What's new

India vs New Zealand | Semi Final 1, World Cup | Old Trafford | 10th Jul, 2019 | India Innings

Kane > Kohli under pressure.

Not. even. close.

He played a captain's knock yesterday and would have gotten a century had he not played for the team.

Kohli looked terrified the moment he came out to bat.

Kohli looked terrified even in the latter stages of Pakistan's innings in CT final. And then he looked even more terrified when he came out to bat.

Lol they are trying their best to put the blame on Dhoni again but failing miserably. :inti
What's up with Kohli, I knew he was going to go early today because of how terrified he looked.

Looked the same against Pakistan in the CT Final.

Dhoni would take the game deep with who? In 2011 he had Gambhir. Pandya is the last recognized batsman in the team right now. Rest are all tailenders.

In 2011 it was Gambhir who did the required action and after that India won easily and even had Yuvraj in the tank who was man of the tournament.

Don't see India chasing over 80 in the last 10. Need some acceleration now . But NZ have been excellent with the ball.

Tough to even rotate. Same as yesterday. In retrospect, Taylor played a gem

I think anyone else with Kohli's numbers in knockouts, and you'd have a completely different outlook on his credentials.

Kohli's numbers are extremely poor, if talking ICC knockouts only. Therefore comparing him to certified chokers like Amla or Moeen does him all kinds of favors.

Better players to compare with should be those in his class - including Williamson, Ponting, Waugh, Richards etc.

He is not in the top bracket. Not until he does it when it matters.

Really tough to balance risk and reward when you are in such a situation with only 5 wickets remaining.

Lol Pandya giving thumbs up to Ferguson after the bouncer..

This world cup is a turning point for Pandya. Excellent bowling all throughout and played key knocks with his batting. Rohit, Bumrah and Pandya will return with their reputations enhanced.

Yes, I felt the same. This aggression and swag is only for camera these days. Fact is he has failed to deliver when it matters the most. :inti

Santner 5 overs 5 runs and 1 crucial wicket of a set Pant.

And Indians were downplaying Pakistan's performance against him on that rank turner :yk :msd:

This hurts my chest. I wanted to support India this match since I believed NZ didn't deserve to be in semis. Boy I was wrong.

India hurt me bad as a neutral fan. Wth is this nonsense.

How are they going to blast in the end when it is not possible for them to take singles at this point India need to attack sooon.

It wasn’t a green pitch. It was a 250 wicket. Pakistan collapsed because of the early morning moisture and some very tight bowling. We were still looking good after the first 10 overs before Warne ran through us.

Wasim, Waqar and Shoaib were extremely dejected and their body language suggested that they had accepted that they had no chance of defending the total. They were spraying the ball around and Gilchrist made merry.

Yes I am saying that Kohli’s innings in the 2011 was way better than Gilchrist’s in 1999. That partnership with Gambhir showed his character and his ability to absorb pressure.

lol kholi got out to a part timer in that match and opened the game up for nothing.

Someone was calling him a darter yesterday :)))

I was gobsmacked by that, Santner is a smart cricketer who mixes it up.

Na he is no darter, he is an elite player who really gives it 100% for New Zealand. Exceptional bowler, fantastic fielder and a very useful late innings batsman!

:)) The desperation. He scored that at a SR of 70 with India's best batsmen yet to come/at the other end. It was of no consequence to the match. Also, it was 35, not 37. A nothing cameo and it has only gotten worse ever since he has not been sandwiched between the greatest Indian batting lineup.

Funny how you say Gilchrist's job was made easier by the Aussies but do not consider how easy Kohli had it in 2011.

You guys are correct in some way! Cricket is a team game (as I always keep telling) So all 11 players should be selected solely on merit and all players should be key players in some way! There is absolutely no room for any passengers (Just because you may have some great players doesn't give you any benefit!) Even 11 average players (equally) are better than 4 good players + 3 decent ones + 3 or 4 duds! That's what NZ are showing us today! (All NZ bowlers are looking threatening here!) You can get away on flat pitches/easy matches, but not on sportive pitches & tough/knockout matches!

Why are India allowed 3 commentators in all of their matches whereas all other countries dont have more than 2?

Thats because Indian audience his huge and these 3 commentators are always biased about India regardless of their team getting smashed by the opposition

TBH there are plenty of 2s on offer as long as you show intent

You got to feel bad for India here.. They got to bat on a damp wicket, where it rained most of the day and night yesterday... also the cloud cover didn't help either , along with the slow outfield .

It doesn’t matter if it was 35, 36, 37 or 38. I haven’t memorized the scorecards.

India were 30/2 chasing 279 and both Sehwag and Tendulkar were dismissed. SL’s tail was up and India badly needed a partnership to get the chase back on track.

It was an extremely important innings under the circumstances and your beloved Amla and Moeen cannot produce something like that under such pressure even if they live for a thousand years.

Like I said, Dhoni, Raina and Yuvraj were still to come and the angry troll was batting like it was his bridge. Kohli's 35 at a SR of 70 was of no consequence; if he hadn't scored that many, Raina would have. It was a nothing innings and a 35 is not considered a good score for a #4 batsman. Here is what a viewer had to say about that spectacular 35: ""Kohli is geeting bogged down and restless. I hope he doesnt lose his head," says Himanshu"". Kohli proceeded to lose his head to Dilshan of all people.

Any tail-ender could play an innings like that, much less the apparent GOAT ODI batsman.

Nah if NZ bowled first same scenario or worse

You can’t find a flawless career. Maybe only McGrath, but not Richards, Williamson, Ponting, Waugh etc. Kohli has done more than enough outside World Cup knockouts to be regarded as an ODI GOAT. World Cup performances enhance a career but they don’t make or break them. Tendulkar failed in two World Cup Finals but it didn’t hurt his legacy.

Williamson and Waugh aren’t in Kohli’s class in ODIs anyway.

So around 150 to get from 20 overs. Even for a T20 game that is tough on this wicket and with 5 wickets NZ should win this.

If India win from here they deserve to win the whole cup!

NZ just win the WC for Kane Willy. Please. He is my favorite non-Pakistani player.

Can never forget what he did for Peshawar kids too.

In terms of GOAT players.

Starc is comfortably ahead of Kohli. Not even the best player of his generation.

ICC trying to be funny in this tense situation... India lose Pant!

lol kholi got out to a part timer in that match and opened the game up for nothing.

After forging a crucial partnership that provides the platform for Dhoni’s counter-attack. It was a brave innings and more valuable than many half- centuries.

They build up their players like comic book heroes!

True but it shouldn’t be an issue if it helps them finding more sponsors and to make more fans.

Its just good marketing.

Lol 148 required from 20.
Exactly same runs if match was reduced to 20 overs yesterday.

Lies - not even a novice reader of the game would buy this :))

I dont know why people keep bringing up kholi when it comes to 2011! He was just a junior in that WC playing with other more senior super starts / legends and with bigger roles than his.
