What's new

India defeat England by 246 runs and go up 1-0 in 5 match series

Session count is 7-5 going into the last day so all outcomes are possible. Kohli has been a good captain so far but has a tendency to panic so England will be looking to win the first session and a meltdown may ensure.

Heavy roller may be used.

First session will be hard work.

If pacers do their bit, it would make it easier.

Root dropped off Ash.

Now Ash takes Duckett.

You can't drop catches on this pitch where blockathon is possible.

Duckett goes immediately against Ashwin, as expected. No surprise there.

That Root drop might still prove critical.

Agree with this comment on cricinfo. Good fielder at point/gully but he is such a liability in the slips. No soft hands.

Aravindhan Vadi: "I have the most admiration for Kohli the player, captain and batsman but we have to accept that Kohli's catching at slips is among the worst. It's not just this match or series but a long term defect. Really hope he can improve that soon."

That was awful.....that guy duckett is a walking wicket

How can he play for national team with such abysmal technique

Kohli should not be in any close catching position. He is an excitable character at the best of times and on top of that he is constantly thinking of how he can tinker with the field so he is hardly concentrating on the ball.

sensible-indian-fan Why is Kohli so poor in slip fielding? Any reasons or he has to move away from there?

England's run rate is 1.39.

Azhar Ali would be proud. :azhar

The pitch still ain't turning barring the odd ball or the rough for lefties.

Should give pommies a good turner. Would be fun.

At this rate india can bowl 120 overs in 6 hours play, does playing rules allow this? Or india can only bowl 90 overs?

I had the same question. I think 98 overs is the max you can bowl in a day. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

Like nas said, the odd ball turning is MUCH more difficult then every ball turning because then, you can play for the turn only.

Only on theory.

When the odd ball comes once in 2-3 overs, its not a big deal.

You keep that out and you can stay in. Plus the longer you stay, the more set you get.

The frequency of odd ball turning matters.

Put a turner here and let's see if they survive 81 overs in 4th innings let alone lose just 4 wickets. :D

If england by some miracle manage to draw this, then actual series count will be 0-0 but moral victories count will be 1-1

The odd ball is definitely more frequent than just one in 2-3 overs :P

Ashwin was a bit unlucky. Could have had 4 wickets by now any other day (Root and Moeen).

But last couple of overs, he could have been a bit better.

It seems like offies can get more from this pitch for a rightie than leftie.

Maybe but not enough to make it hard to stay.

But then if I think about it, how many beatens did a left hander have against offie today? 1 or 2 I guess.

It was the righties who got a few to turn.

Anyways, gotta be patient and work the game. England have fought really well.

England has done very well here. India is lucky they won the toss. Tbh expected much better from Indian spinners. The so called best spinners in the world struggling to knock out a team like England who just got owned by minnow Bangladesh. What has the standard of spin bowling come to

Gotta give props to England though for they way they've started this series. All heart and determination but India are Kings at home.

Should england counter attack, because they are losing anyway, so it will be better to go down fighting and score some psychological points?

Not a pitch for attacking cricket. You can survive a little longer by blocking but thats all.

Majrekar 10 mins back....when praising pacers.....great bowling on a dusty spinning pitch.

Now praising Shami.....great bowling on a dead pitch.

Yesterday....he said Amla/ABD were doing blockathon on a great turning pitch (far tougher than this pitch) in Delhi.

These commies know nothing. Hehe.
