We’ve had lots of debate on who has the best cover drive in cricket, but the pull shot is also one of the most pleasing shots on the eye, especially when it is smoked for 6!

It is said that in this era, Rohit Sharma plays the best pull shot in world cricket. It’s a fair assessment, without a doubt he is a wonderful player of this shot. However, I feel Jason Roy is an underrated yet master player of this shot too. When he connects, boy is it a wonderful sight! The kind of shot that gets the adrenaline pumping!

Who do you guys feel is the King of the Pull shot in the modern era if not one of these two?

Nobody comes close to Rohit pull or hook. He can hit through variety of areas. Having said that most of the current Indians are expert pullers. Kohli, Gill, Rahul. For the record since 2015, Rohit has pulled 116 balls for sixes.

Rohit Sharma's got the gift of timing so he makes it look so effortless. He never looks like he's gonna get out. Jason Roy has got insane ball striking ability, so his pulls are also a joy to watch.

Personally, I prefer Rohit's pull shot. It would be nice to see a Pakistani batsman pull like him.

Jason Roy is a cross batted slogger. Marsh Bros (Shaun & Mitch) having grown up in Western Australia they have authoritative pull shots. Mitch is the one who comes somewhat close to Rohit still not as decisive as Rohit.

Marsh plays most of the shots with a stiff back so I don't think a player can execute better pull shots with a static back. player has to go for a full swing to generate momentum which Rohit and Roy do but not Marsh.

Even rahane pulling Johnson on that mcg pitch where English batsmen got scarred mentally forever

No disrespect to anyone else but Rohit is the best player of pull and hook shot for me. He never looks hurried, and sends the ball miles.

Rohit wins this race all the way. He looks in total control when he executes the pull shot. He never looked afraid of pulling or hooking the ball. Roy's pull shot is also flawless but rohit will be my pick any day.

Rohit is also amazing because he looks the unlikeliest - not long levered, nor the fittest or strongest, in fact the opposite - pudgy.

And yet he looks the most effortless and like he has the most time and hits big as well

Another batsman not mentioned is KL. Probably next best to Rohit. On his day, makes Rohit looks pedestrian.

Rohit Sharma.

de Villiers is also a top class player vs genuine pace and pull shot master. Ponting obviously the best of all.

This is from 2020. Between 2020 and 2024 he hit a lot more sixes.

This. Only Mitchell Marsh can play the pull/hook anywhere near as well or as consistently as Rohit currently.

There was a pull shot in the Ashes where
he wrecked a 150 kph ball by Mark Wood with ridiculous contempt.

I'd say Rohit is more consistently effective with that shot but Marsh can pull faster/bouncier deliveries as well though he's not as consistent.

Roy could not buy a run when he played Test cricket and he has better footwork?
On flat pitch he is a decent cross batted slogger against spin. He has hit 81 sixes in ODIs. 47 came against spinners. 34 against seamers. On the contrary Rohit 108 sixes against spinners 215 against seamers.

Both are from different leagues of players, but yes, Jason Roy has better footwork than Rohit Sharma.
i think its not about feet movement its more about better weight transfer while playing a pull shot which Rohit does better that's the reason why he play this short effortlessly.

yesterday on the Pavilion show, it was fascinating to listen to Misbah ul Haq, Mohammad Hafeez and Azhar Ali of all people to point out technical flaws in Jason Roy’s footwork….

My God! J Roy is twice the white ball batsman if you put all 3 of these players into one. He’s a modern white ball great. How are these types of players not ashamed to nit pick on guys like Roy but have nothing to say about Rizwan or Shan Masood?

Thats a non sensical argument.

Roy has only played 116 ODIs compared to sharma s 262 games.

That is the most sensible argument lol You make a random claim he is better puller. HEck Marsh > Roy. Infact KL Rahul/Gill/Kohli/Rahane better pullers. Rahane destroyed Mitchell Johnson's short pitch tactics right after his Ashes bullying with pull shots. Roy is a slogger. ON a flat pitch he will connect a few. Where is your Jason Roy in this list?

First of all its not random that's the title of the thread man. Read.

Its about personal preference and I went with Roy.

Am I not entitled to my opinion???.

Rohit Sharma. To play the pull shot with that pot belly gives me hope that one day I could play that shot well with my timber.

No one can play pull shot better than Rohit sharma.

Mitchell Marsh also the one who executes this shot quite effectively.
