Wow - doable ? any demons in the pitch ?

Well so far they have scored 100 in 40 overs. So no.

If these 2 start to get things going, then they might think about it.

But very hard to score 4 an over on a fifth day pitch when there are no field restrictions and no restriction on wide balls or leg stump line.

I thought it was doable, but they have been overly cautious. With Australia not posessing a good spinner to be able to use the fifth day pitch, India should have gone for it. May be a bit late in the day for that now.

Wonder if Cameron White has ever bowled with 4 men in catching positions before?

To his credit he has not been murdered as some predicted (mostly Aussies to be fair)

It was maybe doable but India do not play cricket that way.

I am a bit disappointed. Was a great opportunity to put one over on the Aussies.

Why do they have so many players at boundry

That was the ace up Pontings sleeve, the Indian batsmen cannot sustain the effort to run singles and put pressure on the fielders. India look silly now, they are too scared to take on the Australians and try to win this match. This is good for our team to see India admit that they dont trust themselves to beat Australia. Ponting has completely outwitted them.

Even Aussies played very defensively on this pitch. I think Indians would be very happy they didnt lose this match. The first 2.5 days were dominated by Australia. While the tail stepped up in this match, Indian tail starts at 7 with Dhoni and cant be relied upon everytime not to mention fragile ganguly and flashy sehwag and missing front foot gambhir. Aussies bat way upto no 8.

Sachin needs another just 18 runs! Aussies have a chance to choke him.

Come on guys. Remember India were 24/2 and then 77/3. Consolidation was the need of the hour.

Let us see how they go after Tea.

Haven't drawn it yet Bones, but agree India would be happy with a draw.
As usual Aussies have jumped the Indians early in the series.

Tendulkar 47*, Laxman 28* at tea.

India now need 169 off 35 overs. Out of reach you would say.

What I meant Bones is that India were never going to try and get 299 anyway. They just don't play cricket like that, I have never seen them play that sort of Test cricket.

West Indies, Pakistan would maybe have tried to go for it. I doubt Australia these days would have tried either to be fair.

A. R. Rehman is also very very good, but he is #3 on my list (of course the best of the post 1990 era by some way).
My mother absolutely loves A.R. Rahman (the artist of course). I too am a big fan of him.

If these two can remain together for another 15 overs then 120 in 20 should be game on.

Cricinfo: 'Tendulkar has looked solid, resolute, determined to wipe off the blemish that lack of fourth-innings Test-saving innings has brought.'

I guess they must have some jealous and sour grapes PPer infiltrate the commentary team and he is making such ^^^ things up about the Greatest Ever :miandad

so, sachin requires 17 runs to become the leading runs maker in test cricket!!!!

Usually SRT century results in an Indian loss ...

score update pls

When they will end 50 odd runs short in the end, only then will they realize how big an opportunity they blew!

Tendulkar wasn't happy with light, and then he gave away his wicket. This always happen!

Very clever from Ponting, with Tendulkar trying to make the light an issue Ponting immediately brings on a slower bowler and positions a short cover which results in Tendulkars wicket.

Ponting is not going to let India use the light and will use slower bowlers to keep them out there.

He should be good enough to forget about the light AND anything else around him. He let himself down by playing a semi-forceful stroke. Should have played defensively OR followed through with the bat not this bloody halfway shot.

playiing more than 20 overs alone on last day saving a test match is called choking?

I was referring to Tendu's knack of giving his wicket cheaply whilst approaching a half century/century. He needed to see his team through to the close as he was the set batsman. Regardless of Tendu's knock, India were pretty much assured the draw I reckon - they would of played really recklessly to lose the match on that deck.

Draw - Moral victory ? for whom and why ?

Winning draw to aussie. They batted, bowled, fielded better than the indians. Won most (if not close to all) the sessions. Playing away from home on wickets they are not used to against a side "littered" with "superstars", whilst they have a very inexperienced line-up themselves, with a fanatical crowd against them.

Moral victories are worth nothing.

Doubt even if play resumes that we can get the wickets. Disappointing not to win, we held the upper hand for the entire game.

Imagine India would be happier with the draw than Australia because they always get mugged in the first Test and improve from there.

For Australia some really good signs out of this Test:

Ponting's field placings and captaincy was great
Watson bowled well, took wickets and scored crucial runs
Mitchell Johnson was the best of the bowlers, quick hostile and on target for once.
White didn't get murdered, took a wicket and hit some important quick runs at the end (although didn't matter in the wash up)

Some not so good signs
Haddin again conceded a mountain of byes
Lee was no good

And the bloke who cost us the game by batting far too slowly, Simon Krapich :batman:

For India what changes do they make

Kumble should sit out for Chawla (or Ojha)

Badri should come in for Ganguly or Dravid- stop viewing the Fab 4 as one unit where either all go or all stay.

What has the Badrinath done to deserve a spot? Failed in the A games and the warm up game.

Bring in the YUVI please

I would take a draw for now,,will have to wait for next test match for Sachin to become the greatest run scorer of all time...

We didnt do too bad did we?

No, aside from the fact you are playing at home and we have the weakest team Australia have fielded for many years. And you just scraped a draw thanks to weather and Krapich.

:D

Good for us is that the Fab 4 all sort of made runs, at least they made as much runs as each other so will be very difficult for the selectors to drop one or more of them without being unfair.

^^To what level will the Aussies not go, in order to win?

To rephrase:

To what depths will the Aussies not stoop, in order to win?

67.1 Clarke to Ganguly, no run, flighted delivery on the off, Ganguly comes on the frontfoot and looks to defend, off the pads to the fielder at silly point, HUGE APPEAL!! for a bat pad turned down, they will appeal for everything now

:)

Be careful now!! Your statements might hurt racial sentiments...

not THAT good of a match actually, this was surely going to be a win for one of the sides if australia hadn't played at that snail pace in the 2nd innings.

Which actually means that they did what they had to do. 1st objective in test cricket: Play yourself into a position from where it would be difficult to lose and then go for the win. So, well played aussie!!!

^^
That's true Keith. But winning the toss is important here. They should have been more aggressive in trying to register a win in this match. Let me tell you that if India wins the toss in the next match, Aussies will get slaughtered.

no ways matey!!! The aussies that i have encountered (since i have joined anyway) on this site have never complained about umpires or their decisions and the race card has never been used by them either!!

They have however reacted to a number of posts where "racism" has been implied and good on em for that!!!!!!

Maybe! But if the indians win the next toss they will surely bat and the aussie attack will cause more damage than the opening bowlers of india did. They are more hostile and more aggressive than their indian counterparts in this department.

What was really encouraging (from an independant viewpoint anyway) was the fighting spirit that the lower middle order and lower order of the indians displayed. Awesome stuff it was!!!!!

Very poor performance by the kangaroos with the ball.

Letting the tail wag in the 2nd innings of the match was poor, but to be able to take just 4 wickets on a 5th day pitch was even worse. !!

Maybe! but you wouldn't know that from what was on display in this match..Lets face it Mitch Johnson, although he improved upon his previous efforts was still lucky to get some of those wickets in the first inning.Indians otoh with only 2 seamers outshone the aussie attack..infact Ishant was the best pacer from both sides in the match(statistically or otherwise).

Just found this on cricinfo plays of the day

Airborne moment of the day
Ishant Sharma's first ball raced towards the long-on boundary after Watson met it with a perfectly straight bat. He tried to drive the second delivery through the off side but the ball thudded into the stumps off the inside edge. The impact was so hard that one of the bails flew three quarters of the distance towards the third-man boundary.

wow!!thats just awesome.

The thing about luck is that you create your own!! The aussies were rather poor with ball, i agree with you, but i do not see such a professional outfit performing twice like that, in a row. They are just too professional for that!! Lee had a bad game of note, he is due to deliver SOON!! Should the fact that the aussies performed so poorly with the ball not however highlight the state of the indian batting and how poorly they performed? If the aussies can bowl poorly and still take 15 wickets heaven help anybody when they do perform!!!

The facts that aussie batted a bit today and alot of time was lost on the day and the ausies still managed to take 5 scalps should be an eye opener to the indian batting line up!!!!
