Why cannot IPL happen in September?
The most likely window is October-November but only on condition of WC T20 being postponed. But chances still look slim.

Why cannot IPL happen in September?
Some leagues have been postponed some cancelled. It all depends on the organizers.
Bcci is more interested in holding the Ipl thrn play Asia cup.
Bahut hi naazuk surat-e-haal hai.![]()
IPL is more likely to take place than being cancelled.
Its more likely when and not if.
I'm not sure how players are still continuing to talk about playing the IPL, albeit in empty stadiums when people are dying all around and the death rate still expected to go up in India.
Exposes the lack of empathy and greed of some people.

The IPL reminds of the multi level pyramid Amway scheme where everyone is only motivated to take part due to $$
David Warner ready to play IPL 2020 despite travel ban
Australia batsman David Warner is ready to fly to India to participate in the Indian Premier League, if the tournament happens this year, his manager has confirmed, amidst uncertainty surrounding the postponed league.
"If the IPL is on, David Warner’s planning on going,” James Erksine, Warner’s manager, told The Age. “If things change dramatically, which can happen in the space of an hour, the answer is you change your mind. It’s no different to everybody else.”

That’s fine. Warner should have no issue when ACB asks him to tour Pakistan also
The difference is one will give him around a million dollars, times like these have made cricketers realize they need to stack their money as quickly as they can
That’s fine. Warner should have no issue when ACB asks him to tour Pakistan also
Cricketers have short careers so it's somewhat understandable.
It's the boards are responsible for ensuring the safety of everyone around them.
Unfortunately both Warner and BCCI are prioritising the dollar signs which is pretty worrying.
Clouds of uncertainty continue to hover over the future of IPL 2020 with coronavirus continuing to spread its tentacles globally. The season that was to get underway from March 29, has been suspended till April 15 and looks the possibility of it getting underway next week is highly unlikely.
BCCI is reportedly considering various options including a truncated season beginning May or even pushing it to the latter half of 2020. However, should it be scrapped altogether, the Indian cricket board will reportedly lose a whopping Rs 2,000 crore in revenue.
To minimise the loss of such proportion, the board is likely to pass it onto the players meaning a pay-cut is in order.
“Obviously if the organisation takes a financial hit, the salaries of the employees get affected as well. The pay cuts are a possibility,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by the Mumbai Mirror on Wednesday.
According to the English daily, the BCCI allocates 26 per cent of its revenue to players – 13 per cent of it goes to international stars while the remaining is distributed among the domestic and junior cricketers.
The daily further reported that the board annually allocates Rs 150 crore for international players and Rs 70 crore to domestic cricketers. If the cricket board has to suffer revenue loss in absence of IPL, “international players’ income will exceed their entitled share in the board income.”
India captain Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah are among the top-earners who have A-plus contracts with the BCCI, drawing a salary of Rs 7 crore annually while head coach Ravi Shastri gets paid Rs 9 crore annually.
The players will suffer loss on two fronts – annual contracts plus pay cut in IPL deals with their respective franchisees even in case of a truncated season.

why would someone has objections when the players are ready to risk their lives for money or for whatever reasons and play IPL if it happens in around this pandemic times
If IPL happens every IPL fan plus Cricket fan will watch it irrespective of their views on IPL should be played or not in APRIL or MAY or during this pandemic
If BCCI is able to convince the number of players required to play IPL or players/coaches/support staff or people are ready to risk their lifes then IPL should happen, people should not have objections
The only thing evident or should be mandatory is that the fans should not be allowed to attend stadiums if it happens during pandemic
I am at a loss. An organization like the BCCI has been making gigantic revenues and profits for the last 15-20 years where they have enjoyed gigantic IPL tv rights, international tv rights broadcasting deals, sponsorship revenue and they cannot even stomach a year's loss without talk of cutting salaries? The PCB which has not had any international cricket in Pakistan for over a decade has not even talked about cutting any salaries yet.
IPL is more likely to take place than being cancelled.
Its more likely when and not if.
Have you never heard this 'haathi ke daant khaane ke aur dikhaane ke aur'?
I think the biggest joke is players like Kohli getting 7 crores annually whereas Ravi Shastri getting paid 9 crores annually.![]()
If they are ready to risk their lives for money then its their choice but why should groundsman, camerman, media teams and stadium staff risk their lives? Ask these greedy players to prepare pitches themselves and then play on it.![]()
No, he should be sacked without pay if he decides not to go Pakistan bit is happy to risk his life and play cricket during IPL during a global pandemicWell Warner should decide where he has issues and where he wants to go.
do u really think the groundsmen, cameraman, media team and stadium staff do not want IPL to happen, it is so easy for you and me to assume that
some people will get their salaries working from home or the government will fund their salaries and do u think Indian government or BCCI is capable of funding their half or some small part of salaries to them if IPL does not happen
Like players have their choice the groundsmen, cameraman, media team and stadium staff have the choice to work or not maybe they will have to choose between their job or to back out but none the less If everyone is willing to play then I think it does not justify others to make objections on others
everyone has choice and if IPL happens i am quite sure everyone will watch it on their tv
Are they so special? I am also a self employed individual. Is govt going to pay my bills and rent? I have also suffered losses and since everyone is sitting at home, less people will get work from others. Rules are same for everyone. It's unfortunate but they shouldn't be allowed to work.
My point is simple if cricket can be played in empty grounds and in under mandatory precautions of physical distancing and willingness of everyone involved then i have no objections
you and me are not going to be involved physically in IPL so why are you objecting just because you are under lock-down so everyone should be in lock down? or for safety of players and everyone involved in IPL?
It is hypocrisy if someone objects it who has no physical involvement in IPL and later watches IPL if it happens in this pandemic times
Pat Cummins backs IPL behind closed doors
Australia bowler Pat Cummins says he would support the Indian Premier League being played behind closed doors if it is not safe for fans to attend matches.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/52233074
Can't see IPL happening this year. Coronavirus is picking up pace in India right now.
I'm sure the $2m contract didn't have anything to do with it.
I'm sure the $2m contract didn't have anything to do with it.
Yes we get that part and sports is all about money anyway. You think Ronaldo plays for Juventus as a charity? All players in every sport plays for money.
Players get money for their skills.
Fans spend money and get entertained in return
That is the premise of any sport.
Why it is such a taboo if IPL pays money and players want to play in it?
Nothing wrong with Cummins wanting to come here for money. Afterall foreigners are the ones who get all types of benefits from IPL, we on the other hand struggle to find even a match finisher for our LOI teams from IPL.![]()

Yes great, only that Ronaldo is not playing right now for Juventus and that players around the world have happily taken pay cuts to help their respective clubs.
What a dumb thing to say. You are saying this as if I chose to remain in lockdown myself and now forcing them to not work as well. I am also losing money because our govt. asked us to sit at home and yeah in a fair world that is what everyone should do. There is nothing unfair about it. As I said people associated with IPL are not that special. They will have to suffer losses too. If they are allowed to work then the govt. should also let us work. Got it now?![]()
That is very stupid objection that you are making about no one should be allowed to work or everyone should be allowed to work
if there is possibility to follow the guidelines for protection from virus then no objections
if your stupid reason for objection is followed then no one would be able to work as it is impossible for every sector to work normally
Lol what? Do you even know the meaning of Lockdown? What guidelines are you talking about here? Govt. has actually shown that no matter how big or small you are you have to stay at home. If they allow IPL to happen then others should also be allowed to host events and functions. What's wrong in that? Or you want us to stay at home but want IPL to happen? Not gonna happen in a fair world.![]()
You just make me repeat over and over again may be you have a problem of understanding or no matter what you don't want anything positive to happen in such difficult times because you had losses so others should also have some losses and should face this difficult times
It would be idiotic to explain myself again and again so this is the last time i will explain you
I made it very clear that if IPL can be played in a way that it does not affects others getting virus then i have no objections but your stupid reason is everyone should be in lock-down and IPL should not happen because you cant work and so others should not work too it is unfair and all, that is stupidity
You can cry all you want but in present circumstances IPL and a random shop near my house have the same aukaat. Both can't be open for business currently. I am not the only one sitting at home. Everyone will call it unfair if their business is shut but IPL is happening under lockdown lol. Hopefully you got the point now if not carry on with your useless rant.![]()
The scale of frustration builds in a human in a time of lock down period and some looks at it in a positive way and some in negative way as you are seeing
May be Lock-down has made you such negative and frustrated that you write words like i cry and i rant , these are tough times and I can understand it happens with people
I see things in a positive way and I would want that not only IPL but any cricket to make an effort to resume it if possible even in these pandemic times
OK if it is not possible fine unless efforts are made or it is tried or discussed atleast to resume the cricket in any safe possible way
It's good that you are taking it in a positive way but try and understand that they are only going to allow IPL to happen if everything becomes normal. When do you want IPL to happen anyway?
Will the ICC allow the BCCI to forgo FTP and Billateral commitments for the IPL? If it does then it will be the most blatant piece of evidence that the BCCI considers the ICC to be even worse than toilet paper. A domestic league cannot take precedence over international cricket.
Also the likes of the BCCI, ECB, Cricket Australia have been earning huge sums of money for the last 20 years, they should have had solid coffers to be able to withstand one years worth of loss. WTH do these boards do with all the money they make? Do they not save anything for a rainy day?
Yes we get that part and sports is all about money anyway. You think Ronaldo plays for Juventus as a charity? All players in every sport plays for money.

Problem is the I in IPL.
No the real problem is the E(Ego) in IPL which is silent. People are dying on roads, kids are dying and the only thing people like you care about is hosting IPL to show off here.
The only silver lining from the virus situation is that this Tontee Tontee trash is kept out from our TV screens.
The real problem is J (Jealousy) that the best cricket league belongs to India and foreign players are eager to play in it even at the time of global epidemic.
No one is asking to have the IPL right now...so cut these rhetoric of kids dying on roads etc. We (fans) and players like Pat Cummins are proposing to organize IPL as soon as situation is in control and lock down is removed, even if its behind closed doors. Not having IPL for a year meaning huge financial loss for everyone - players, boards, organizers, groundsman, support staff etc.
As soon as situation is all right to organize a cricket tournament in India, IPL will be given 1st priority by BCCI over any bilateral internationals/Asia cups etc because lots of monetary stakes depends on it.
Unless the situation turns total south and lockdown couldnt be removed for complete year, we will have an IPL this year. Take it from me![]()
Problem is that a certain section of our padosis cannot digest Indias success. It has been further exacerbated by the fact that most top teams and players dont play their league or tour their country. Also that their players dont play in IPL.
Thats why the heart burn. You will see them name calling players or talk about humanity abd everything in between. At the end of the day bcci will prioritize ipl over things like Asia cup or a short international series. Whining here wont stop it.
Meanwhile enjoy how they are running around making brave claims.
The 13th edition of Indian Premier League was set to begin on March 29 before the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic forced the BCCI officials to posptone the start of tournament to April 15. Later, with the number of cases rising in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi imposed a nationwide lockdown till April 15, which in all likelihood, is expected to extend further. The BCCI President Sourav Ganguly was questioned on holding IPL this year, and he said that it seems difficult to hold the tournament as of now.
Speaking to The New Indian Express, Ganguly said: “We keep monitoring developments. At the present moment, we can’t say anything. And what is there to say anyway? Airports are shut, people are stuck at home, offices are locked down, nobody can go anywhere. And it seems this is how it’s going to be till the middle of May.”
He further added that nothing is working in favour of any kind of sport at the moment. “Where will you get players from, where do players travel. It’s just simple common sense that at the moment, nothing is in favour of any kind of sport anywhere in the world, forget IPL,” he said.
The former India skipper added that he might make things clear on Monday after discussing with office-bearers of BCCI.
“I will be able to give an update on that on Monday after speaking to the other office-bearers (of BCCI). But practically speaking, when life has come to a standstill everywhere in the world, where does sport have a future in this,” he said.

Good on Azhar. He is basically saying the same thing I said in my previous post. A year of no IPL meaning heavy financial loss for all concerned. BCCI already sufferered loss after SA series got cut short due to covid19. So its imperative to organize IPL whenever its fit albeit by reducing some internationals. Also considering its a T20 WC year, a season of IPL will do greater good for the players.
Whenever cricket is back, BCCI should only focus on the below for this year:
IPL (Jun - Jul)
Free slot in August - Organize some short money making series.
Asia Cup (Sept)
T20 WC (Oct)
Tour down under in Australia (Nov onwards)
Win win for everyone.
Where have BCCI said this? Kindly share the link.Asia cup is the least of BCCIs priority.
While I agree that these garbage leagues are not on TV but there is another set of random dafts that you see everywhere now... Self styled test cricket fans who despise IPL but suck up on other T20 leagues
Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell believes a rescheduled IPL can be held behind closed doors but it will be difficult to justify conducting the upcoming T20 World Cup without fans cheering from the stands.
Both the 13th IPL and T20 World Cup are uncertain at the moment with the worsening COVID-19 pandemic, which has killed more than one lakh people globally.
One of the options for BCCI is to host the IPL in the October-November window if the ICC decides to postpone the T20 World Cup (October 18-November 15). There has also been talks of conducting the tournaments behind closed doors.
One of the stalwarts of T20 cricket, Maxwell feels if crowds weren’t possible for either of the two events, the IPL would be a better option to go ahead.
”... it’s going to be hard for us to have crowds. I think if IPL goes ahead they can probably survive without any crowds, but I can’t see the T20 World Cup surviving without any people there,” Maxwell told ABC Grandstand.
“It’s going to be hard for us to justify having a World Cup when we can’t get people into the grounds. So I can’t see it happening in the near future. We’ve got to take care of everyone’s health and wellbeing.”
IPL, which was deferred till April 14, is headed towards an indefinite postponement as India braced for a lockdown extension to contain the rapidly-spreading coronavirus.
The T20 World Cup, on the other hand, is scheduled to be held Down Under in October-November but it all depends on how the coronavirus is contained by Australia and other nations.
The deadly disease has brought all sports activities, including cricket, to a halt across the globe.
These foreigners might as well just come out and say "we don't care if the IPL takes place or not, please just give us our money". They would care less about the IPL if they weren't contractually obligated to play in order to earn that money
I have said it before - IPL is their only chance to make a big amount of money and the ones who have contract this time dont know if they will get an opportunity next time - I dont know anyone who would not say what they are saying given in the same situation.
These players have been making big money before as well, they should have saved for a rainy day

So Maxwell feels the IPL can be played behind closed doors but the WC T20 can't.![]()
I'm sure the small matter of $$ didn't influence his thinking.
Problem is these guys must think we're all ******* or something by saying all this stuff. They should just be honest and say they want the IPL to commence because of their big payday.
Everybody and their dog knows why they want to come so all the other stuff they're coming out with is really farcical.
lol, im sure Star Sports would like to milk the cash cow with the India v Pakistan match in these unprecedented circumstances.
But I guess you can make up whatever you like on this forum
They have a bigger cash cow called IPL, which is bigger than even icc events, considering the amount Star sports paid for them.
So keep living in the mumbo jumbo indo pak match, while the world has gone far ahead.
And fyi, Bcci isnt obligated to Star sports or anyone to play in Asia cup.
The other things they say sounds better and also fro marketing purpose - Have you ever gone into a job interview and said I want this job because the money is better and thats it?
