What's new

India win 1st ODI against Zimbabwe by 9 wickets (100 for Lokesh Rahul)

Rayudu always performs against Zimbabwe. That explains his averages. He was very poor vs NZ when we toured need to drop this guy. He is no longer an youngster. Didn't know biryani can get you so many chances.

Couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, there is hardly any match worth watching on the TV, these days (didn't follow IPL, much this year)

WI tri-series played on awful slow low inconsistent tracks is another bore-fest.

Watching Eng vs SL now, even this is pretty much one sided (not making for great television viewing).

The only consolation (a big one) will be if Rahul emerge as reliable opener for India. After Sachin, Ganguly, Sehwag & Gambhir we are really missing an opener who can play those solid innings & play through. That could take off a lot of pressure on Kohli (especially while batting first! Otherwise Kohli would be forced to become an opener in LOIs in near future! But we want Kohli to be in that No.3 spot to shield him from new ball/fresh pitch and ensure his magical innings continues, especially while chasing) Really we don't want two similar type of players (Rohit & Dhawan) opening for us, Rohit with the exception of some monstrous innings. Also Rahane should ideally bat at No.4 (He is no way an alternate to Dhawan)

I have been a long time critic of Rahul's temperament (used to see him as a very nervous and fidgety batsmen at the crease). He has proven me wrong. If not before, I believe in Rahul's maturity now.

Great 100!

He will fail in a few innings and you will go back to carting him around. :P

His quality was always there.

But is a nervous dude (like De Kock). Apart from that, he is a pretty awesome player.

Dunno if he will be any useful in clutch situations due to his nervousness but let's hope he develops.

My main problem with him was his catch dropping ability(?). He used to drop sitters after sitters in tests. I hope he improved on that front as well.

Good analysis! But we also need someone to play in those non-clutch situations (like batting first) play with clear mind & freely (and not get out due to poor defense - that's always a case with Rohit & Dhawan. If you get out under pressure or a really great delivery it is fine! Everyone can't handle clutch situations. That's why he is better of opening for India if he is in the team.)

Good century from Rahul.. hoping to see India bat first in the next match. We can get to see Nair, Pandey and Jadav bat too..

Rayudu.. please retire yaar

Of course.

He hasn't been given many chances, to be fair. Not everyone has been as lucky as Rohit Sharma.

One could argue that he has made the most of whatever little he has got.

Has Mr Nitini bought the carpet yet?

Seems carpets are in short supply in Harare at the moment :)))

Well done Rahul. Good peformance by India. Hopefully the rest of the series is more competitive than this game

If Dhoni has any shame left he should come back to India. Playing this series only to boost his falling captaincy record.

Remember that since Dec 2014, India have NOT won a ODI series under Dhoni's captaincy

Won Asia Cup, which is more important than any bilateral series. Asia cup is only next to World cup for subcontinent fans when it comes to ODIs.

Its probably the most boring sport event going on right now ,I'm more interested in knowing Saina Nehwal's final performance tmrw.

Sir Ji , he would not have retired from Test cricket if he was bothered about fixing his captaincy record .
werent you not complaining about Chalal not being picked some time back ?

Why is Dhoni playing these matches ?
Because we don't have anyone to captain this young side. The rest of the team is resting before WI test series. Instead of always blaming Dhoni for everything just think why the selectors chose him as the captain. The great selection committee which was supposed to undo the evil of Dhoni CSK Nexus. Be happy that Dhoni is mentoring these young players which they so desperately need at this level.
