Like the way Dhoni is resting Ishant and ussing him in quick bursts, I cant believe it took this long to find an Indian captian with a good head on his shoulders..

Ganguly> Dhoni

No surprise Flintoff is gone already out to Mishra.

When will England wake up and realise Flintoff is not a Test match top 6 batsman? Never has been, never will be.

One good series does not make a genuine batsman.

6/237 England will be out before lunch and the Evil Empire can bat merrily on their dead flat road.

lol
so when India bats its Flat Glass pitch but when Englishmen bat, its Minefield... m i right

Ganguly didnt have a thinking head like Dhoni does, he was good because he made sure aussies felt how their own medicine tasted like...

agree Dhoni has been our best captain ... as a matter of fact, he is one of the top captain ever

Thats right and the wicket should get banned when SA is 150odd for no loss and lose from that position also :D...

Dravid drops a sitter....hes catching is going down as well....like u kill a langaraa ghora...cracked wall shud be demolished as well...

I reckon Bumpcatcher is the best captain India has ever had, ever. He made the Indians believe in themselves.

Axe is the best captian INDIA has had till date PERIOD, AGREED ON THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ugh, have some respect for a batsman of his calibre :batman:

but yeah, its painful to see how glum he looks when he drops these. it'll lead to some more pressure when he bats. If he can't score on this pitch, its time to call it a day

Lots of familiar faces in the crowd. It really hurts that I'm not out there. This is the first winter since 2000-2001 that I haven't been able to go and watch England.

I hope you mean for India. He is galaxies away from being one of the best captains ever.

No matter what the score is on the pitch.

It is dead flat no bounce no pace dreary wicket. I kinda preferred the raging turners TBH.

Are you going for the Mohali test?

You Poms are crazzzzyyyyyyy :) ...

Now comes the hard bit for India, getting rid of the tail is something we can never seem to do...

I'm not totally sure I agree with your pitch assessment. It's already taking spin and one or two are keeping low. It's far from being the kind of pitch we saw last time there was a Test in Chennai.

I can just see this pair edging closer and closer to 300

New ball should be taken imo

I haven't seen any footage of this game, I am just assuming it is a dead flat road. :D That's the internet way!

Sadly I had to cancel my trip to India, and due to health issues it's going to be a while before I can tour again.

I've got my eye on next winter in Pakistan if that tour happens, but if it doesn't look like happening, I might be tempted by South Africa.

Is England scheduled to tour in Pakistan on next winter?

Here's to a speedy recovery :)

The really crazy poms are the ones who are willing to pay £80 or more per day to watch home Tests. By watching my cricket abroad instead of at home I can both save money, and avoid a big chunk of our winter! That's one of the reasons why so many English fans travel abroad following England.

A friend of mine who was at Edgbaston this year reckoned there were more England fans at the Basin Reserve in Wellington in March than were present on day 1 at the Edgbaston Test.

Winter 2010? So after Pak tour of Australia?

ya...finally after 10 yrs Pak will play a Mcgrath/Warne less Aussie team...Pak shud take a cook book to Aus on how to make Kangroo curry... :akhtar

Hope you feel better BigH

I thought PAK were touring AUS next winter.

Thanks!

I think England are scheduled to tour SA late November-January, then be in Pakistan around February 2010, so my guess is that it would be after Pakistan's Australia tour.

With home conditions and the high temperatures don't u reckon India should be playing 5 genuine bowlers? I reckon they can afford to lose a batsmen and play an extra bowler.

Yaar you are going to menace us on bouncy pitches with :sohail and :rao

:akhtar won't be there

Back on topic, Prior and Anderson doing well.

6/263 they would hope to get to 300. Seems they may survive the session after all.

Anderson gone. Useful knock though. On the down side, it guarantees that England will continue mindlessly using a nightwatchman whenever we lose a late wicket.

At the moment, their selection policy looks a good call. Yuvraj did a good job yesterday.

Swann gets an unplayable delivery from Harbhajan. Leapt brutally at him off a good length, and it's gloved to slip. If the pitch keeps doing this, 277-8 might not be a bad score!

Amazing how much cricket these English boys play. G Swann isn't even 30 years old and he has already played 170+ first class games.

Yet they suck at it :p

England with two spinners could be dangerous if they could get a 150+ target for india on the Fifth day.

i thought that was more due to good bowling

Lunch. 294-8.

Yesterday after lunch the pitch was at its most docile, but started doing things later on in the day. If England can stick around for 45 minutes to an hour after lunch, things could get very interesting, although of course we don't know how the pitch is going to behave once it's had the roller on it.

Would be nice having you in SA! Remember, that if ever you make it to SA you have a place to stay in friendly Port Elizabeth!!!

He does tend to get more bounce than most other spinners, but there was something a bit freakish about that one!

Pitch is going to appear a lot flatter after England finish their innings. LOL.

Thanks. If I do go, I might just take you up on that. I'm sure your place beats most places I've stayed while watching cricket over the years!

Classically stated!!

All the demons will be "rolled out by the roller" and the scoring rate will be increased on a friendly batting pitch!!!

Having read about a number of your exploits in earlier threads you are probably correct BUT i am sure that you would not change anything, even if you could though. The memories that you have from those "excursions" must be awesome man. Nothing that money can buy anyway!!!

Exactly. From the sights I've seen and the food I've eaten to socialising with the wonderful, eccentric people who follow England abroad. I've seen some really great cricket matches as well of course. Fortunately my touring has spanned what turned out to be something of a golden age of Test cricket, the like of which might never be seen again.

Now that I'm married and have a mortgage, doing every tour would require me to work more overtime than my health will allow, and being away for longer than would be fair on my wife, so I'll have to pick and choose from now on, with the main emphasis being on the subcontinent.

Until the first wicket falls and Dravid makes the pitch look like a minefield again.

They were saying earlier that the humidity is 97%!

I think if Jimmy Anderson can find a decent line and length he could be a handful in these conditions, whatever the pitch does.

Anyone know who the lad is who's body painted with the Indian flag? I saw him at every Test when we toured in 2006, and I've noticed him quite a bit on TV at other matches since. He seems to be India's answer to Pakistan's Chacha, England's "Jimmy", and Sri Lanka's Percy.

They've just shown the Harmison dismissal and how much the ball turned. If Yuvraj is getting the ball to turn that much, there has to be hope for England!

Yeah, but 300 ish is not a good enough score first innings in India.

And what the last two series India have played has shown is that apart from the openers the rest of the elderly team don't play spin well at all, add yuvraj who is a poor player of quality spin bowling and England is in this up to their ears.

england batsmen need to learn how to protect tailenders, they continue to expose them and keep playing safe by being on non striker end.
for 10th wicket stand of 6 overs, monty faced 26 deliveries.
KP used to take single off first ball of the over in last Ashes series

Eng 316 All out - Will find out what sort of Total that is after India have batted once. Doesnt look enought to me.

India 2/0 in reply.

50 for Matt Prior, wondering if he'll start to hit now.

England are all out i doubt it!

Indian inns has started and england bowlers are bowling way to short. Ball needs to be pushed up a little here!

Apologies! Realized I hadn't hit post and when I did, it was all over.

11/0 now as the poor short of a length dross continues to be bowled...

They've matched up Gavaskar with Bumble in the commentary box.. wondering how this would sound.

Sehwags poor record against england continues. Out for 9 as he drags one on from anderson

16/1

James Anderson seems to have tightened his line and length significantly from last time I saw him. Nice pace, good line.

Anderson has bowled well and Flintoff seems to have settled in straight away.

1st showing of spin from england just before Tea and Swann starts with an awful 1st ball which is hot for 4

34/1

Swann makes amends and Gets GG

34/2

India in a spot of trouble now.

I have no sympathy with Batsmen who choose to pad the ball away.

Jimmy P-adams use to **** me off most when he use to do it.

Only if a bowler is bowling outside leg stick and negatively should a batsmen choose to kick ball away!
