What's new

India v England | 2nd Test | Visakhapatnam | Nov 17-21, 2016 | Day 4

Well, he is not as good a batsman as people are making him out to be. Yes, he has good defence, but so does Bhuvi. For me, he is just slightly better than Bhuvi. Doesn't seem to have any shots to play which is required when playing with tailenders at the other end. Could accompany batsmen like Kohli, Rahane if needed. Other than that, nothing to go crazy over his batting. Could be handy for India only if his bowling is as good as any genuine bowler.

Oh, you are so wrong. Ashwin-2 is super aggressive batter with good range. Just too intelligent to slog.

6th 10for is coming for Ash - good night, need some sleep. Hope the Poms can scrap something for day 5.

Maybe he should had made hay when the sun was shining in the first test.

He was too defensive on the last day, should have hit out in the 1st session instead of waiting till lunch. Still needs to win the toss though.

How about that, top performance from Stuart Broad. I told you he was a changed bowler and he would demonstrate it in India Varun, still think he's a crap home track bully? No way, Broad is one of the best bowlers going around today in all conditions

Yeah, not bad. Bowled well in South Africa over the winter too.

Yep, over the last five years he has been pretty effective everywhere.

I just wish his batting would come back! How I miss those Sobersesque drives and pulls.

Disappointing to see our pacers not get wickets with the new ball.

Pitch not doing anything for the spinners as of now. Ball needs to get a touch old I guess.

Solid bowling by Ash. Hameed looks really uncomfortable.

Even Broad was bowling good only with the old ball

Good man!

It's not coming back is it? After being smashed in the face he lost all confidence. I remember he was actually running away from the ball facing Johnson in 2013/14 like Phil Tufnell used to.

Should start playing normally after Tea. The English bats to come don't have the determination, will and fight of the Saffers to play an all-out defensive game.

It's not hard to bat out time here yet. Problem comes when you try to score. These two will just keep blocking, but as pitch start getting more turn, it may get difficult. So much for 2nd pitch being a rank turner. Not much turn in even 2nd session of 4th day.

Two Eng batsmen made their slowest 50s and batted many overs. That was the sole big partnership in first inning for Eng. Pitch is not hard to bat out time.

I really want a 'dirty' rank turner in the next match a 'la' 'Nagpur' pitch.
Fed up of these so called "good test wickets" which produce nothing but 'blockathons'! @sensibile-indian-fan

Expected this from Cook and the rookie. I doubt others will be as good with this approach.

Geez the wicket is hardly doing anything for the spinners.

Can we borrow Broad and Anderson for a few overs?:srini

Jayanth is all about his weight, dislike such spinners but Mishra has been utter useless.

It is not as hard a target as some people claim.

Why don't Indian fans see that the Indian batting collapsed in the second innings? Typical mentality of pushing the truth under the carpet and assuming all is well.

Is this really a 204 all out pitch?

England needs only two good partnerships to win this. And they have all their wickets in hand and four sessions left.

I put my money on England in this one.

All my hopes are with Umesh and Shami reversing the ball in the last session. Conditions are way too slow for spinners.

Winning will be hard because you need to push for runs. Batting out time is easier. Its not a 204 pitch for sure if you are simply trying to bat without any intention to score quickly. Anyway, Indians collapsed big time.

If Eng has 300 to score with 10 wickets in hand in the last day, it will be still very hard. There is a reason that not many 350+ scores have been chased in 4th inning.

England's day surely,we need to figure out a way to win and BCCI needs to get us turning pitches, this is remarkbly pointless.

Pretty much everyone has misjudged with wicket. Everyone thought it would become a rank turner from 2nd day but it's hardly turning even on the 4th day. Pacers have been more potent here than spinners. India misjudged the pitch, thought it would crumble down too quickly and went for broke in the first session to get some quick runs before that happened.

The pitch however has held together very nicely just like the previous days. India probably should have batted slowly and steadily till tea and should have given England 4 sessions to survive. Yeah, that might jeopardize India's chances of winning this match and would have helped England's chances to save the match but the rash approach probably has given England a chance of a win through the backdoor.

Except that England are not even trying to win. India would love it if they actually went after the target and played a few shots.

India collapsed in the morning because they were trying to score runs and set a target which is difficult on the this pitch. Scoring 40 for no loss in the 1st session like England have done here would have been utterly pointless for India.

A pitch is either hard to bat on or it isn't. No such thing as a pitch where surviving is easy but scoring runs is difficult. It's all about the intent and England's intent right now is to see out the day.

If they had wanted to play normally, they could have and would be 80-odd but with probably one less wicket.

England absolutely need to have 10 wickets intact by the end today, if not, then no more than one wicket should fall before then. The roller tomorrow morning will flatten the track out and allow Root, Moeen, Duckett and Stokes to play their strokes.

Suck in your pride and block it out for one more session and tomorrow, they can launch a counter-attack.

No way in the hell England are gonna draw this, let alone win it. Some Indian fans are as usual panicking. This going the final test played against SA way.

No,a slow wicket is usually easy for defensive play but not for strokemaking

LOL what? You must not have watched must cricket then.

Anyone remember the nagpur pitch of 2012 vs England. It was the ultimate example of the "easy to survive but difficult to score" pitch. Pitches with no pace but consistent and slow turn make survival easy but it's still a huge task to score quickly.

Bat for five sessions? I doubt it, given the frailties of our middle order. There will be a mini-collapse at some stage and then Stokes, Baistow and the bowlers will have too long left to bat. England will be al out by tea tomorrow.

The important thing is to really make India work for the wickets.

Before the match started by seeing the pitch, I thought there was no way this match would end in a draw. I was convinced this was a result wicket. But here at the end of 4th day, all three results are possible including a draw!

Jaddu has a good rough for all the lefties of England.

He is the BIGGEST dangerman.

Ash and Jayant can't exploit that rough. Only left armer or a leggie can.

We just need s couple of wickets somehow .... SA scored 143 off 143 overs last year in Delhi and still lost finally. Waiting for that spell by someone, man it's tough to win a test on these kind of wickets against long batting lineups :(

Jaddu needs to pull back a length just a bit against Hameed. Has been a touch too full outside leg for him.

Against Cook, he is bowling perfectly to create all sorts of problems.

I think people should start giving respect to English bowling attack

Done very well over the course of 2 tests and were solid in UAE as well

are we choking?

No yaar.

Our pacers have been outbowled by theirs by a mile in this test.

They should have been taking wickets but didn't.

Our main spinners are still fresh. England haven't got off to a big score.

Hardly a choke.

Wait when the pitch starts to turn a bit. The game will change fast.

It's turning now?

How did India get out so cheaply!

There are two rough patches around the 5th stump for the left hander from one end. Rest is completely placid. Jadeja is trying to use that rough.

It's a very slow wicket with uneven bounce and even the edges aren't carrying. It's hard to time your shots here unless you're well set and the Indian batsmen were trying to force the issue right from the start but only Kohli looked untroubled here. Jimmy and Broad bowled excellent, unfortunately we don't have the pacers of the same calibre.

Not hard to score per se, but hard to score quickly (at RR of >3).

Wish we had Yasir here.

Rough outside lefties.

He uses them excellently to get lefties out.

Jaddu has been bowling well too. Just got a chance now from this end.

Lock this end for him.

It's good that we got bowled out else it would have taken more time out of the match. We have 110 more overs to get 10 wickets, these openers have done well so far. I hope atleast reverse swing comes into play in some time.

Ashwin got sharp turn out of nowhere.

Needs to pitch there and see if there is any consistent turn available from there.

3 full balls after that ball.

Fantastic test cricket.

But all it'll take is one ball to go through.

My only hope is that they get lured into chasing the total tomorrow and start going for their shots thereby giving chances.

Right now they are as solid as the mountains lining up the landscape of the stadium.

Also cook is padding almost all balls. Ash will make him play more with his dipping balls

I think something is happening in the pitch now. Next few overs will tell us.

When spinners settle in, something's gonna happen.
