What's new

India reach 276/3 at close of Day 1 with England under pressure after winning the toss at Lord's

Well played KL....soldiered on...
well deserved...cmon make it a big one....make a dent on the Lords honours board...
GO namma kannadiga huluga...fight on...
cheers M8

Pujara gone .play Vihari in next Match .

Vihari is another Pujara. He does not have it in him to score big. I would play SKY in Pujara's place. He can score quick and contribute well if he stays in for an hour. Vihari is not even half the player that SKY is.

Wish hit man had seen off jim grump....he'd have 100 by now...
and unless che pu gets a monster of 2nd innings score -it will be vhiari or someone else in 3rd test....
how come we donot have anyother youngster other than shaw....

SKY is also there. One of Shaw or SKY should replace Puj.

Sky at 3 in England ? No way

SKY has a weak defense. I am not too sure about his red ball game. He seems more like a flamboyant LOI merchant.

Well SKY is 30 and hardly a youngster...but i guess worth a try, ,might as well as throw him in -if not now - phir kab?
am not sold out on Shaw in tests..dont know if he is the real deal,
I guess Vihari is the first cab off the rank - unless pujara gets a big one in 2nd innings...

Is it that the younger gen in India put IPL over all, and Test cric is not their priority?

India looking good for a big first-innings total here , that would put pressure on weak England top order

Lean patch of Kohli has made sure among the people that his milestone of 70 centuries and 50+ avg in all formats is a joke.

gee whiz....vK has to really score big and win his battle against grumps ....
one more wicket and its gonsville for us....

Younger generation players like Pant and Washington only helped India win the series in Australia. Ofcourse, injuries don't help. Gill and Sundar are injured. So, we are left with Vihari in M.O as KL will continue as opener only for now.

Indian tail of Ishant, Bumrah, Shami and Siraj is a joke.

We should have played Ashwin in place of Ishant.

Kohli is looking out of sorts. And he found it beneath his stature to play the practice game. Well done.

Kohli is in serious trouble here , don't looking in confidence at all .need to get few boundary from middle of bat to get some confident back .

Add our joke batsmen at 3, 4, 5 to it, will add another dimension to our crappiness.

Kohli averages 23 during last 2 years in away tests.

Kohli is now off the mark.

Yes i agree....
However, maybe in place of siraj...

Lords favours tall bowlers who bowl down the slope...Glen McG always got lots of wickets
Ishant is similar....hopefully he will make a massive difference....
4 pacers wont do our over rate a lot of favours though
lets hope for the best....
meanwhile hope Virat wins this round against anderson

I recon one full over of Jimmy to Kohli will see his wicket

England should let KL have the single if it’s on. Jimmy can’t bowl another over or two here and it will be the game basically because Kohli will settle in and score vital runs

Middle order flopping again? They only have two bowlers who are threatening- Jimmy and Ollie. See them off and score off the others. But I doubt we can do that now. Our batting is pathetic .

If we lose a test series against THIS England...I will have no words man.

Without Anderson, this bowling attack is hopeless. All pressure on this one 39 year-old to get the breakthroughs.

Rahul might have just saved Kohli's captaincy stint by shielding him away from Anderson for the most part..

Looks like a 2 man bowling attack.

Indian C or D team pace attack can outperform them if you remove Anderson and Robinson.

Don't think they can complete full 90 over today .still play can extended up to 11:30 PM IST .

Australia should prepare roads like they did back in 2012-2014. Dont think this English attack would be able to buy a wicket, then.

The openers have set a great platform, no less than 400 would be worthy of their performance.

Also, the mysteries of swing eh? Overcast conditions and the ball barely swung...does the pitch have a say in this too? Lord's in good for batting early and good for spin on the final day. Swing isn't really a key here, why Australia and Pakistan have been so successful at Lords.

Plus not playing Saqib is missing a trick.

AS I said earlier England bowling in test matches has regressed , in Ashes even this weak Aussies team will beat Poms.

England winning toss and not batting shows how timid they are , this was a pretty good batting strip , any other captain would have batted first here

Meanwhile a fine Hundred from Sir Alastair Cook for Essex.
He is still better than many current England batsmen.

Rahul was at 20 of 105 balls at one point. He has now gotten to 90 of 197 balls. So next 70 runs in 82 balls.

75 runs partnership here so far , India would want to out bat England here , England has to bat very well to save this game , because this time there will be no rain to save them :)

Wood has thrown down everything at Indian batsmen but has been rendered totally ineffective.

Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul broke a 69-year-old record for India at Lord's on Thursday in the ongoing second Test with their gritty opening partnership against England

Rohit and Rahul put on a 100-run opening partnership in a Test match for India at Lord's for the first time since 1952. Vinoo Mankad and Pankaj Roy were the last Indian openers to achieve the feat when they put on 106 for the first wicket against England in 1952 at the home of cricket.

But India's latest opening combination managed to better that when they crossed the 106-run mark in the 36th over, just before the drinks break in the second session.

Rohit and Rahul also managed to go past the highest opening partnership by a team after being asked to bat first at the Lord's when they crossed the 114-run mark in the 41st over thanks to the latter's first six off the innings.

England's Alastair Cook and Andrew Strauss's 114-run stand against South Africa in 2008 was the previous best managed by openers after being inserted into bat in a Test at the home of cricket.

Moeen averages 18 at home against us while he averages 49 in India!

Kohli was really lucky there, did the ball hit stumps on its way to the boundary?

KL Rahul was excellent last week, and even better this time. Superb hundred.
