Desperately needed Maxwell today. But "Big Show" was a no show.

Well batted by Jadeja.

Questions will be raised on why we look like a team now, and haven't previously on the tour. ;)

Because Clarke is the best Captain in the world, and there is no sense of insecurity within the team under him.

:yk

Aussie dressing room mathematics.

Funny how when you take one figure out of an unbalanced equation, it suddenly seems more sound...

Thumbelina gets Sir Rockstar

Maxwell to Jadeja, OUT, Maxwell takes a wicket second ball, although Jadeja is unlucky here. This one is pitched on a length, outside off, and Jadeja pads up. However, it turns only slightly, just straightens, and hits him on the pad. This wouldn't have hit the stumps

:out Big show gets a wicket. Where are the trolls who were here when :sachin got a lucky one? I'm guessing its different when India is playing :)

Getting fired out for not offering a shot & batting under the 3 stikes rule are not the same thing.

Thats your opinion. Aus got its share of luck this series. But the troll briagade is in full force when India gets some decisions. BCCI, DRS, Zionist conspiracy etc :yk

Great fight back from Australia, Lyon's bowled a very good long spell here. Match hangs in balance as India's gonna be batting last on this surface. 70-80 run lead is needed from India's POV.

The problem with jadeja getting a poor decision and getting out is that the runs have dried up and this could just mean a difference of 50 runs ....Aus got a monster advantage with that howler as it looked not out instantly even before the slowmo

Over rate has been too poor though. Need to work on that.

Chasing anything in excess of 150 will brew trouble for the team batting last on this surface. India will look to minimize the target by trying to bat as long as possible here.

Problem is, no stroke players left in the tank.

Scores level........... Moral victory for India..... Scored runs in more difficult conditions :)

It seems Aus cannot complete the overs in the day and that is after using extra 30 mins. Watto maybe in trouble

Garry gets his Michelle to sleep with tonight

If we can keep them to a lead of 30 or so I think we are totally in the game. The batsmen will have to make amends for a terrible first innings if we are to compete.

Bowled Lyon. Deserved the michelle :14: Australia's day. Match well poised. Pitch will be crumbling tomorrow. Spin spin more spin :ajmal

Very poor execution by us....as jadeja showed, pitch is still good enough for scoring around 300 odd...but now it seems australia will get 2 wickets within 275 tomorrow, only batting can save us in the 2nd inning now...India should be ready to chase 220+ in the last inning, our batting in this inning have been nothing but awful....

It was an all round fantastic day of cricket. Enjoyed it thoroughly.

Somehow we managed to get past OZ's 1st Inning total. Not expecting much from the remaining 2 batters but still a lead of even a 20 odd run will be very valuable on this track.

OZs 65 : India 35 for the day

Lyon in particular was awesome

What match are you watching. Jadeja was out, didn't bother to use that thing in his hands so he can head back to the sheds for that.

Tendu copped TWO gift decisions & made a valuable 30-odd.

even if the ball wasnt hitting the stumps?

Check the CI hawkeye. It missed the off stumps.

Well if it was hitting the stumps then it would be not out.

31.1
Lyon to Tendulkar, no run, huge huge lbw shout as Tendulkar is beaten on the sweep. That has pitched middle and leg, and has hit him in front of middle. Only height could have saved him, but I'd say he was a goner there. Lucky to get away with this. Kettleborough is the umpire

I think the second appeal was going over the stumps. It bounced sharply and hit him on the knee roll. The first one was plumb though.

In any case Sir Jadeja > :sachin :eek:bvioustrollattempt so I guess Aus really had the better end of the deal. Who knows Sirji would have put a 300 burger on you guys :don :yk

I can already see Bell trembling in his knees in NZ at the prospect of facing the new spin wizard Nathan Murali :murali

Tendu did not get two lives. The first was out but the second one hit him high.

Anyways great day, probably the most absorbing day this series. Will look forward for India's 300 and maybe 325!! Less than that India going to chase 250+ which is tough. For the first time, a white wash is having a probability less than 0.5!

How is bringing up actual facts sarcasm? :danish

What facts? of course guys can score 250+ against Oz (Lara 277 in Sydney springs to mind), you fail to recognise sarcasm and then try to tell others about it?

This. But some posters just make it seem like Lyon was hitting :sachin on the pads every ball :yk

The 300 is far fetched IMO. 325? Please :msd. Lets hope the last two wickets bat longer than the usual block one edge one innings. My bet is on 275. And its not :msd captaining Australia. Watto is not going to let India off the hook.

I thought you were talking about Indian batsmen. Only VVS has scored above 250 vs Aus IIRC.

Kumar can bat. He should shield the other batsmen. 300 is a possibility. Ashwin's last over dismissal nearly killed all hopes of a decent lead though. It is the Aussie tail that has given them the edge it is up to our tail to do their bit.

Youre again forgetting the main thing. Watson is no Dhoni. He will be proactive and wont go through the motions. India under Dhoni has always struggled to wrap up the tail. I can go back to matches in 2010 to prove a point. He has been clueless as a captain for that long and he hasnt even thought to identify this problem and find a solution to it.

Yep. The first 10 overs tomorrow for huge. If India score 40/0, they're miles ahead.

1/20-30 and india slightly ahead.

bowled out for lead of 20-30 and it all even.

Realistically speaking (knowing the batting capabilities of Ojha and Ishant) we shouldn't expect any more runs from the remaining 2 Indian wickets. I really can't see either of Ishant or Ojha lasting out a full over (without losing their wicket) from Lyon or any pacers of OZ on this pitch. Nevertheless, If we do get some runs from their bats it will be a huge bonus.

Chasing anything over 200 on this track on day 4/5 pitch will be impossible.

Johnson averages 23, Siddle 14, Pattinson 31, Lyon 14, together these four can add 82 runs on average. You are underestimating them while claiming that Dhoni struggles to wrap up the tail.

Tail is a big problem for most teams today. Tail-ender averages are 20-25 these days and they are capable of getting 50s and even the odd 100. Almost all SA test players have a test hundred to boot, tail is not it was 20 years ago. Tail enders practice batting in the nets and take it seriously. The effects are bound to show up. ODIs and T20s have further added the scoring tempo - runs come faster than before and the tails invariably make more runs than before.

SA, Eng and Aus have pretty strong tails, the last four adding up nearly to 100 runs on average. On their day, they can add 200 runs together. Pakistan was done in by the SA tail recently in spite of their decent bowling.

Today when Vijay got out Aussie bowlers sensed an opportunity and along with fielders went for full on sledge mode.
Warner was looking the most excited out of the lot. Sanjay and Shastri said he is totally leading this pack now.
Allan Border said that's convict blood coming out. Would like to ask is it apt to use such remarks. Isn't the word 'convict' considered offensive ?

Agreed. MSD and the bowlers in our disposal(ATM) may not have done much if they face such decent lower order batters everytime. This is where we need a bowler like Umesh or Shami who can bowl pacy deliveries at block-holes.

About us scoring 300 or 325 in the 1st gig surely looks far fetched. We don't have the lower order in the quality of Siddle/Pattinson or even Lyon (may be Ishant to a certain extent can play out few balls like Lyon).

The Aussies have turned up at last, four test matches late.

Seems like a domestic Australian social/cultural issue. Don't think it's much, there's a member called "Convict" here as well so the word doesn't flout any lines I don't think.

Consider we do come from convict blood it's not really offensive lol. We all know we're descended from shackledraggers who stole loaves of bread to feed their families during the famine. :D

Nope i don't think so, i checked HawkEye on Cricinfo and it showed it was comfortably hitting the stumps.

I think there was a stats article this year on cricinfo regarding the rise of tail enders. You can no longer assume that tail enders are sloggers who are out to throw their bats at every thing and try to score some quick runs. You may not be able to get them out with the use of pacy yorkers always. Many of them know how to defend and also have scoring shots in their book.

After dismissing the top six easy, the most frustrating thing is to have the tail score another 100-150. But this is going to be regular phenomenon and is here to stay in cricket, just like we got used to the bashing of bowlers in ODIs and T20s.

No, many Australians just laugh about it or are even proud. There was nothing just about the laws or empire that convicted them.

Especially if said by an Australian, it's no problem. But if people from other countries start throwing it around in an insulting way (where there is no friendship or banter) then that could be a different matter.

It looked not out live, it looked not out on replays, commentators says not out, cricinfo commie says Clearly not out but I'm supposed to take Hawkeye as proof :29:

I should think so. He's played less test matches and he also didn't bowl against Aus in 06/07 ashes where Anderson struggled.

Not sure why you bothered anyway. It's not like Pakistan will win a series in Australia anytime soon.

Lolwut?

:)) thanks for the laugh

Ojha and Ishant can't make runs. They will find it hard to even stay there with this turn. I don't see India adding more than 10-15 runs here. Aus on top. Just need to score 250+ and I doubt india can chase it. Wicket will get even worse in 4th innings. Aus needs to avoid getting bowled out cheaply.
