I will be p***** beyond words if rain is ultimately a reason for us not whitewashing SA.

Match is on course to finish within 4 days so rain won't be a valid excuse for this match unless it washes a whole day out

We might lose more than just one day. Its been raining for quite a few days now.

All covers on now.

We might lose the entire day to rains. Forecast for tomorrow and day after are not good either.

SA fans rejoice, at least for the moment :)

Hope we can atleast get in 40-50 overs today.
Would give us enought time to get on par with SA.

We just need to hope for 6 full sessions of cricket. 4 to bat them out and 2 to bowl them out.

South Africa getting away with a draw here would be a huge moral victory for them :mc

Might be just the thing they need to sort out their heads and show up to the party. Heavily dependent on the Amla, AB and Steyn troika and with two of them yet to make their presence felt in this series, it is no surprise that they are in this position.

You live much closer to him, I haven't been that side since 2003 officially :afaq.

It definitely is a medical mystery. And those cheapo sunglasses as well, don't know why he has to sport that like all the time.

This bloody rain always plays a spoilsport for us. It came down pouring when we were about to win the Champions trophy final against SL twice. It again came down pouring when we were about to clean up the Aussies at home once iirc. Now it plays again spoilsport when we are in a dominant position against the NO.1 team. But when I prayed for 2 hours for a rain break during the 03 WC final, the bloody rain stopped and ensured we got a thrashing.

Chennai 2004.

At least we're in the lead this time.

Rain saved you in one of 2007 England tour test matches thereby giving you a historic series win.

(Btw if I remember correctly in 2003 WC Fi al if rain had ensured that the day would be washed out there would have been a BRAND NEW match the next day rather than continuing from the point where match was stopped. Can anyone correct this?

I guess his 4 wives, including one that is like 50 years younger than him is taking care of him well. Karunuanidhi and Rajni are both over due. Both should retire.

That's right. But I still maintain Sehwag would have won it for us if he hadn't run himself out stupidly.

This match is going to be called off. It doesnt look like rain is going to subside this week here.

That's speculation and he got out himself rather any cheating or bad result so Australia won it fair and square.

Let's say if the match had been washed out after Aus scored 350+ and Sachin got out first over, and the next day India won. Wouldn't it have been very unfair? What was the logic to not resume from where match stopped do you know?

Don't worry, won't rain at Nagpur & Delhi.

On those matches? Pitch wouldn't have last long enough. From what i remember, shehwag was going crazy while the other batsmen were choking. It was being played on the same pitch that Australia choked out to 150 ish.

Where are you?

It's not monsoon season or anything. Doubt ta enough to wash out a whole test match.

India just need 8 sessions imo

I thought the November rain phenomenon was only there in Tamilnadu.
Is it there in parts of Karnataka as well ?

It seems Saffas will walk away with a lucky draw here. Weather will likely stay the same for the next 3 days.

The rain might even help the Saffers win. India might end up doing some mistakes (like trying to score fast and thus getting bowled out cheaply) to make up for the lost time.

We lost that final at the toss itself. Ganguly won the toss and chose to bowl

I live in Bangalore so here's first hand info.

It's been raining here since a week. I heard it's due to a cyclone and disturbance in the Bay of Bengal. Situation in Chennai is far worse.

Very murky here as of now in Bangalore, constantly drizzling. Forecast for the next two days is the same as today. Possibility of a washout is pretty high.

This is like a hill station weather, just went out for few minutes and it's chilly. Rain predicted fr the next 2 days as well, steady n consistent drizzle. Forget the match this is pretty good time for people having a gf ;)

Just woke up to another murky, wet, cold and rainy morning.

Another washed out day expected.

This could be the turnaround moment for SA

Hopefully.

If we escape here then the next test will simply shape up this series. It was a poor batting effort against spinners where pitch was doing nothing to be honest.

Raining again Nikhil_cric
There goes the whitewash :))

It's raining continously from past 12 hours and acc to met dept it will do so for another 48 hrs or so...3rd day will also be a complete washout

Pretty much. Today's might get washed out as well. SA have some damn good luck :yk

I wish they would just consider these two days as rest days and start the day tomorrow as the second day :yk
In the olden days they used to have these rest days in between :))

Man...if Nagpur is a patta with Saffers piling it on and we collapse due to some reason, I would be furious.

How's the Nagpur pitch like? Any updates?

Ok Assuming if no rain tomorrow (unlikely) and day after and we get the full quota of 180 overs then.
India should bat for another 40 overs and erase the 130 run deficit. RR should be 3.25 which is not too hard.
Then try bowling SA out in 75 overs. Assuming they would score at about 3 or just above they would get about 230. That would leave us with about 61 overs (65-4), 2 overs deducted for each innings break.
So about 60 overs to get 230-240. It's possible if India give it a go.
This is the best we can hope for as Indian supporters :p

India shouldn't be chasing.

4 sessions = 350-400 runs.
2 sessions = Try to bowl out SA

Or we can go like

3.5 Sessions = 350 runs
2.5 sessions = Try to bowl out SA and knock out the runs which SA get

Chasing 250 and all is risky territory. If our "wonderful batting" collapses in 4th innings, SA may go 1-1.

This is an option too, we can try it if we don't lose early wickets tomorrow.
But if we do then we should just slog some away and erase the deficit and have a one innings shootout.
I don't mind kohli risking a loss for a win. No fun in life without risks :yk.
Chasing 240 in 60 will be fun if we try to go for it. Remember pak got 300 against Sl in 60 overs in Sharjah so it is possible ;-)

On a very flat pitch against SL trundlers. I don't fancy chasing here at all. The conditions are quite unpredictable and I think we should just look to score as much as we can and bowl out SA in last two sessions.

Its unnecessary to give Saffers the momentum of a win. We will hate it if they come back in this game and do something great in Nagpur.

I think if you play properly, you can get 250-300 in 3 sessions. Add the currrent 80 and you have a lead of 150-180.

You can't lose. Now bowl out SA in 3 sessions.

it wont turn in Nagpur at this time with as we r here avg temperature from few days is 25℃ n from few days it not cross 30℃

Yeah like I mentioned if we don't lose early wickets then we should look to go big just once.
But if we do then trying to reach 350-400 will take a long time and this game will meander towards a draw.
In that case India would be better served just trying to erase the deficit and going for a one innings shootout.
As I said I don't mind India risking losing to win, A chance of whitewashing the no.1 side in your backyard doesn't come to often.

If we get say 300 in 3 sessions plus 80 yesterday we will have a lead of 165. And if SA bat 3 sessions they would get to about 265 batting at around 3 rpo which will still leave us around 100 to get with no time left.

Dude...even in your plan you have bowl out Saffers in 3 sessions or 4 sessions max.

Surviving 5th day is not easy.

If SA survive 5th day pitch under tremendous pressure to simply keep blocking (where we have nothing to lose and everything to gain), then they deserve a draw.

Why risk a loss (by slogging from tomorrow) and give opposition momentum when you can bury them.

Mine is a much more risky approach I admit. I just feel that we are more in control of the game if we know our target and the rate required to get it. Than just shooting in the dark hoping to bowl the saffers out in 2.5 sessions.
Your approach should be the 1st choice provided we don't lose early wickets tomorrow. Say if we don't lose any wickets in the 1st session or just lose one we could go hard at SA in the 2nd and 3rd sessions and get the required 300-320 runs in the day.
But if we lose say 3-4 wickets in the 1st session then instead of trying to tuk and tuk and rebuild, we should just get to the saffers 1st innings score and declare and make it a one innings shootout.
Your approach should be the 1st choice though.

If two days are washed out then result is highly unlikely. India will need to bat for a full day to get a lead, and then they will have just one day to bowl out the Saffers and chase down the target. After all the rain, I think batting will be difficult on the 4th day so India may not even get a healthy lead and in this case Indian win is all but ruled out.

We should just nuetralize their lead, bowl them out in 60 overs and chase down the target of about 180-200 :D

So I guess Kohli and co were spot on. Go with the extra seamer and bowl first.

Don't know which pitch will be used for the Test. The Ranji pitches have been on the flat side for first 2 days, then spinners paradise from day 3. Expect a result oriented pitch with Manohar at the helm especially given the fiasco last time.

This is reminding me of AUS tour of INDIA 2004 where rain saved them the blushes from a crashing loss and it was washed out on the 5th day and we lost the next 2 tests :(

Who asked for your care? Ranking points is what teams play Tests for.

What teams?

Bangla test wins don't lead to any ranking points and the loss due to draws is minimal

Nah we were already 1-0 up when that rained out game happened so we didn't win the next two, with the awful way india batted in that series all we needed to do was get sehwag and that rained out match was ours anyway so who knows maybe the rain saved india from a 3-1 thumping.

Doesn't really matter, Mohali was colder. Also, its quite sunny in the afternoon even though night temperatures are falling.

Are you going to the match ?

Loss due to Draw isn't minimal, depends on who you draw the match against.

Jai stopped here from yesterday afternoon, but sun not in sight yet.I doubt any start before lunch and that too if weather holds on..

Match is all but gone, first session wiped out due to wet outfield.
Drainage in India sucks.
