double that bare minimum score was very much down to Rohit’s leading and subsequent anchoring of the innings.

329 is looking like a huge score now — enough to win the Test match by an innings, probably.

Much slower? How was this measured? Who did the analysis? Did they compare the same set of bowlers on both wickets? Provide detailed evidence or admit you just made this up.

How did they deliberately make the sky different? Perhaps some sort of satellite mirror system, put into orbit especially for the Australians? How did this affect agriculture over south east England?

Saqlain was your best spinner no?

Nope. Saqlain was ordinary apart from one phenomenal series in India. Mushtaq single-handedly won test matches in Australia, England, New Zealand, and South Africa. No Asian spinner can claim that before or afterwards.

Kuldeep was on his first tour.Ash Jaddu have years of experience behind them

The pitch might be a grubber, but Sibley, Stokes, Pope and Foakes have still all got starts. 106/8 is a very poor score when four batters have got starts.

I'd enforce the follow-on here, Kohli needs to keep the pressure on England.

Pope looked good, he should have made it count. Got out to Siraj on a wide down leg delivery.

Mustaq Ahmed was genuine ATG spinner in his prime.

Waren and Murali level performance.

50 average either side of the peak so gets forgotten.

Ashwin is so good in these conditions - drift, turn, bounce, varying angles.

Yep. India will win by an innings tomorrow if they enforce the follow-on. With the obvious gulf between the two teams on this surface, batting again would be a very defensive move from India.

Noooo....I've bought tix for Day 4.

No disrespect but it must be the arrogance of old age asking me to admit I made things up when you peddle cricketing narratives with no basis in fact whatsoever and expect everyone to believe it just because you misremembered a few events from the past.

Check out the Lord's 2014 wicket vs us:

Sweet karma that we ended up winning the game.

Vaughan throwing an ongoing wobbler about the pitch. Obviously someone didn’t warm up his bottle of formula milk enough this morning.

This is only day 2 and because of amount of time in game there is no need to enforce follow on here. Surely day 4 pitch will be worse than day 2 or day 3

Another English 2 series wonder who's had a better career as a Sky commentator than as a batsman or captain.

One of the commies...can't recall who....said inthe pre match anaylsys of lords 2014- ind vs eng...'Wheres'the wicket?!"

A good observation and analogy....

I completely agree with him, sorry this wicket is a poor representation of Test cricket, to much in favour of spin from the offset

I think Akshar's bowling has been under rated. He's not got bagfuls, but the reason the wickets fell at the other end was his metronomic accuracy.....a good backup for rav jad bowling wise...

England probably avoiding the follow-on here.

This pair playing nicely.
Likely will avoid the follow-on.

Ashwin's guilty of torching at least 2 reviews, zero reviews left now...hope it does not come to bite us big time...

Pakistan-India tourism reached its peak in 2004-2007. There were 4 full cricket series between the two countries and the political relationship was the friendliest since partition.

Great times.

Unfortunately, everything went south after Mumbai attacks.

I would love to visit Pak. I dream of this happening someday. My grandfather was in british army and was involved in building the canals near bahawalpur, attock etc and also spent lot of time in the frontier area whch is now called Khyber pk....we've had so many pathan carpet sellers and dry fruit guys looking us up asking for my grandfather throught the years, when they visited India....ah...

You are never in on a minefield. People may blame batsmen for soft dismissals but truth is batsmen get away with those shots on better pitches

Absolutely delighted that England has avoided follow on. Kohli will be forced to bat again. Need to make it count and bat as long as possible.

Why wasn't that applicable to Rohit,Rahane and Pant

Once in they looked comfortable
