What's new

India reach 276/3 at close of Day 1 with England under pressure after winning the toss at Lord's

Crawley Leach Stone Root wood....almost a meme there...:)
butler- burns - broad -archer - start of another...:)
stokes-woakes-foakes....:)

92-0 can become 120-4 easily ( like last test ), so pls don't any harakiri here .

Nah they have enough bowling depths
Archer
Waokes
Stone
Robinson
Wood
Curran
Stokes
Overton
Mahmood

Well apart from woakes whose capable at home and stokes odd spell here and there, the rest are far from quality test match performers

We did that in 1st innings of WTC final, when after raising 60 for the first wicket both Rohit & Gill thought their task is over. We all know what happened post that.

Looks like KL has taken my word ,"most versatile batsman" seriously. He is blocking it everything and not looking as assured either.

Exactly thinking the same.

I don't have enough technical knowledge like you do so may not be able to articulate it properly.

Not good start.

Did you see the half front foot...half backfoot defense?

What nonsense was that?

Bro Mo is a serious danger dude. We gotta be careful.

Oh come on SIF. I dont have a lot of technical knowledge :))). Its just that Moeen generally bowls quicker and gets overspin on on the ball so playing 9n the backfoot can result in dangers of lbw.

I find it difficult to understand why Chris Woakes is not in the starting 11 and England continue to persist with Sam Curran.

And that's 100 raised for the opening wicket. Must have been a while!

Extremely good point.

But not convinced with Shaw in tests,
has limited footwork
all ok in odi and T20's when you plant your foot in the line and bash it....but he does not fill me with confidense in tests
Dont we seriously have any other young batsman?

I think you do seeing your posts. :D

True....backfoot play can be dangerous against a bowler like moeen.

If one ball skids, Rahul is done.

When is the last time India’s openers put on a 100 for the first wicket overseas?

Rohit has good record on these iconic grounds - Eden Gardens, MCG and now here in Lords.

That also is expected.

Moeen bhai is like a stereotypical hero.

Will take blows.

Then will start hitting and knock you out.

Good point. For years, I tried hard not rating him but I think he has done more than enough vs us to deserve to be rated as a very good player across formats.

Expecting India to post 350 + score with the solid foundation the opening batsmen have set. Really impressed with Rohit Sharma as I thought he would struggle in these conditions.

Is it only me or Rohit has copied Tendulkar's technique? Not sure if he had worked with him recently. Same backlift, same defence...that broad bat coming down with high elbow. A carbon copy of Sachin Tendulkar.

Who would have thought we would say it about Rohit Sharma one day :))

Me too.

Very very handy player.

The kind whose output is determined by how you use him.

CSK gave him a very clear role (all out attacker) and he wrecked teams in IPL.

Also Moeen is a bit on and off type player.

He will do great.

Then completely lose form.

Get dropped.

Work on his game and come back hungry and perform.

Then will lose form.

Same cycle.

Only in England though.

Has been miserable in India with the ball in hand.

Happiest man right now is Pujara. Rain saved him last game and now Rohit-Rahul delaying his inevitable failure :P

Harsha really is grating on the nerves now...
was a novelty in the 90's
says a whole lot which could be said without the absurd comparisons
everthing has a shelf life
should retire soon or restrict to the T20 leagues...

One ball kept low from Moeen.

On Day 1.

Yasir Shah type pitch. He would do very very well here.

Jaddu might do well here with the ball if he doesn't drop it too short.

The commies on sky also mentioned the type of grass on pitch is short and not long as in nottingham.
its rained, but with time the moisture will go away
My guess is 3.5 4th day onwards , pitch will turn

I remember on a similar pitch in hamilton 2009 - Harbie took heaps of NZ wickets and we won big...
I hope we have not missed a trick by not taking Ashwin ....

Lord's always turns in the end.

2014 it turned in Day 5.

Ishant saved us that game.

2018 we lost the game before it could even turn.

Tbf, that was a green as hell pitch with overcast weather.

This time too it will turn eventually. But we atleast have Jaddu one spinner.

Lets see what happen.

See this is the problem with stats and cliches.

Yes what you say is true.

But its also true that we won in Aus 2020 cos he took out smith and labuschane in that series.

Same way in WTC finals, he could have got Williamson for 0 in first innings if only we had leg slip.

And 2nd innings was a lucky escape for williamson which he himself admitted.

All this inspire of the fact that he barely bowled any deliveries to williamson in that game.

Anyways...whats done is done.

Agreed with what you have said that stats sometimes dont show the complete picture in terms of impact in the games. Team management went with what they thought would be able to get them 20 wickets in these conditions. Four pacers strategy looked good for India in first test. Yes Thakur can bat and his replacement Ishant cant and Ashwin could have added bit more batting depth as replacement but, would have been a difficult call especially after the first test.

What the heck was that ball....

That jagged in.

Was it that Asifesque wobbly seam ball he had been trying on first session?

Rohit was lazy on that occasion as he is on most such occasions.

Quality knock from Rohit, I think he deserved a test 100 at lords considering the way he played today.

Magic ball from anderson, i thot rohit was also a bit lackadaisical or lazy...

Well played Hitman....would have been on the lord honours board if he had seen out jim grump
coudnt ask for more...am sure no indian fan imagined 120/0 at the toss...

Cmon Che pu KL....fight on

How bad is our batting that NOT ONE person would be surprised if we are 150/4.

No one has any faith in Pujara and Rahane. Kohli has not had a good outing where he played like a champ in the past year or so.

Our middle order is pathetic. But we still continue to persist with them. Anyways, I believe this could be the last series for Pujara & Rahane. They are old and are on decline.

I must say India has played very well here.Kudos to Rohit and rahul.

It's very painful to say but india has played well.

Rahul has played a few false shot in this match. In the 84 he got in last game and 26 in 2nd inning, he batted magnificently, especially when you consider the number of times he had to concentrate due to rain interruptions.

The inevitable nick to the slips.

Pujara should retire and do everyone a favor.

Anderson gets Pujara finally , But India still in very good position here , with long batting to come.

Out...yes well done Anderson.

Bye Bye Pujara...have a good retirement and pls dont come back.

Wish hit man had seen off jim grump....he'd have 100 by now...
and unless che pu gets a monster of 2nd innings score -it will be vhiari or someone else in 3rd test....
how come we donot have anyother youngster other than shaw....

Looks like Rohit and Rahul are playing on an entirely different pitch as compared to Pujara, Kohli and Rahane.

Middle order flopping again? They only have two bowlers who are threatening- Jimmy and Ollie. See them off and score off the others. But I doubt we can do that now. Our batting is pathetic .
