What's new

India vs South Africa | 3rd Test | Johannesburg | Jan 24-28, 2018 | Day 3 | Discussion Thread [#490]

I want this game to go till last minutes. Get India under 220 although this is itself a winning score.

220 is a competitive score everywhere. On the flattest of flat tracks: 220+ is hardly chased in the history of game.

SA's only chance is umpires now :yk

Thats not true at all ... he played well in the NZ Test series ... and dont forget his captaincy.

Scoring runs in a dead rubber on a fairly easy pitch is not something that I call played well.

Outstanding Knock by Rahane and now BK.

Kohli has been India's best batsmen by a country miles in this series.

Kohli might be having some regrets After 50+ partnership between Rahane and BK.

Happy to say though I and many others criticised Kohli for batting first but what a great decision from him, whoever came up with that decision needs to be more involved with Indian tactics and team selection.

Pitch has eased out considerably. Now even 300 is not looking safe

That's because the kookaburra is a really ****** ball that goes all soft by the 60th over, when we get the new ball this pitch is going to go back to being a replica moon surface.

Gotta say the pitch is awful for Test standards [albeit some will like the excitement] but India have put on a terrific total for SA to chase. Great effort by Kumar/Rahane and Kohli.

So we need to make maximum use of the new ball.. Fair enough

Rahane gone. South Africa's game to lose now. Chasing 225 should be a cakewalk for a champion side like SA against Indian trundlers.

Well they're not trundlers in this series.

This pitch has eased up a bit, Proteas might chase it down if De Kock clicks along with AB

India should win this one easily. Don't see South Africa surviving more than two sessions on this pitch. Not a great pitch but a brilliant match so far.

Its tough to chase but expecting a gun knock from AB or Amla and let see how far SA can go

Lol, was just about to say shami wasting the new ball with short pitch stuff and he picks a wicket.

Easy win for India...

On side note it seems South Africa is opening the batting with Imran Farhat and Taufiq Umar.

Sharp lift and Makram gone.

New ball is extremely difficult to negotiate on this pitch.

Oh no. South African rising star gone. Has been touted to be the next big thing after brilliant hundreds against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh.

If the pitch has gotten easier , we are screwed

It has eased a little bit. But new ball is very difficult to negotiate.

The real test for Indian bowlers will come when they have to bowl overs 30-80. Ball will get softer and batsmen will find it easy. You can see how the likes of Shami, BK and Rahane were able to hit the ball through the line.

He has batted really poorly in the series apart from that 94

India needs to make the first 20 overs count. After that batting will become slightly easier.

Get ABD and Faf in early if you want to win.

Looks like a great Saturday coming. I am too busy today😩

Pitch is disgraceful and not suitable for a test match.

i think Sa is trying to hang in there for few overs and once the ball gets softer it will be easy.

SA best chance to not lose many wickets in 25-30 overs and then try to chase it down before second new ball comes. It's easier to play with 30 over old ball. Every batsman needs to take their chances and hope to have some luck. It's a very difficult target, but not an impossible one.

Time to get Bumrah bowling into this pitch. He is going to be a handful, shami is just wasting it

Congrats to India for winning this match. A very gopd performance on a tough tough pitch.

Elgar is all at sea here, expecting to get hit every ball. Crouching low and then suddenly trying to move his hands to weather the bounce. Batsmen have had it so easy for a decade or more, it's a nice change to see the shoe on the other foot for once. The reason why people are so appalled is because it's so rare to see batsmen being hit these days, but it's by no means life threatening. It's test cricket at its most visceral form.

Swing and seam is okay. Those are classic test conditions. Not this joke where a full length ball hits the batsman's shoulders.

SA arent chasing this on this disgraceful pitch.

It can be done if AB or some one else gets going after 25-30 overs. one big partnership and match may not look so hopeless.

Wondering if the match is called off due to bad pitch would Kohli and Indian management cry that they have been robbed of a victory?

He's batting outside his crease with the balance on the front foot, it's appalling technique on a pitch where you know the ball is rearing up off a length. They will probably abandon this now. I hope Kohli and Shastri take the South Africans to the cleaners here.

Some useless Indian bats were at ease on the same wicket. SA DID NOT Have bowlers to make the ball talk, it is a bitter truth.

In fact India batted on a tougher condition WITHOUT the pitch rolled, shocking by SA great
