India's Pace Bowling - Any hope?

Just stick with Umesh, Shami and Varun for however long you can. Don't bother trying trundlers.

What should be worrying are the spinners coming through.

This. This and this. Our WC attack should've been these 3 and ashwin.

India has tried and tested a number of medium/fast bowlers in the past years but they have had a similar story which we all know. Irfan's inswinging yorkers, Ishant's spell to Ponting, RP's 5 wicket haul at Lords, Sreesanth's spells in South Africa, Praveen's Windies and England tour; almost all have shown some talent at the start of their careers, only to end up in the lanes of mediocrity.
Do you see any hope looking at this crop of bowlers. Which bowler/s do you feel good about and believe can have a turnaround or have a good future (in case of newbies) from the following names:

1) Irfan Pathan
2) Praveen Kumar
3) Munaf Patel
4) L Balaji
5) Vinay Kumar
6) Abhimanyu Mithun
7) R P Singh
8) Ashish Nehra
9) Ajit Agarkar
10) Ashok Dinda

11) S Sreesanth
12) Varun Aaron
13) Ishant Sharma
14) Umesh Yadav

Left out Zaheer for obvious reasons.

From the list made in 2012, 11 have their career over and only the last three of them are still around. Yadav has got better.

Ishant needs to pitch it 1-1.5 yards fuller. Bowls way too short.

Still does.

Sreesanth has priorities elsewhere.

Its hard to accept when he's constantly 'injured' but would be up on the stage dancing to bollywood tunes for random events on TV.

He clearly has the cash..why not just focus on recuperating/injury rehab and try to make a comeback instead.

Who knew.

its not in the genes, they can be good bowlers but not exceptional
Even good one looks exceptional when the fielding unit don't drop a catch. And opposite is also true. Indian fielding has taken it to another level. In the WC, there was a stat shown at one point in the group stage, it was 16 taken out of 16 chances. That is why statistically they are so good as a unit. Wicket is the name of the game. Doesn't matter how you get it.

Isn't Sreesanth serving a life ban. for Fixing, plus some others are borderline retired or retired like Ajit Agarkar.

Actually, I dont think our bowling is that bad. Esp for One Day. For test, I reckon the bowling can improve

B Kumar - Decent in ODIs, useful in swinging conditions
M Shami - Prob our best bowler. Can also Reverse Swing
U Yadav - Seems to be bowling more accurate off late
V Aaron - Erratic, but definitely has potential
I Sharma - Has improved in tests, off late. Needs to be more consistent
M Sharma - Bowled well in the WC, but not some one who will last long

Up and coming
Sandeep Sharma - Like B Kumar, buy could me more effective

Umesh Yadav - Best combination of pace and swing. Will be good in test format if he improves his accuracy and cuts down on boundary balls.

B Kumar - A must in England. NZ and SA where the new ball swings. By the looks of it he has become a 130-135 K's bowler and bowls very well at the death in ODI's. Needs to make a comeback in ODI's.

Varun Aaron - Probably the fastest bowler in Indian cricket history. Genuinely quick but needs to improve his direction. If he gets his line right he can be really devastating.

I Sharma - Very inconsistent. Having played for 7 years, he should have been leading the Indian attack by now but hasn't done that. He did have a good 2014 in tests, hopefully he can improve and become the bowler we all hoped he would be in 2008.

M Shami - Our best ODI bowler but lacks consistency in tests. Bowls too many boundary balls in tests and releases the pressure. Need to work on his line and length. If he does then he will be India's best fast bowler with his pace.

Sandeep Sharma - Good young bowler, need to be given opportunities. BD tour would have been the best chance to induct him but the selectors have missed the chance.

Mohit Sharma - Decent ODI/T20 bowler. Don't see him playing in tests.

It is sad that we did not see too many young pace bowlers coming through in the IPL. There are some good spinners though like Chahal, Suchith, Negi etc..

Bhuvni will be back gunning when they allow 5 fielders outside the circle.

Aaron
Yadav

are the brightest prospects.

Also keeping close tabs on Shami Ahmed (KKR).

Vinay Kumar.

Yadav has everything needed to be part of the attack for ten years and a quality bowler.

Ishant is beyond hope, he is rubbish.

Havent seen the rest of the youngsters in action.

Pankaj Singh, Dinda and Yadav have looked excellent so far and Irfan seems to be getting his swing back, but still not back to his best.

Guys like Balaji, Nehra are done, they are not the future. Munaf needs to prove his fitness, he is Indian version of Ryan Harris, gets injured after every 2nd game. Not seen much of Aaron.

At present Yadav,Ishant,Aoron.... Munaf Patel should also be playing..he is much much better than people playing..even nehra is much better

Pathan is decent

if they work hard .. Sree, RP can comeback...age is on their side

And about Hope...Indian seemers and hope?

Sreesanth is only genuinely talented of the lot - but he simply lost his way as his priorities appear to be different. Apart from him, Yadav is the one likely to make a big impact and I hope he is properly looked after and does not go the way of other Indian pacers.

Umesh Yadav is a good prospect, others are ordinary.

Have you seen Aaron?

Probably Varun Aaron, if he doesn't work than all hope is lost.

Awana looked good yesterday.

Interesting to see some old posts. Lot of Varun Aaron overrating. Who is he?

1. Jasprit Bumrah
2. Mohammad Shami
3. Mohammad Siraj
4. Ishant Sharma
5. Umesh Yadav
6. Prasidh Krishna
7. Bhuvaneswar Kumar

Varun Aaron was the fastest pace bowler for India. Has played for India many year back and primarily puts in appearances as an IPL player now
