Ireland vs Pakistan | Only Test | Dublin | May 11-15, 2018 | Day 2 | Match Thread

I know we all wanted to bowl but this is the best practice for the England tests.
And I also think this game could be even now as Ireland have more first class experience and experience of early May conditions. That levels up the quality difference especially now they have won the toss.
A good test now
 
Such a slow pitch. Pakistan batting first could be a blessing in disguise. The sun is out and Pakistan should make merry here. Just need to be patient till lunch.
 
I love Azhar but without looking at the scorecards you can't tell if he's set or just come in. With the top batsmen, you can tell when they are set. He shouldn't be the leader of our batting line up. Hopefully Babar or Haris take this role. They can bat time but also bat at a modern day pace.

Azhar Ali probably in the worst form of his career.

Pak has issues with only 3/4 genuine bats in the team. Just like I predicted after they announced this risky move.
 
After playing for so long Azhar still a tailender just like Shafiq!!!!

Expecting a Babar-Haris repair job. Centuries for both, maybe a 200 for Babar who knows :)
 
That's the problem with these two opening - consume a lot of deliveries but get out after taking the scoreboard nowhere.
 
This is what happens when you have no intent to score. Once you lose a wicket, the pressure increases and your behind the game.

Blocking the ball doesn't make you a great batsmen. The great test batsmen can bat time and score at a good rate. If Azhar is our best test batsmen it shows how rubbish we are in tests. Agree with @ Mamoon on that.

That’s why you need Fakhar Zaman to open the innings. He will allow Azhar to settle.
 
Batting still can't play positively

Still can't run between the wickets

Will probably drop 2-3 catches in the slips

Asad nearly runs out Haris. Pak should just ride out the next 15-20 mins. Ireland literally have just 2 pacers and they're only useful with the new ball. Rest all are cannon fodder allrounders
 
Azhar and Asad are the worst investment Pakistan made. These two are not capeable of leading Pakistan.
 
Shafiq issues seem to be mental. If he believed in himself more, he would have had a more successful career.

This is accurate. Kane is good but untested. Kevin O Brien not suied for 4 day stuff IMO, Thompson is a garbage bowler.
 
Haris main issue seems to be his fitness. Looks good versus spin and pace. In test cricket you need to be able to bat long periods. I hope he can find a way to improve his fitness.
 
While the notion that Haris is the best player of swing and seam in Asia is nonsense, he certainly has the best credentials within the Pakistan squad to bat at number 3. He is the best batsman in the team with the right mixture of attack and defense, and is relatively more comfortable against pace compared to the other batsmen.

I would prefer Babar at 4 and Shafiq at 5 though.
 
As much as I am a Pakistani fan, it's hard not to cheer for Ireland too. Would be great for cricket if Ireland manage to pull off a win, or even a draw.

Reminds me of Anwar Ali of the young age swinging the ball. Similar in looks as well
 
Shafiq has a good shot range. He should believe in himself more. He looks better when batting with intent.

Do you think that Fakhar can play a role in this test team by maybe batting at 6?
 
We need a revamp in our test team. We are not going anywhere carry Azhar, Shafiq, Babar, Amir....
 
Is this Pakistan’s idea of a tutorial of what not to do in test cricket for Ireland or something?
 
Pakistan haven't been great, but let's not ignore the fact that Ireland have bowled well and have been successful at putting pressure on the batsman. Haven't really given many oppurtunities to score.

True and there is lots of movement on offer. 220+ would be a good score here if movement doesn’t subside
 
Pakistan test team is in shambles

Really feeling Misbah-ul-Haq/younus absence now
 
Haris is atleast quick to get forward to half volleys. Asad still has all his weight hanging back worrying about outside edge.
Really has to fix the mentality
