What's new

India v England | 2nd Test | Visakhapatnam | Nov 17-21, 2016 | Day 2

Second that.:yk

My heart skipped a beat when Shami put Rashid in his rightful place with that Misbah-esque six.

Basically, India saw 2 batsmen score big runs, and Ashwin get a 50....on a flat pitch.

455 all out, and that too an hour before tea on Day 2, lets England into the game.

Should have batted nearly all day today, and had a small shot at England before close...30 mins or so. Now England have a chance to draw, unless India manage to pick up early wickets. Cook & Root will be crucial on this pitch.

India 455
England 6/1 (3.0 ov)
Cook out

What a ball by Shami!

PayTM would have loved that too. Goes well with how they've been feasting over the last fortnight. :91:

Never a dull moment with Shami and Yadav whether bowling or batting. They produce peaches or get carted while bowling and throw the kitchen sink at the ball while batting.

Nice little partnership building here. England would want to finish the day at something like 120/1.

Root's not picking up Jadeja's length as quite as early as he'd like imo

haha literally the next ball slides right through Root who's stuck in his crease. Lucky not to be dismissed there

Bring back the mid on.

Commies are right.

This is some weirdo bad captaincy with some bad inputs by the bowler.

Bats shouldn't be given singles to escape after they get troubled.

Commentators are right kohli is been too defensive so far

Presence of root may be the reason

Personally, I have never seen Shami getting "carted" around even when he doesn't take wickets

India 455
England 60/2 (22.5 ov)
England trail by 395 runs with 8 wickets remaining in the 1st inning

JE Root 42*
BM Duckett 3*

Ash's radar back. Hasn't been spraying around.

Let's hope he keeps this up.

Jaddu gets another slip/gully (whatever we wanna call that).

Told you, Root's not picking Jadeja's length because of that extra pace. Gonna end up LBW stuck in his crease.

Kohli needs to move the field around a bit and leave gaps square of the wicket, tempt Root into playing across the line and he'll be gone before long.

Duckett is useless. You're not supposed to plant your front foot outside leg stump when the ball is turning away you muppet.

Uneven bounce and turn,Its looking really tough for eng

u need some serious quality to survive here

Sad indictment of the spin playing quality if fans think THIS condition is tough to survive.

Put Pujara in here and watch the pitch turn decent.

Ducket's angled bat is village level batting.

Watch Root the camping on backfoot and playing off Jaddu for a delivery where he should be fully forward.

lol.

If you play like this, any spin pitch will be tough.

Yep. Shows how commentators don't pay much attention to the game too, if you listen to them you'd think he was playing the spinners like Lara. Jadeja has caused him quite a few problems.

Moeen has only just got to the crease and he's already looking more comfortable than Root.

It would be one hell of a combo.

But Root has to prove himself on turners mate.

Almost got out 3 times today.

2 times legit almost.

Shaky all around.

Kohli also has to prove himself against lateral movement, but both will overcome their weakness(es).

Duckett's way of avoiding LBW is to expose all stumps and simply put bat on ball. Yeah that is going to work on these pitches.

Root has somehow got to 50, without anyone realising.

Not sure what people are on about on here though, he has looked pretty comfortable apart from a few balls, well one over from Jadeja really.

Him and Moeen are key for England. Dont fancy Stokes, Bairstow et all on a pitch which is increasingly going to wear and turn.

Cos he almost got out 4 times and any other day, he would have been back in pavilion.

He has looked good otherwise but when he didn't, he was just lucky.

Dude he was struggling throughout, most runs were from edges. That created pressure and now he is gone

Indian ppers....on Ashwin.

He has two wickets this innings....but lets be honest, both were really down to bad errors from the batsmen.

When is he going to work someone over?

7 left handers in the opposition and 2 off spinners in your side on a turning track?

Kohli will be flashing that evil grin now.

When he gets a chance mate. He worked out Hameed last game like crazy. Then went and bowled like a gully level bowler.

Now he is ok.

Will track his progress over the series.

He has lots to prove anyways.

Did you watch the NZ series?

India and Ashwin got badly exposed in the first Test. This result and performance is meaningless.

England is a better team than India overall.

Lol, lets remove all those wickets of Wasim and waqar which were of batsmen playing bat shots. Oh no, they average over 35 now

What logic is this? Anything to put Indian players down? Ashwin did have to notice Duckett's stance and pitch the ball exactly where it needed to beat the bat. He did have to pull the ball back knowing Root will charge out of frusturation

There's no way Kohli will give them follow on

I am a fan of enforcing the follow-on. Disappointing to see how rarely it is enforced these days, and I perfectly understand the logic/reasoning behind it.

Wait, what? There are 3 tests still left

No, not really, but NZ are NZ against spin. And, not taking anything away from Ashwin, conditions were in his favour.

England used to be inept at playing spin, but now work really hard on it, so would look at England as a much tougher test. Was expecting Ashwin to start getting England into knots as world no 1 bowler. But not seen it so far.

Its one thing doing it when the pitch is worn out and turning big, but he has to at least put some pressure on the batsmen when the pitch is ok too.

He has two left handers now, on a reasonable surface. Lets see how he goes.
