What's new

India reach 276/3 at close of Day 1 with England under pressure after winning the toss at Lord's

I don't like the fact that Ashwin is not playing here. Ishant bowling can't be greater than ashwins batting plus bowling. now batting looks hollow

I think it has to do with the fact that Eng has just one left hander in top 6. Ashwin’s record against left handers (Average of 19) is much superior that right handers (average of 31). Further the discrepancy increases when we talk about SENA.

16 off his 18 wickets in Eng have been lefties. Including the Test championship final where he took 5 pacers wickets, all were left handed NZ batsmen and NZ has 3 lefties in top 6.

Both the openers, especially Rohit has mastered the art of blocking. He has looked untroubled at any point in his test career overseas since last year.

If you include Curran, then three lefties who can bat. India should have definitely gone with Ashwin. Unless it is really overcast and a shorter test match is expected even before the start of play, Ashwin must play in my opinion.

Fair point that can definitely be argued considering he can provide something with the bat too. I think it all comes down to what a team management thinks is the best option in given conditions to take 20 wickets of the opposition.

See this is the problem with stats and cliches.

Yes what you say is true.

But its also true that we won in Aus 2020 cos he took out smith and labuschane in that series.

Same way in WTC finals, he could have got Williamson for 0 in first innings if only we had leg slip.

And 2nd innings was a lucky escape for williamson which he himself admitted.

All this inspire of the fact that he barely bowled any deliveries to williamson in that game.

Anyways...whats done is done.

Curran destroys all of England’s hard work with one over

Another quality opening partnership so far.
Sam Curran bowling badly on a green top again

Rohit has improved a lot in Test cricket in overseas conditions. He was a walking wicket few years ago.

Curran continuing to leak runs

Sooner rather than later people will understand that this is the epitome of a bits and pieces cricketer!!

We could be at a gargantuan 220/4 by the end of Day 5.

Just when we negotiated the most difficult part of the day, England's greatest ally rain returns to aid them.

Now both the openers will need to start all over again.

Home of cricket, my foot!

Great batting by the Ind openers but the England bowling looks harmless. Sam Curran looks like a club bowler with no change of pace anymore.

Russia's greatest ally is winter.

England's is rain.

Excellent diciplined batting from the Indian opening bats, but I do think the English seamers have bowled half a yard to short.

These stop starts dont help the batting line team. Looks like Eng is getting lucky with the rain again. I am afraid Rohit may lose his focus after this break.

Yes, true....
just the kind of guy to try to go for the spectacular and try something pathetic...
but good going by our guys so far
dont think many of us had imagined this when play started
hope the TO and MO go big...as our tail starts at 7...

Revised Sessions for today:

1.50pm afternoon session
4.15 tea
4.35-6.50pm evening session
+30 mins to make up overs

Saqib should have got the nod ahead of him.

Only 22 FC games under his belt and he is not a regular in other formats either especially 50 over cricket, a smoother transition would be ideal.

England should have batted first and used the slope at lords to their advantage in the 4th innings

Eng is a poor place to play cricket. Rain is often winner here.

Cloudy as , and the floodlights are on....
some one here said its sunny etc..
good going....cmon india..

England should play test cricket based on the number of overs that must be bowled instead of 5-day test match.

England don't get any better condition than this. Perfect for any bowling attack .

2nd consecutive 50 partnership for these two...
commies just said 1st 50 partnership for us in a Lords test first innings since 1952....
so basically, opening always has been hard yakka (as the aussies say) for us @ Lords

These are good bowling conditions. Also, it is not a slow Lords wicket as many claim. Of course, if Australia were touring, you would have uber slow Lord's wicket because the weather gods usually take into account England's opposition. :)

Excellent 50 by Rohit.

Blown away by his new technique.

Had he played like this in his early days, people would have backed him even with failures.

This new technique is a revelation.

Plays so late and waits for the ball to come to him.

Very very very impressed honestly.

As usual stupid pull.

But goes for 6.

lol.

Does Rohit realize he could average 50 overseas if only he stops this stupid pull. :))

Great innings by Rohit so far.

Now he just needs to bat on and on and play a big one...

I'm even more impressed by KL. Last match he was easily the most impressive batsman.

He playing very well which was i can't even thought but after good start he just throw the wicket by playing reckless shots

Yeah...KL has been very good.

KL has a much higher ceiling than Rohit so that in a way, makes me expect this level from him.

He wasted too many years with a faulty technique. Great to see him go back to the basics.

Yeah he looks totally changed.

Except he will probably throw his wicket post 30-50.

If he changes that, he can do wonders.

India have pretty much been in charge for every day of this test series so far. england struggling to dent india with bat or ball in this series so far.

india will be happy with platform laid here.

Only problem for India is that tail starts from 1 down.

Then bats come at 4 down.

Then tail again starts at 5 down.

:P

Rahul has been calm and composed but on this wicket a good ball is going to come sooner than later. If he gets out now it does not look good on paper inspite of good application

This is now the fourth highest opening partnership at Lord's after being inserted in Test history.

Dont play this guy on the backfoot. What is wrong with KL?

Exactly thinking the same.

I don't have enough technical knowledge like you do so may not be able to articulate it properly.

Not good start.

Did you see the half front foot...half backfoot defense?

What nonsense was that?

Bro Mo is a serious danger dude. We gotta be careful.

This has been some display of proper test matching batting and temerpent. both Rohit and Rahul have truely outdone themselves with their technique. England is in trouble if they don't make breakthrough now.

Root must be feeling aweful by his discision

I fear for England once jimmy anderson and Stuart broad retire, the drop off in quality is staggering.

Another big opening partnership. We know what is coming next ... batsmen who have forgot to hold bat properly
