What's new

India v England | 1st Test | Rajkot | Nov 9-13, 2016 | Day 2

Gotta give credit to England, England scoring such a gigantic total against India in India, I don't think any visiting team can challenge Team India like that.

If Saha had not dropped Stokes, India would have had a good chance of restricting England to 450 and still have had an outside chance. 537 is way too much. To have any chance, India will need to get 500 themselves latest by Day 4 1st Session.

Is this true that whenever Ganguli came to commentary then India looses every time??? street cricketer

India needs to play for 2 days min to draw this test, catching has been shambolic the trivial Kiwis team has got the Indian team overconfident.

Why do Atherton and Nasser keep mentioning about the minefield conditions in Bangladesh on air while talking about that series or Eng/Bang players.

I admire both very much as commies but it looks a case of sour grapes to me.

English pacers will love this. On hindsight, we should have probably picked Bhuvi instead of Mishra.

May be still cannot digest 10 wicket session :)

India can still score on this pitch and get a draw. See of England's seamers and they will definitely score of the spinners.

Man if Gambhir scores, it will be over for Dhawan and Rahul, I prefer Dhawan and Rahul over Gambhir

England need to pick up at least 2 wickets in final session to feel like they have had a good session with the ball come the close of play. Lets see how scoreboard pressure plays out...

Sanjay Manjrekar showing his jealousy against Pakistan when they played in England. :p

Sanjay spurting rubbish out, why wouldn't we have faith in Azhar,Misbah, and Younis? :))) :)))

Thanks Athers for backing us up.

First time I'm seeing Sanjay talk something against Pakistan.:yk

Usually is a cheerleader. JaDed always complains about that.:msd

Moen getting more respect than usual and that's how India will fall

Yeah, we gave him 19 wickets in England by not giving him respect.

We should treat him as a proper spinner and give due respect to him. I don't want to see the batsmen slogging and giving away their wickets to him.

India on a rollicking start here. Probably going to score around 500 me thinks. There is no "BITE" in England's attack to be honest.

what did he say ?

Was diappointed that England didn't beat Pakistan and that Pakistan didn't have faith in there batters and there bowlers are usally the match winners.

Athers said Pakistan played well even if the pitches were flat.

Gambhir doesn't even look like scoring vs Moen Ali and seems to be happy playing dots.

I am not too sure if it was fair to drop Gambhir few years back.

He had a lean patch but still I think he didn't got as many chance as Viru/ Yuvi and then younger players like Rohit or Rahane(Odis) has got.

Gambhir got a lot of chances,

Was decent in ODIs but very poor in Tests

Haha so true i guess he found his inner "Fake nationalism" ,now doing surgical strike in commentary :P

Gauti actually doesn't look against spin anymore or maybe its just me being bias against him

Rashid into the attack, this should be interesting. I just realized the amount of bowlers and batsmen this English team has is remarkable.

His open chested stance is preventing him from getting his front foot to the pitch of the ball for those outside off. Will be in trouble when pitch breaks down more against Moeen.

Both batsmen looking good here. Taking wickets here will not be easy. You need to flight more and induce mistakes.

I heard alot about kohli being aggressive captain this and that but under bowling in form leg spinner doesnt warrant his aggressive captaincy. or may be mishra was bowling rubbish . dont know.. your thoughts?

Looks like a good batting track with something in it if you have some good bowlers. Doesnt look like either side has that xfactor bowler who can get something out of this surface.

I expect india to bat well and this match should end up in a draw. If they dont collapse tomorrow but with Kohli in the side I doubt it.

Was good to watch their bowlers get thrashed today and Im hoping someone lands a bouncer on gambhir lol

so india will bat another 130 overs ,score around 500.
i
England will get out for 140 in 50 overs in the next innings and india will win the match by 6 wickets.

This pitch will remain a highway for another day at least and then on day 4/5 should start to fall apart and resemble the moon. Key for India is to make this game a 1 inns shoot out.

Expecting a collapse in the first session tomorrow. England need to have the bowl of their life and take a 1:0 lead here. Do that and they can even win the series.

Kabhi toh acha bolo karo yaar

I hope we score 450+ and trigger a 2nd innings collapse on 4th day.

We will not score aggressive enough to force a win in our favor. Our firs target will be to avoid follow on. We do not have Shikhar Dhawan opening here. He is our aggressive opener. Vijay is a slow scorer. Gambhir will play for his place. He will not take any chances. Outside of Kohli, no one plays aggressive in top order.

What India can do is damage England's bowlers. I do not care if this is a draw. Just make England bowlers bowl for 2 days in the sun and make them tired. Will be a big ask though. The weight of the scoreboard will play its part.

Will be good for the upcoming Test matches of England bowlers are tired and stressed.

Gambhir played a breezy knock vs NZ last test, so....

Gambhir scoring a century will be fancy

He may score a 100 if the pitch remains flat like it was for the 1st 2 days. But runs on such pitches should not be taken seriously.

Hopefully Rahul will get back into the team as soon as he is fit. He is much better than Gambo.

A young rahul will surely going to be better than gambhir

but to keep it simple if he perfom's u can't keep him out regardless of the pitch type

Bw too much hate for gambhir on this forum...May be he past his prime but back then he was a handy player with great temperament, the way he literally saved napier test was astounding

Will be hard work for england but they need to remember that ut is ashwin saha and jadeja at 6 7 and 8. These guys should struggle if it reverses properly.
Try to keep the score down to 320 -5 by end of 2maw and then day 4 is moving day

Gambhr is not a long term prospect. He was an awesome player from 2008-2011. Then he declined. He had a terrific run in 2010 IIRC. Rated top Test batsman in the world.

India has to look into the future. Gambhir does not fit into the schemes. He should only play when Rahul or Dhawan or some youngster gets injured.

Looks like it is heading to a draw. At least one of of the Indian batsmen is going to hit a double century.

If India are 320-5 by the end of the day tomorrow, the tail can easily add another 100 runs even if the ball reverses. Ashwin/Jadeja/Saha are all very good lower batsmen especially in Indian conditions. The match will end up as a draw.

The only way there is a result is if India collapses tomorrow to say 300 all out. Then England can bat 2 more sessions, have a 450 lead and declare and then take out India on 5th day.

The chances of India winning this is less than 1%.

Considering the conditions, Draw is most likely followed by England win.

Disagree bro. If india bat 5 sessions from now they cant lose. And that leaves england in a potential soit of bother

England surely has it's tails up at the end of the 2nd day. First session today will be most crucial for the Indians. The cracks in the pitch opening up, and that is not a good news for the Indians. They are batting with one less batsman ... so more pressure on them. Test Match Cricket at it's very best .... should be to watch today.
