If the ground is bad i don't want any of our players play. NZ/India match was cancelled because the ground was so bad that in couple of key fielding areas.

The unbeaten record will continue, other than Amir we don't have an X factor, we saw that against Aus game, one person cannot turn it around, he did all he can humanely possible but it wasn't enough. CT Final win was a one-off thing because our improved Afridi 2.0 got out on a no ball and made best of his chances, may not happen again or ever. So the streak continues.

Maybe i should upload pictures of geese jumping around in castlefield canal enjoying the rain.

Heheee true.

Several posters have been having a go at me on this thread telling me that I am lying as the BBC forecast (which is the official and most accurate forecast for them, lol) is saying that there is very little chance of rain.

These guy's just don't want to hear that the match will be abandoned.

Rain is expected till noon only for tomorrow and than it will clear with some sunshine expected

On sunday also rain is having a probability of 50 % between 3 to 4 pm

you can expect ICC to be most pro active for this match ICC chief is in manchester himself

Lets hope we get a match

CT final failure has to be put down to injured Ashwin, Jaddu, Jadhav who conceded 164 runs in 21 overs. India had zero middle over control. THat is when India made the bold call of playing two wristies at the same time. Paid rich dividens. Both in top 10 ranking. Good thing is INdia has so many up and coming leggies. Finger spinners are doomed in India.

I said closer to the game that it may be on as the chance of rain was reducing but it will be cloudy the whole day. This is pretty much what happened.

Not the case for Sunday unfortunately.

Amjid and Kroll,

I've been saying again and again in this thread that the match will be a washout but NO some people want to believe their BBC weather report which is quite inaccurate.

It's understandable, they're just hoping for the best as this is the game everyone was waiting for. Not to mention the thousands of fans who will be travelling from everywhere.

I agree.

I really hope that something dramatic happens in terms of weather turnaround in the next few days.

We will find out tomorrow for sure.

As of now there will be no match on Sunday.

But hoping that rain clouds pass away in the next day or so but looking unlikely.

This is a marquee match regardless of what happens. This is what lights up the world cup be it is soccer or cricket or any world even. Contest between arch rivals. If it is washed out it wil be a bummer.

Even 50% chance of rain means it will rain, this is manchester.

that is the wrong calculation. here is what happens in your your scenario

Pak currently for 719/150 over and against 749/113.4 overs so their net run rate is 175/150 - 749/113.4 => 4.793 - 6.589 = -1.7961

Similarly India NRR currently 582/97.3 - 543/100 = 5.969 - 5.43 = 0.539

Post your scenario

Pak will be (719 + 350)/(150 + 50) - (749 + 280)/(113.4 + 45) = 5.345 - 5.855 -0.51

India will be (582+180)/(97.3+50) - (543+350)/(100+50) = 5.166 - 5.9533 = -0.787

Oh okay, didn’t know about you have to add all the runs and overs...

I doubt we will get a game. If rains before the games and during the game , it will probably be a shortened game minimum.

Why r people so worried about the weather???
If it is going to rain it will. You will find out on Sunday.

Our starting XI vs India :)

Here is what I would suggest:

1) Fakhar
2) Imam
3) Babar
4) Haris
5) Hafeez
6) Sarfraz
7) Asif
8) Hassan
9) Wahab
10) Amir
11) Shaheen

So Shaheen getting phainti after phainti has not been factored in? I'd much rather play Shadab who will be a livewire in the field, can bat a bit and may even pick up wickets of people like Jadhav etc over Shaheen who will end up with his usual 10-0-80-2 with both wickets being batsmen mistiming during slog overs.

How's the forecast for June 23? Pak v SA?

Unfortunately not good at all.

Rain all day also on 23rd.

Pak v SA looking like a washout.

This world cup will be the worst of all.

Weather totally ruined it.

Here is what I would suggest:

1) Fakhar
2) Imam
3) Babar
4) Haris
5) Hafeez
6) Sarfraz
7) Asif
8) Hassan
9) Wahab
10) Amir
11) Shaheen

Probably best we can do but I'd go for Shadab over Shaheen who'd probably get slaughtered.

Oh khuda ki liye match pey focus karo.

We need to earn the two points. It will be a shame if it’s washed out.

We don’t get the chance to see Ind vs Pak matches apart from in the ICC tournaments.

Hope it goes ahead and rain doesn’t spoil it.

My inner Conspiracy Keanu says ICC(i.e. BCCI) already knew about heavy rain days and had put Pak v Ind on the day and ground where there was most probability of washout.

BCCI doesn't really want to face us on the ground because amidst the current situation between Pak and Ind on the whole and India being more strict towards us, they are going to take a loss more seriously than we are going to.

In a T20 scenario hope Imam and Sohaib Malik open the innings followed by Babar azam after 6 over.s

Its not just the rain which is an issue, the ground will need to dry out, the usual wasted time with inspections, taking covers on and off. Plus OT the drainage isnt great. There are expect dry spells but when it is raining its heavy.

DInesh Karthik is a must for India as he is one of the best against pace. He can ramp 145 kph balls

How does Shadab not make anyone's team after that match? We badly missed his bowling during the middle overs and not to forget his fielding.

I am pretty sure these 8 players are sure to start barring an injury:

Fakhar Zaman
Imam Ul Haq
Babar Azam
Mohammad Hafeez
Sarfraz Ahmed
Shadab Khan
Mohammad Amir
Wahab Riaz

All they have to do is select 3 out of these 7:

Haris Sohail
Shoaib Malik
Asif Ali
Imad Wasim
Hasan Ali
Shaheen Afridi
Mohammad Hasnain

Its not just the rain which is an issue, the ground will need to dry out, the usual wasted time with inspections, taking covers on and off. Plus OT the drainage isnt great. There are expect dry spells but when it is raining its heavy.

I agree Amjid.

ICC need 30 overs to be bowled in the day so they do not have to give any refund to the sold out contest

So what is your gut feeling?

A complete washout?

I dont want to take the day off, thats why asking you.

If Pakistan can beat England, why not India..
yes, India are favorites, but they can be beaten..
Bowling only Bumrah is threat and batting Rohit/Kohli
As Sachin said if we get Rohit n Kohli early we can win.

Will rain at 4pm by then pak would have bowled ind out for 250 & will be 130/3 25 overs.

Same as SA game CT17 DLS victory- boom boom

This is a honest question:

Why are you a fan of Malik?

Really started following after World Cup 2003 when Malik emerged as regular in the playing 11. Became a fan after his consistent all- round performances

He then thrived under the Inzi/Woolmer regime. I still remember his match winning performances against India. You cant really dislike anyone who performed the way he did against our arch rivals unless you were not following cricket back then. I became a permanent fan from then onwards. There is a reason why Indians till this day dont want Malik playing against them.

He was so good that he even jumped ahead of seniors and became captain after Inzamam retired. Things kind of starting to go downhill from that point onwards for one reason or another. Personally I think that bitter seniors like YK and Moyo sabotaged him but yeah whatever.

Hope he gets to play against India and answer his critics

Question: In the hypothetical absence of Malik, are Haris and Hafeez a good enough combo to fulfill the 5th bowler quota?

Dont be so negative. We all know chasing 300 plus in a WC game is not easy, especially vs AUS.

Count on Amir and Wahab to bowl their heart out. Thats a given. After the AUS debacle Shadab will be back for sure.
I'm not negative, just incredibly frustrated and furious. Australia was demoralized when they collapsed from a commanding position.

Three of our top batsmen literally gave them their wickets on a plate. I was dejected after the Windies game as we got mauled, this was like a daylight robbery that our players committed in their own house.

Pakistan legend Wasim Akram has urged fans on both the sides of the border to stay calm during his country’s potentially volatile World Cup clash against bitter rivals India in Manchester on Sunday.

Wasim, who is in England for the match as a commentator, labelled the latest meeting between the old enemies as “the biggest match of the World Cup”.

But with passions running high among both fanbases and political relations between the countries extremely tense, Wasim said the match should be enjoyed rather than used to inflame the situation.

“This can’t be bigger,” Wasim told AFP on Friday. “India and Pakistan playing at the World Cup with over a billion audience is the biggest thing in cricket, so my message to both sets of fans to enjoy it and stay calm.

“One team will win, one team will lose, so stay graceful and do not take this as a war. Those who project this match as war are not true cricket fans.”

The Old Trafford clash is a sell-out, with tickets now for sale on the black market at reported prices of around £2,500 ($3,150).

And former pace bowler Wasim admitted any India against Pakistan match has pressure, let alone one in the World Cup.

“Who can realise the pressure more than me?” said Wasim. “I used to look forward to a match against India because it brings the best out of the players from both the sides.”

Pakistan have never beaten India in six World Cup matches dating back to 1992, but Wasim thinks that poor run could change on Sunday.

“Pakistan can beat India through controlled aggression,” said Wasim, who was part of the Pakistan team in the 1992, 1999, 2003 World Cups when they lost to India.

He was sidelined through a shoulder injury when India beat Pakistan in the 1996 quarter-finals.

“Yes, I don’t have fond memories of the World Cup matches against India but I have enjoyed all these matches over the year as fans are glued to television wherever they are. It will be like that again on Sunday,” he said.

Wasim admits India have a stronger line-up, but he insists Pakistan can still shock their rivals in a one-off match, as they did in the 2017 Champions Trophy final.

“Yes, India have a strong batting and bowling line up but Pakistan can match them. When it comes to India and Pakistan game the team that handles the pressure well wins the day,” he said.

“I surely hop that rain stays off. Fans want to watch a full matches, intense and lively so we all hope that rain stays away.”

India have five points from three matches after beating England and South Africa, while their match against New Zealand was washed out on Thursday.

Pakistan have lost against the West Indies and Australia and shocked hosts England, while their match against Sri Lanka was washed out.

Pak will be (719 + 350)/(150 + 50) - (749 + 280)/(113.4 + 45) = 5.345 - 5.855 -0.51

India will be (582+180)/(97.3+50) - (543+350)/(100+50) = 5.166 - 5.9533 = -0.787

Seems like the correct calculation, will thanks for posting.

Good for you fam. At least you've not started to hate him just coz other people hate him. Well done for not becoming a sheep.

PakWarrior answer this one.

He succeeded last time to jinx rain, let him continue his work :P.
There is a huge buzz in Pakistan for this match atm. Everyone has become cricket pundit. Cricket is the only discussion going on everywhere atm in the country. ppl were not paying much interest to WC. But this match has made cricket the hottest topic. Tik tok is flooded with videos related to this match. Amir has become national hero after spell against aus. Lets pray match do happen & Pakistan wins it or at the least, Amir performs well. We are in a desperate need of a cricket hero to bring back youth to cricket.

The gap between Pakistan’s and India’s run rate is 2.335.

Net Run Rate = (Total Runs Scored / Total Overs Faced) – (Total Runs Conceded /Total Overs Bowled)

Suppose Pakistan bats first and scores 350 in 50 overs and bowl out India for 180 (highly unlikely) in 45 overs, this could be the NRR we can get:

Net Run Rate = (350/50) - (180/45) = 7 - 4 = 3.

This will make sure Pakistan’s run rate goes from - 1.796 to + 1.204.

Sorry but how many times have Pakistan EVER scored more than 350? lol

Twice in the eng series. Pakistan have scored 340+ many times recently

My question was how many times have they scored 350+ ever?

That was the scenario he was basing his NRR hypothetical on.

Might have well said if they score 500 and bowl India out for 50, that it will get to greater than 2+ overall.

My XI:

Imam
Babar
Fakhar
Haris
Sarfaraz
Hafeez
Malik
Shadab
Riaz
Hassan
Amir

Babar opening for me because he’s played fast bowling at the beginning of his innings well in the last 2 games, If he can open it’ll be better because Fakhar at 1 down would be able to face Chahal considering our opening partnership goes well and he’s a better player of leg spin, We all know once Fakhar gets going he’s not stopping.

Haris Sohail in for Asif Ali. If Haris Sohail drops 2 catches in the field, He’s at least scoring between 40-60 at a respectable enough strike rate. I’m not saying scores of 40-60 are anything amazing but it’s beyond more than Asif Ali has to offer.

I don’t want Malik to play. He’s been rubbish in the World Cup so far and his average in England is pathetic, But his replacement will be Imad who I also think shouldn’t play this game either so Malik’s record against India puts him in favour.

Shadab in for Shaheen Shah, Feel for Shaheen but we missed Shadab so much in the game against Australia. I know all the spinners got spanked for runs but Shadab would have provided a different type of variation and he’s a better batsman - His presence and energy on the field is so underrated. A fantastic fielder and we need every bit of fantastic fielding after the dross that was witnessed against Australia.

3 fast bowlers, 1 leg spinner, 5 overs each from Malik and Hafeez, Haris can also chip in if he has too.

That’s what I would do but whatever XI is named. I’m not confident of a win, 7-0 to India. Still looking forward to being there though, No matter what and as always.

COME ON PAKISTAN!

It's a good point. NRR calculation based upon least probability is far off from reality.

Weather forecast has worsened. Seems unlikely we'll have 10 continuous overs without interruption.

What is update today ?

Latest update now is:

Light rain from 9 till 11.

Then from 12pm onwards heavy rain all day.

So we might get 5 overs bowled in the light rain but not looking good.

Looks like match will be abandoned.

Praying that weather changes in next 5 to 6 hours and that rain clouds get blown away but looking unlikely.

Whilst I agree Pakistan team is awful but this concept of fluke is utterly flawed. There is no way you can fluke wins in 50 over tournament. Discrediting well earned victories using this rubbish concept is against the spirit of the sport

Agree with this one. A team can play well for a short period of time but that ain't fluke.

If India Pakistan game is abandoned without a result, ICC should brace itself.

I will not be surprised to see protests.

As soon as I found out that the world cup was to be held in England and that too in May/June I knew that games were going to be abandoned due to rain.

A tournament as important as the world cup should never be held in England.

If it is to be held in England then it should be in Mid July/August and not May/June.

Google weather saying it’s going to rain from 9-3. BBC weather is saying it’s going to rain from 3pm onwards till late although it does say light rain on both which means intervals will be expected.

One long interval expected from 11 am until 7pm.

Agree with this one. A team can play well for a short period of time but that ain't fluke.

Exactly fluke can happen maybe in T20 cricket or one off match but longer the game or tournament is chances of fluke are minimized. Specially in a 50 over tournament there can be no fluke

Not the case for Sunday unfortunately.

So even this time, you're conveniently gonna say, closer to the game, that it may be on. I see you. :genius

Former England captain Andrew Strauss does not expect Pakistan to reach the knockout stages of the World Cup but says the team can never be written off.

Having lost two of their first four World Cup fixtures, Pakistan essentially need to win their remaining five games to progress to the semi-finals. Pakistan kick-started their campaign with a dismal defeat to West Indies but recovered well to beat favourites England.

Their third match, against Sri Lanka, was abandoned while they narrowly lost to defending champions Australia last time out. Sarfaraz Ahmed’s side face rivals India on Sunday and England hero Strauss believes Pakistan will need to win their next five games to progress in the tournament.

‘I think they do [need to go unbeaten through their next five games],’ Strauss told Sky Sports. ‘And it’s not beyond them. ‘You think about previous World Cups where Pakistan have started slowly and people give them no chance. ‘And then suddenly they get on a wave of momentum and come through and get to the semi-finals. So it is possible. ‘I’m not sure they’re strong enough at the moment but they could prove me wrong.

‘When they’re on a roll they can be hard to stop. Their supporters get behind them and carry the team through. You can’t write them off.’

Fellow former England player Rob Key also says Pakistan’s upcoming match with India in Manchester is a must-win affair. He added: ‘What we thought before the tournament started is coming true. England, Australia and India are the stand-out sides and then it’s a dog fight between the rest of them. ‘Pakistan need to win this game but India look a class act, as do England.’

This pathetic team doesn't deserve the luck of getting abandoned games and getting through because of them. Hopefully rain doesn't affect any more games for us.
