What's new

India v England | 2nd Test | Visakhapatnam | Nov 17-21, 2016 | Day 4

Ashwin as usual.

Comfortable followed by idiotic shots.

We need 400 lead atleast yaar.

He simply doesn't reduce the % of chance of him getting dismissed.

Anybody reckon Rahane's spot is under any cloud looking to the next test?

If England can bundle out India for under 400 lead, they are in with a chance to win.

Rahane is badly out of form. A total passenger in the team so far.

If ever kohli fails in the next few tests, India will be in deep trouble.

That just kissed the stumps. Didn't look out live either. Poor decision by 'Adharma'sena again.

India are shaky as hell with the bat.

Vijay is good but inconsistent.
Rahul looks to have some problems to sort out.
Pujara is great.
Kohli is great.
Rahane looks very scratchy.
Ashwin is good but unreliable.
Saha looks like a tailender.
Jaddu looks like a taileder who can bat.
Jayant looks fine but very new.

Overall, Kohli is pretty much carrying the line up. Others have to pull up their socks soon and start contributing. Else, England will work us out like 4 years ago.

India 455 & 140/6 (45 ov)
India lead by 340 runs with 4 wickets remaining
Kohli - 78*
Jadeja 4*

Dharmasena would have given out for that. Shows the difference between good and terrible umpire.

Kohli alone = Hayden, Ponting, Kallis and Lara

India doesn't need anyone :yk

Without Kohli we'd be losing this.

Hope he can get a 100 in both innings.

I'm not joking but we would love to have Tamim Iqbal for this series. He has made a psychological scarring on England like Anderson made on India.

Tamim would bash Anderson, Broad, Rashid, Moeen, Ansari back to Headingley.:yk

Kohli should declare after his century and team's 400. It's more than enough for Eng in 4th innings.

Tamim is the bradman for Eng irrespective of pitch :D

The way cricinfo described the catch, makes me want to view it. Can someone post it, I am at office :inzi

Please take him, I want Shoummo Sarkar to open, he is talented like Ashraful

India lead by 361 runs with 3 wickets remaining
Jayant , Jadeja Batting

Hi guys what do cricketers eat during Tea break, Lunch and Drinks breaks? Does anyone know?

I used to have biryani :inzi

This test is most likely done for England but I agree with the commentators that they should bring in Buttler for Ansari. Unless there is a Nagpur/Dhaka like pitch, it is much the better option.

I greatly fear someone will play a Sehwagesque innings here and chase the target.

Maybe Stokes.:srt

It's not possible to play such an innings on this surface ..it's keeping low and very difficult to play your shots. .grinding out is the best option here

This is a master plan by India, they are gifting their wickets to Rashid on purpose so that Rashid cements his place for the entire series and they pile on against his freebies. :kohli This is like Inception.

It looked like 400/450 was on the card and now after collapse it hardly getting 400. Eng should all out to win this at run rate of 5!

Very spirited fightback but surely this is way too many runs for England to get anyway.

Could have got 250 at a stretch, but 380 is near impossible for these batters.

Jayant Yadav should bat ahead of both Saha and Jadeja. In fact, Saha might need replacing with Pant soon assuming the latter can keep to spinners.

Win for both sides can happen if eng wants to. They should get this time. It would be another chance by generous Ind.

India vs Pakistan is not possible so we are playing it in the form of India vs England.

Good thing is that we have infiltrated England with our agent Hameed. :yk

Jayant Yadav is a proper batsman. No doubt about it. He should bat a head of Ashwin.

India has unearthed a potential all rounder here.

Pant-Ashwin-Yadav will be as good a 6-7-8 as any in test cricket assuming Pant can keep.

He doesn't play the stupid shots that Ashwin does.

Defo good.

I would like to see him play Broad today when he was in the middle of a good spell. If he can defend a bowler in a good spell, then he has a LOT of potential for India.

He should definitely bat above ashwin..ashwin won't bring you that assured feel ..but jayant bats as if he is a proper batsman

I didn't quite understand India's tactics of trying to go over 4+ an over on this pitch in the first session itself.

They could've went at normal pace and batted for 1 and half sessions. Maybe they wanted to get quick runs and wanted 5 sessions to bowl out England. Think the long batting order of England might have played on their minds.

Yadav looks like a solid top order batsman. Looks composed like Ashwin without those silly wafts outside off stump.

The way Rahane is playing Jayant needs to come a head of him.

India seems to have lucked out with this guy. A genuine all rounder out of no where.

He was there always.

Been waiting for Jayant's debut long time back. JattMaula was right. He looks like a top order bat.

He is also lead spinner material.

I hope he bowls well next.

You guys want to have a bowling all rounder to come in ahead of Rahane who averages 50 with the bat and Ashwin who has averaged 45 this year after one match :33:

Should declare now. All this tuk tuk is pointless.

They are playing to the plan.

Asked to get to 400.

The pitch isn't turning much. Slow turn only.

Its the uneven bounce that's playing up. In fact, apart from Broad who was superb, even Anderson is somewhat manageable.

I think India is doing the right thing by going for the psychological 400 lead.

Jayant looks a much more assured batsman than Ashwin.

Not so convinced about his bowling though.

Jayant Jayant Jayant Jayant Jayant Jayant Jayant Jayant Jayant Jayant Jayant Jayant

Shamayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

400 lead.

Was joking about Rahane.

If you are watching the game, you know thatJayant looks like an awesome bat.
India should give a long rope to him.

Shami and Yadav need to ball well and take out the English top order quickly. The conditions are good for seam bowling.

Rashid is bowling very well in this series. He has been better than any other overseas spinner since Swann and Monty in 2012

In modern days, only 2 tails play like tail ender - PAK & BD tail & hence we see 5/40 regularly, by both teams. Those tailenders try to play for survival without the technique & put themselves in a no shot mood. England won't have won chasing anything over their 1st innings, but this is a nice buffer that the last pair put & that's only because Shami knows he can't survive for long. Tailenders should enjoy batting rather than taking it as a burden or responsibility. If there is a settled batsman at other end, try to apply to accompany him, but don't miss something at your half with all the fields in catching positioning).

This is exactly something Imran wrote in his book - but it was explained Waquar Younis style yesterday & we came to know that Nakli Khan told either to swing blindly with bat or body, but don't ran away.

405 the target. Even from our side apart from Kohli no one looked assured across 2 innings. I hope pitch has deteriorated as it was made to look by our batters this morning!

Eng needs a record chase on Indian pitches to win it.

You scared me with that comment. Thought Jayant would be pushing 30's. Thank god he is only 26. He has a long career ahead of him.

England should try to better their 1st inns, no way they are chasing this. Now Cook needs to win the next toss otherwise they will lose that Test as well.

My boi batted well! :inzi

Just not sure we will need 2 offspinners in future :(

If JayNt can keep it tight while picking up the odd wicket and batting awesomely, he will be a great asset like Woakes to England.

The batting lineup of below is one of the best lower order/ tail in the world.
6. Pant
7. Jayant
8. Ashwin
9. Jadeja
10. Umesh
11. Shami

Maybe he should had made hay when the sun was shining in the first test.

England has a good team its a hard target but they bat deep,India cannot take this lightly not sure why the pitches aren't turning as much.

Well, he is not as good a batsman as people are making him out to be. Yes, he has good defence, but so does Bhuvi. For me, he is just slightly better than Bhuvi. Doesn't seem to have any shots to play which is required when playing with tailenders at the other end. Could accompany batsmen like Kohli, Rahane if needed. Other than that, nothing to go crazy over his batting. Could be handy for India only if his bowling is as good as any genuine bowler.

If he keeps it tight on Overseas tours, he can replace Jadeja as second spinner/all-rounder.

He was clearly holding himself back until India reached 400 lead. He played a couple of attacking shots after that and looked class like a top order bat. Too bad Shami got out.
