What's new

India v England | 1st Test | Rajkot | Nov 9-13, 2016 | Day 2

When you drop so many catches it affects everyone.

Add to that bad bowling and our batsmen would walk out with very low morale.

Yes...England's chances of wining are super high.

Need a super human performance to escape defeat here.

Kohli to hit a double. You read it here first.

Before this Test no touring side had scored a ton against India in 3 years. Now Root and Moeen have both registered, and Stokes may be about to do the same. In the space of 2 days.

England certainly looking strong favourites to win this first Test now.

India are used to never getting out of third gear at home, having lots of fans cheering on their soft runs and spinners taking cheap wickets, and generally having things easy. It will be fascinating to see if they are able to cope with the pressure of 500 on the scoreboard after a long deflating experience in the field of dropped catches and getting battered by a rapid run rate.

Kohli when he is good....is incredible. When he is bad, sinks to low depths.

Just like Ashwin I guess. :))

Shocking captaincy really.

Jaddu should have bowled earlier. He was our BEST BET to keep things tight earlier in the day. Ash was getting the ball to turn (albeit of very slow deliveries) and was looking to get in the groove and was troubling Stokes a bit who is now on 84.

But they rarely bowled while Mishra got infinite overs.

Utter filth he bowled. Only good for absolute turners.

Kohli is good in attacking when pitch is helping, but lacks damage control tactics. These matches are good to see how he responds. He was fuming at Mishra but continued to bowl him.Weird

130 runs in a session.Unacceptable in any circumstances

Yeah,Ash was troubling Stokes and then replaced by Mishra. So many weird moves. Its like he promised Mishra to give him X amount of overs,no matter the situation

Next match will be turner for sure, will be interesting if Mishra is played

He will improve. His defensive game against NZ was good but such tests will make him get better.

Today's moves have no logical reasoning.

How hard is it to understand that you gotta bring your 2 spinners in tandem and go for the choke?

Both will run through their overs and strengthen each other.

Shami getting some shape so not all that bad.

I would have gone for choke and made changes if that didn't work.

How is the pitch? Is it as flat as the ones you get in UAE?

Nope. Will turn more. Also more in it for the seamers. Thats why England are gonna win. They made hay while the sun was shining and now batting is only gonna get more difficult

England's depth is ridiculous. Do they bat deeper than any team ever?

Their number 10 averages 30+ in F/C and List-A with multiple hundreds. :))

They might not be ruthless, but they are becoming very hard to beat over the course of a series.

moin bai might do a damage with ball as well here. he is very smart bowler.

Kohli has this fascination with leg spinners. Played Karn Sharma over Ashwin on a turner at Adelaide, preferred Mishra over Jadeja against West Indies and Sri Lanka and today handed the advantage over to England by over bowling Mishra. It doesn't take a lot of brilliance to figure out that Ashwin and Jadeja are India's best bowlers and they are most effective when they operate in tandem but Kohli seems to periodically forget this.

Century by Strokes , Third in inning after Root and Moeen.

Karn Sharma

Mishra has done well on turners, but when its not working you gotta react

Ben Stokes is the best all rounder ever, what a firestarter

First three knocks vs India 0,0 & 0 next innings 100, bang bang

This is one of those myths which are based on his LOI performances. He averages 40 in India, has taken 32 wickets in 11 matches at a SR of 82. Still gets selected and with high expectations.

No on turners he does well, check his performance in SA series or SL

Every Indian pitch isnt turner

11 wkts in 4 Tests against SA at 37 on the most spin-friendly pitches seen in India for a long time. Did well last year against SL. In India he has been uniformly rubbish

People would get offended when I said that India would have lost test matches against South Africa and New Zealand if they had batted second. :)

Meanwhile, Ansari is smashing Ashwin around too. Always great to see an overhyped player brought down to earth. Hoping to see India at least 4 down when I wake up in a few hours.

Need to target Gambhir with tight L&L stuff, Vijay with bouncers and Kohli with a sixth-stump channel. Rahane will get dislodged by one of the spinners and Pujara will be taken care of by reverse swing. After those five, the lower order will crumble due to the pressure.

What says he isn't? I refer to his bowling, which is Anwar Ali-esque.

Woakes can bowl, that's why I like him.

Lol, he is far better than Anwar with the ball and several levels above as a batsman. Anwar is rubbish in both departments, Stokes has really improved as a bowler and will only get better.

Best all-rounder in the world by some distance. Anwar is not good enough for this level.

Toss is crucial in Asia, but more than that, it is the pitch.

After a long time, we have had a level playing field in India. Australia will still get smashed in these conditions because they have zero application unlike England who are prepared to dig their heels outside their comfort zone, but yes South Africa would have competed very strongly on such pitches too.

Not sure about NZ, apart from Williamson and Latham, they lack quality and depth.

Apparently I've been only following the game via Cricinfo and Social Media..... Gotta say England are in a very strong position with the centuries of Root and Moeen.

But this is India and Kohli is captaining so I am pretty sure they will come back and win this game comfortably come day 5.

There's no way we are winning this test brother and you know it. :srini

Kohli has been real poor with the bowling changes.

England surprisingly going a bit slow after the lunch break. Hopefully they eat more time out of the match. Will need that because of our long tail.

Tangerine Trump winning election, England thumping India in India.

What a week.

I think the real reason behind our debacle this match is the absence of Rohit Sharma. He has that intimidation factor that team fear, the ability to change matches in a session. The English would've been intimidated by his presence on the field, need to get him back asap.

Rohit sharma? we needed the legend Ishant to bounce out the English just like at Lord's. Bulied england worse than anyone not named Mitch johnson.

England really punching India out of the game.

Three centurions in the inning.

Stokes is injured. Good news for India if he can't bowl.

So when the pitch is not a raging turner Ashwin's figures reads as follows

Overs | Maidens | Runs | Wickets
44 | 3 | 157 | 2

Make Whatever you may of that..........

Come on Broad! This guy used to open the batting for Leicestershire at one point, how did he become such a mug with bat?

England should hit out.

Best they bowl an entire session today. And come back again tomorrow refreshed

Varun Aaron's only achievement in his cricketing career - managing to turn Broad from a genuine lower order batsman to a panicky tailender.
