Wicket looking flat as Pamela Anderson's back, but the odd ball keeping low may come back to bite us...

Katich starting to cut lose!!

And there's his 50! A top effort from the most maligned Aussie player since Kim Hughes. Very important knock in the context of the match.

Any kudos from fellow Aussies?

Spinners are not effective at all at this point. Kumble should try Ishant from the other end.

Nope, wasted too many deliveries. It's a flat track and still he bats like a snail.

Typical Indian track though right? Bit of help early for the seamers before flattening out for the first couple of days. Come day 3 and 4 and it'll take more turn with some variable bounce. Day 5 depends on the deterioration of the pitch.

Needless to say, it was a good toss to win. Aussies should try to make the most of it whilst the Indians have to make them work for every run.

From what I've seen , Kumble and Harb have offered too many bail out balls - too many easy deliveries to score runs off. Have to keep it tighter and mistakes will come.

He is scoring as fast as Ponting... :Evil

Come on yar, his S/R is 43 compared to Ponting's 47. Not much difference that. Plus his job is to bat for as long as possible and give others support and license to play freely. He has a job here and is doing it.

Agree. If anything he should have tried Ishant from at least one end.

Ponting averages 12 in India he has an excuse for batting slowly.

Krapich always bats like this.

Now Ishant is desperate. He is trying too hard as he knows the ball is old and the track is dead. Regardless, I hope he gets a wicket.

Point taken. Suppose it's tough to see an opener grind it out after having years of blokes like Hayden, Langer, and Slater.

I still think Katich is doing an important job though..

You are still on his case. Katich is batting superbly according to the current plan. BTW it is a test match brother.

The current plan is defined by the unfortunate fact we have a snail masquerading as an opener.

See now the scoring rate is going up, Ponting S/R is going up, where is Katich's? The same.

Runrate for the last ten overs is 4.7, so I wouldn't worry about Katich's SR. Ponting's making up for it.

We need a breakthrough 1 wicket should do the trick.... Come on boyssssss stayy stronggg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..

All I am saying is that he is batting perfectly okay by the standards of a test match. Whenever a first wicket falls so quickly, the next two batsmen make a plan according to the situation and the plan was that nothing risky no matter what and if anything it would have been ponting going after the ball. If Australia is in a better situation at this moment, it is only because of these two. Ponting's strike rate 52.38 and Katich's 43.16. It is not like there is a huge difference there brother. :)

Ben W: "Why is it Indian supporters are so quick to search for someone to blame. Kumble has a good cricketing brain while being a great ambassador for your country and as soon as the wickets dry up (on the first day mind you)he cops a bagging. Fair go."

Spot on :P

Ponting on his way to a 100!

You are crediting Katich with far too much planning there. This is how he bats. Makes no difference if Hayden went out early or not.

And you are not going to convince me about Katich I can't stand him and want him out of the team as quickly as possible.

I wonder who can tell me the score.....hmmmmmm....oh look ! Romali !

Hey Romali ! What's the score ?

(he he)

Where is that Indian poster that "would bet every dollar he had earned in the past 6 months" that Ponting would fail dismally in India?

We might not see him again :D

Now that's a different story. It is not really about convincing you, just sharing my thoughts, you agree or disagree and I guess that's what the beauty of commentary threads. right brother. :)

Wow big change in tune coming from an Aussies supporter who wrote Harbhajan's bunny off before the series started :)) ...

True brother :)

Finally Krapich goes!! Axcellent :younis

Ishant Sharma takes one of his rare wickets, was a privilege to be watching.

I never wrote him off, don't be telling fibs.

I just acknowledged he had a poor record in India and we should not expect too much.

In comes Hussey

Amazing player, but his last series in West Indies was very disappointing...

Of the 14 times Ponting has been dismissed in India, it was only 1x by a non-spin bowler (Prasad)......

Big final session for both sides. 2/3 wickets in last session and day belongs to india. Aussies will be looking to be around 250/2 at close i guess..

What are the bowling speeds like today? Anyone

Ponting is quite pumped up on his 100. Truly a flawless knock by a great batsman. :14:

Well done Punter, Brilliant knock! Now make it a double

175/2

Damn I just got my stream working again and Mark Nicholas is on, waxing lyrical about whatever.....

Dhoni drops Hussey, must be "tired"

Now fumbles a take, yep definitely tired. Must be all that cricket he has played lately.

These high scoring games on flat tracks are booooring....

But still woke up early to see how Ponting would do :P

Mate its no fibs if you really insist I can bring up your old post when I brought up the topic, you said Ponting 'our' captian wouldnt last long....

Top knock by Punter. He's made a statement, loud and clear. Still has a lot to do though...

Zaheer's looking a bit overweight and he's coming off like a 12 foot run-up and bowling at about 80 mph. Not exactly inspiring stuff.

Mate don't confuse humour and banter with opinions.

Check the Ponting thread I just bumped :D

Yeah, he also looked a bit overweight to me, but i thought it was because this broadcast is in 4:3 and my tv is set to widescreen :P

He has his own restaurant, is it?

The variety in the Aus attack will be handy on this pitch. Assuming they bowl well of course.

But Indian bowling looks a bit flat with 2 spinners and 2 seamers, no other bowlers used.

Weak captaincy if u ask me... why not use sehwag for a few overs?

Kumble is not a very imaginative captain. He is great fighter and a tireless fierce competitor but imagination/innovation is not his strong point.

I just loved the way you said that. Such beautiful use of the world "usual".
It has changed btw, he is pumped up now and is bowling ~85mph with a hint of reverse swing. I think he might get a wkt here.

@Kumble: as of lately, ive seen a lot of disappointment at his face.. it also reflects in his bowling stats...

And it's not just Zaheer - Dravid, for the first time in my life, looks like he's put on a few pounds. Even Sachin's looking a bit chunky, but I guess he's always been a little stocky.

CAUGHT AND BOWLED not given :)) :)))

-edit-
Have to say, in realtime, it didnt look out

Awesome Job By Rudi, Caught & Bowled Not Given :)....

Awesome indeed! He consulted with the other umpire who would have had a better view of it and made his decision accordingly. Good umpiring!
