Mumbai Indians are the champions of IPL 2017

I'd this tournament still going on ?

No, we are just watching the highlights of 2008 IPL final match, being telecast on Sony now. Someone got excited seeing Pakistanis playing in it, so bumped this thread. Must be a Pakistani.

Things are getting interesting. We are in for an exciting finish. 47 of last 5. Mumbai, for the first time, sense they can win this match. Great bowling in the last few overs. But I feel either of Dhoni/Smith will win it for RPS.

I think Mumbai are favourites now. Pune should have never let Mumbai get to 130 after leaving them tottering at 75-7. Would be a shame if Pune lose it. They were ahead for like 35 overs of the match.

OMG!
is RPS really gonna mess up the chase. :)) :))

MI fans will have a field day today.

Edit: smith hits four.

Sometimes it feels like Malinga cares a lot for MI,a bit too extra at times. MI always has had similar core team,so players have gelled well.

Spectacular display of test cricket by the chasing team despite losing only 3 wickets

Smith playing intelligently. Man what a player he is! I remember him in a Super Over, needed 3 runs of the last ball; instead of trying to hit a four of that, he chose to just push the ball and ran two as he knew if there was a tie in the Super Over, his team would still win (courtesy of more boundaries). Such game awareness. Brilliant player.

If RPS wins, then smith has pulled off a Dhoni here. :msd
take game to the last over by slow batting and win in the end.

Hope you are watching the match and not scorecard, tricky pitch and total, Smith has done the right thing imo,MJ will be cakewalk in the last.

Brilliant comeback by Mumbai after being 75/7. Who could have thought they will be on the verge on winning the tourney.

Or maybe bowling is just too class supported by not so easy pitch to bat on?

I believe in T20s when you chase you need to bat quickly up front.

30 from 3 overs in the death is easy for chasing team always but not in a final.

Feeling sorry for Smith. He has been a terrific performer in India for the last 3 months.

Watched the match mate. Ofcourse difficult pitch but I think rps left too much for the death. In the first 16 overs they lost only 2 wickets. Chasing 130 that was a poor effort.

Chasing in final is not easy even if it's 100

Agree, but it was final so preesure played it's part. Rps clearly thought of playing it safe on tough pitch by keeping wickets in hand but they underestimated MI's death bowling big time. Malinga (on slpw pitch) and bumrah are very hard to put away.

You were right I guess, somehow thought it will be like the 1st IPL final.

This was a tailor pitch for Rahane,he started well and could finished it off,the only reason for him being in ODI is incase we get such pitches but he will still end up making no difference.

Why are people calling it a choke, this wasn't a great pitch for batsmen, barring 2 people who played 3 and 2 balls each no other batsman could go past strike rate of 125 tells you the story, pune messed up the chase by leaving 30 in 3 but in no way was this a choke.

Yes that's why they lost. In a final scoring runs in the death isn't easy especially against decent death bowlers.

I feel that the IPL goes on fkr way too long. 7 weeks should br cut to 4-5, like other T20 tourneys.

However, the final was a surprising result. Pune lost it and they only have themselves to blame. I would've sent Christian ahead of Tiwary since all they needed was a couple of big blows and they'd win. Just not good enough from Dhoni too.

It was. 1) 130 is a low total for any pitch. 2) they were 97/2, needed 33 off 24 balls. Going from there and not finishing off a game is a choke.

Can't say choke when bowlers were tremendous. Bumrah, Johnson and Malinga all bowled perfectly. Bowlers won the match today. Superb cricket.

Message from Russel Domingo to Pune : "welcome to the club of chokers"

SMith got them to the brink.

MSD had no idea what he was doing. Just wastes deliveries and gets out.

People blame Misbah not Afridi for T20 FINAL and 2011 semi final debacle.

The person who make us hope and let us down is always criticised more.

Incredible spirit and determination shown by the Mumbai bowlers, who stuck to their plans and stayed level-headed despite a couple of crucial drops that could´ve easily sealed the 129-run target.

A shocker by Pune! A case of massive miscalculation and passive batting kept tilting the game towards Mumbai´s favour over by over. Chasing 129 and still having eight-nine wickets in hand, you should never leave it yourself requiring big hits in the last overs to get there - especially in a tough game like a final. They, it seems, completely forgot that Mumbai will have Bumrah, Malinga and Johnson delivering the death overs. Any batsman would´ve struggled there, any.

Steve Smith, I´m afraid, deserves a lot of blame for that kind of batting. If he´d chosen that strategy to go with for himself, then finishing the match became his duty. With seven off five needed, they could´ve got closer first through singles and doubles and a boundary would´ve followed on its own.

As a side-note, salutes to Pietersen, the sole commentator who kept mentioning throughout how hard it´ll be for Pune to hit themselves out of trouble in the last overs because of big dimensions of the ground.

A good end by the way to an otherwise very disappointing IPL. None of the three play-off went close, and in the first round there were many amazingly one-sided games. IPL´s entertainment package has faded since 2012 or so. Having minnows like Delhi and Punjab never helps and it gets worse when a team like Bangalore or Gujarat have a season as horrible as this one.

A lot of people actually tune into watch Delhi because of their squad, Punjab though gets more crowd in Indore than their own ground so don't expect much from them, although Amla did entertain a little.

That´s true, Delhi´s young guns attracted a lot of viewing once they started to click, but unfortunately they started to do that a bit too late in the tournament, by when their chances were almost done. Even then, they blew hot and cold even after finding form. Still, that´s possibly the best I´ve seen from Delhi like in five years I think. That partnership between Pant and Samson goes down as one of the tournament´s history most delightful hour or so. Stunning display of almost literal fireworks.
