India vs England | India win 5th Test against England by an innings and 75 runs in Chennai

People who keep ridiculing modern fast bowlers because they supposedly cannot bowl more than 2 bouncers should watch that over from Umesh.

India back in the game and seems to be ahead at this point with England 310-7..

Great knock from Moen Ali..Has a case to be called as the best English batsmen in this series.

Behind Joe Root obviously..

Ashwin's worst bowling stats in a match after a long time (100+ for 1 wicket). Probably he is going to close this out again something like 120/4 maybe

Shah bowled much better in his first innings in Australia than Ashwin has bowled in his first innings here. Warne once again called him the "best spin bowler in the world".

We understand now how English fans felt when Jayant Yadav hit a century at no.9.

Thankfully this is a dead rubber.:srini

Lol nobody is judging Shah on his performance in oceania billoo. We're sure he must have had great impact than Ashwin could ever imagine.:srini

Funny you decided to come to this thread and defend Yasir.:yasir

Laxman, if you can't speak Hindi why are you in that commie box! Ridiculous stuff from star team to have him for so many tests.

Lol.. you are such an insecure guy. Ashwin will be Man of the Series here on these flat battas (despite India losing 4/5 tosses).

Come back when Yasir performs 1/10th of this on Aussie tracks. :yasir

He averaged 65 and one of his wicket was of no. 11 when the latter was hitting him brainlessly. Even the one wicket he has got in this innings is due to the batsmen slogging. Aussies have maintained 7-8 rpo in the last 10-20 overs and Yasir is not being able to do anything.

I wanted a 4-0.. Unfortunately, might not happen.

You dont lose too often with 400 on board in first inning even though they lost in the very last test.

To be fair, Yasir did bowl really well and had a few chances go down.

Still might be a 4-0. Every chance we will see a carbon copy of the previous Test.

3-1 wouldn't be a totally awful result for England maybe. Most teams have got wiped here for a while now.

Yasir may have already outperformed Ashwin in Australia :))

Still, nothing to brag about. Bilal has this habit of showing up and bragging ONLY when the player he dislikes has a dip in performance.

Amit Mishra has everything as a legspinner , i don't know why he doesn't get more wickets. Love to watch him bowl.

Good to see Rashid getting some runs. Hasn't done much with the bat all series so was due to score at some point.

Not sure how Yasir has already out bowled Ashwin in Aus?

IMHO, the Aussie pitch in this match is flat, but not as flat what India was served up. So obviously, I dont expect Pakistani batsmen to do as well as India's (if they have to equal India's performance with the bat in our last series), but I do expect Pakistani bowlers to do better than India's (if they have to equal India's performance with the ball).

Like it or not but india depends on only 2 players ie Kohli and Ashwin. This indian fast bowling has improved thing is just an illusion. If we are conceding 400 plus on our surfaces what will do when we go outside?

5 test match series, players must be tired and sore by now. Why play 5 test matches, who's actually watching this? 25 days of cricket, this can't get any more boring than this, bring on ODI's and T20 please

It is same for everyone. No one has contributed more than ashwin with the bat and ball together in this series. This is Ishant's and mishra's first game in this series. There is no question of getting tired here. :inti

Rahane is capable of scoring outside Asia.

I don't know how Indians have found this series, but it has been so boring to watch for me..

Only good parts of this series have been Kohli and Mooen's batting.

Hate Moe all you like, but his batting is very easy on the eyes.

I have found it intriguing.

Probably it would be 0-5 to India if they could catch.

It has the end-of-era feel to me. Cook will stand down, Anderson is near the end and a couple of exciting batters have emerged for England.

England have batted 5+ sessions! No way they are losing this match. India should fight for a draw now! It is easier to draw a test match in this pitch, but given the form on Indian batsmen (barring few) it is going to be tough!

Watch the match(es), statsman. Shah could have had a five-for in this match and he held one end up very well. The Aussie commentators were all over him.

You want him to do what exactly when the Aussies have a 300+ lead?

Just putting it out there. I really do want my Indian fans to see the light, which shines on Shah's face.

Hopefully the luck too ends up shining in his favour in the next match along with the light, he could've done with a few here.:srini

Could have had a five-for if catches were held. Meanwhile, Ashwin scored a blistering 150 on a day 1, regular Indian pitch.

Doesn't matter as he ended up deciding the series with the ball in the previous 3 tests.

What is the hypothetical average for Yasir?:srini

Good on Ashwin. Let's see if Shah can do the same in Australia.

On a serious note, Yasir will do better at Sydney I think. But more importantly he needs scoreboard pressure and Pakistan batting needs to stand up for that.

He is not that great when bowling first, but can run through a side if he bowls last with a score to defend. He bowled in 8 innings in England. Was a bit flat in about 5 to 6 of those where he bowled first. But he bowled second in 3 innings iirc and succeeded in all of those. So toss and making a big score are crucial for him as he is a different bowler when bowling second even with a par score.

Some ongoing dispute. So people not allowed in those stands. Has been going on for a long time now. Sad state of affairs.
Okay. Is that disputed related to Jaylalita govt?
Wasn't there a natural disaster in Chennai? Pretty sure people are not feeling all that festive.
People who are in ground would have come for fun and forget that cyclone effects. Crowd is too polite for my liking :D

Very good performance by English here,if they can win this atleast they will go with the momentum and break Kohli's winning streak.
Hopefully our team is up for challenge, just realized the importance of Jayant ,tbf Umesh has atleast tried.

wake up mate, different pitch different conditions

I think this will be a draw, unless India get 650 again. Which would not surprise me on this pudding.

Ashwin didn't really bowl garbage like in Rajkot.

He bowled well so dunno why he ended up with such figures.

Probably wasn't as consistent enough in penetration aspect which led to runs.

What was disappointing was the stunning accuracy he showed in Mumbai (something which I saw after a long time - last time, he was that accurate was in SL 2015) wasn't there today. Needs to get his flight (in WI) and accuracy (in SL) locked down.

I'd like to see an attack of yadav/shami/ishant/jadeja/ashwin for home tests though. Mishra is not test class. Or at best replace one of the pacers with jayant for his batting ability. It's high time we moved on from mishraji. Ishant's bounce allows us to exert control with the ball even on flat decks and adds another dimension to our bowling.

That won't happen every day. The truth is we are relying too much on Ashwin and he can't take fifers every ther match especially on flat decks like these with no scoreboard pressure to work with.

True but still could have done a bit better.

I would love to see a technical analysis on what went wrong.

He bowled in good pace, varied it nicely, had commies (including English) gushing about his subtle variations....yet no results.

Maybe penetration consistency wasn't good. Just 2 maidens in 45 overs which is disappointing.

Had some time to catch up on the last couple of days of this Test. India bowled well in the first session of Day 1 and kept the scoring rate down. Both openers were dismissed early - was a terrible shot by Jennings playing away from his body to a wide ball and Cook has become Jadeja's bunny.

Root and Moeen put on an excellent partnership, they especially made use of the sweep shot quite well. There was a little bit of turn on occasion even on Day 1 but Indian spinners didn't bowl with the same accuracy as they did in the morning session and bowled some looseners that were easy to put away, especially Mishra.

As for today, England nearly threw a good position away again. Sharma got some reverse. England looked in serious trouble of falling well short of what should be a par total on this flat wicket but Rashid and Dawson managed to bail them out.

Finally, England will be disappointed not have made any inroads before the close of play. Wicket still looks good for batting. This is not a dead rubber for England - they'll be desperate not to leave this tour empty handed. A win would salvage some pride.

Thanks to the pitches, this series could not be 5-0 in India's favor, disgraceful by BCCI,no point playing at home if there is no home advantage

Ashwin needs control from the other end (or scoreboard pressure) to succeed.

With England batting first on a flat pitch and Umesh and Mishra leaking runs, that wasn't the case here. Shami and Jayant were hard to score off for England.

At this moment, Jadeja would still be my first choice spinner in SA/Aus/NZ for me.

This got to be flattest pitch probably!

BCCI should have annihilated England on the last test with a turning track! Maybe Chennai in winter is not suitable for that!

That's a great reverse sweep from Rahul. The master would be proud of that one :misbah

That's why Rahul should be persisted! Classy player who can bat at good rate (55 to 65) on all surfaces in Test Matches! We need such openers

He is a natural successor to Sehwag as test opener if he matures a bit.

One of those guys who scores big at a very good clip if he gets going.
