What then, according to you geniuses, explains the massive difference in run rates? Considering India were pretty much bowling with 1 pacer and 2 spinners for most of the 1st innings?

My post above! Think about tactics, because both teams do.

In the last 10 years, Australia has dismissed India for an average of 34.7 runs per wicket in India and 39.7 rpw in Australia. That is an average innings score of 347 in India and 397 in Australia (which is the easier batting conditions?). 10 years because that's about the length the bulk of this lineup has been together. http://stats.cricinfo.com/ci/engine...2000;spanval1=span;template=results;type=team

This shows that Australia can not expect to dismiss India cheaply. Playing slow in the first innings was uncharacteristic for the aussies, and was probably part of their strategy to reduce their chance of losing (i.e. NOT playing for a win). Or maybe it was due to the 'excellent' Indian bowling? Take your pick or provide another theory.

Haha, classic.

^^Its irrelevant. They have the lead and will be pressing to setup a target tomorrow

If it's a draw, then it becomes relevant, if not, then yes you are correct, it will be irrelevant. If it's a draw then people will moan about the pitch, which is not the only reason- simple. Tomorrow should be a great day of test cricket.

Me speak slowly.

First innings over.

Us = Lead.

Therefore You = Behind

you guys are basing all of this based on just one inning being played by both sides. A little quick on the draw are we?

lol just hang tight and make these observations after the next test is over

It's funny how they're showing the Watson catch numerous times on super slo-mo yet they only opted to show VVS's similarly dubious catch ONCE in TOTAL

Whats even more funny, or yet disgraceful, that Dhoni was given out. Some freaking common sense needed to prevail.
Watson himself was shaking his head in denial of the catch while he never appealed for one either, yet the umpires went upstairs and stupidity was topped off by the third umpire.
Absolutely ridiculous !!

Ishant has bowled 10+ no balls in this match! not to mention he was away for like half of the first innings and didnt bowl....

Ishant 13th no ball in as many overs in the match......yeh to :aamir ka bhi baap nikala

Aussies hammering some1 is a beautiful sight as long as your team is not on the receiving end....
lol

That was dead in front - Katich you lucky lucky boi!

Though BBCI should be ashamed, they are the one who rejected UDRS for this series!!!

Its clear that Aussies are playing for a result. They have shown that they want to quickfire a decent total and hand it to the Indians.

What is a safe target on this pitch and considering the Indian Batting Line-up?

I think 300-350 should give them a fighting chance!

It's a test match so we can't know, maybe australia will bowled out for under 200.
But if Australia can continue to bat well a target of 350 will be very good.

Hmmm Simon Katich lucky again, happy bhaji hasn't strike otherwise we would have seen a stupidc celebration...

Did you want me to pass you a towl to get the egg off your face?

no talk of defensive batting today?

Aussie's walloping India all over the park, going for the win as always!

Nah Australia don't think they can beat India :fawad

lol good captaincy by Dhoni, 8 overs in and there's nobody saving a single on the legside.

:asadrauf

not much.. just that in past 10 matches he has 8 fifties, 2 centuries and averages 60.

:60:
what i meant was that Watson can score faster then Katich and since this is the 4th day, Aus needs quick runs...

I never doubted Katich's ability to score big...

Lulz at the twin spin attack with a 5-over old ball.

They are just being fair to the Aussies{dont want to scare them to much with 120km\h sizzling pace] and giving there mega fast pace bowlers the old ball.

Sharma gets 2 in the over, both pretty sh@tty deliveries. Game on.

Watson gone to Sharma the great!
Oups sharma strike again and ponting gone...
Boring cricket coming!!!!

Holy crap Clarke gone first ball!

What an over!

Wow this is crazy! Bowden referred HIMSELF for the no-ball!

typical indians. When tendulkar was called back it's all ok.
Clarke's thing as been referred but no it's not allowed

:))) This is why they didn't want the referral system...Billy doesn't care :asif

BCCI and ICC giving live join statement now : Billy Bowden has just given the worst decision ever in cricket... That has damaged test cricket a lot. We will have to wait the end of the match to know if test cricket will continue.

Credit to Sharma he's been fired up and bowling better here!

Gets Clarke now!

:))):))):))):))):)))

Good spell by Ishant, Clarke looked in all sorts after his 'non-dismissal'.

I dont know if i should be happy seing these wickets!! India are batting last on this surface :(

SOmeone has been made to eat humble pies indeed!! Tch tch..

The surface had nothing to do with these wickets. Wato and ponting played poor shots and clarke received a beautiful delevery.
It's time to praise Ishant!

Sharma looking in good rhythm, Zak also getting some reverse swing. The next session could be very interesting. Now that Watson is gone, suddenly the spinners will also get some purchase from the track.

Once the pacers have bowled a spell, time for Dhoni to throw the ball to Sehwag who will be more dangerous than Bhajji and Ojha on this track.

I find it amusing that Indian fans rant us on being too emotional and spontaneous, and yet my indian friends who were just swearing at Ishant for bowling 13 ~ no balls are now praising him way too much...

5 session to go, 127 ahead with 3 wickets down. Anything can happen.

We rely so much on Watson these days, it is quite concerning.

Need to get Hussey and North early. Those footmarks could come into play for the spinners now.

Ishant has given India a chance to get them out before the lead of 250...now its the turn of Bhajji and co...and Zaheer to make match of it

Another 2/3 wickets in this session and the game is there to be won for India.

Would be good to see a win for either side here!

Think Aus are just taking there time to get to 220 or so lead and leave just enough time to dangle the carrot to India.

Even if Australia give India a target of 500, they are not safe till Sehwag is out.
