Man City demonstrate power

The hosts played with the pressure off after the title was secured and manager Guardiola was able to give members of his shadow squad game time on an occasion where most fans were simply waiting for the final whistle to hail their heroes.

Guardiola's selection gave an illustration of the vast resources of talent he has at his disposal with simply a glance at City's substitutes bench.

Haaland, Kevin de Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, John Stones, Jack Grealish, Rodri, Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias and goalkeeper Ederson were able to sit this one out.

Has there ever been a more talented bench than that one?

They are all likely to be restored when those two big finals come around but it was a demonstration, if indeed it were needed, of what other teams must overcome if they are to loosen the stranglehold City have domestically and which now gives them the chance of their first Champions League.

Goalscorer Alvarez may have worked in Haaland's shadow for much of the season but what an acquisition he has been and what a season he has had, with the chance to add the Treble to his World Cup win with Argentina.

The Premier League is Manchester City's once more - now it is on to Wembley and Istanbul.

City has such a quality squad that it's the real galactico, only Milan of mid 90s come close to them, not the Real Madrid of any era neither Barcelona nor Man Utd
The best thing about this city group is the versatility they can shape in multi formations without any hiccup. Players ladter in hybrid positioning have made life hell for their competitiors

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says he wants the 115 Premier League financial charges against the club to be dealt with "as soon as possible".

Bayern Munich are in talks to sign Manchester City defender Kyle Walker according to Sky in Germany

Mateo Kovacic is close to joining Manchester City after they agreed a deal with Chelsea worth up to £30m.

The Croatia midfielder, 29, is set to join the Premier League champions for an initial fee of £25m, with £5m in potential add-ons.

Chelsea are continuing to sell players as they look to trim their large squad for new manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Fellow midfielder N'Golo Kante is also on his way out, having agreed to join Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia.

Kovacic joined Chelsea from Real Madrid 2019, initially on loan, before signing a five-year permanent contract.

The arrival of Kovacic will throw further doubt on Ilkay Gundogan's Manchester City future, with the Germany midfielder's contract about to expire.

Kovacic made 37 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea last season in a turbulent campaign which saw the Blues go through three managers before finishing 12th in the Premier League.

He was part of the Chelsea side who won the Champions League in 2021, coming on as a late substitute in the 1-0 final win over City.

At international level, Kovacic has made 95 appearances for Croatia, playing every game as they finished third at the 2022 World Cup.

Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan will join Barcelona on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of this month.

Gundogan, 32, was offered a new contact by City but is thought to have negotiated a more lucrative three-year deal with the Spanish champions.

City boss Pep Guardiola was keen to keep Gundogan, who was integral to the club winning the Treble this season.
The Germany midfielder played 51 games in 2022-23, scoring 11 goals.

Gundogan gone, possibly Bernardo Silva too.

That's 2 big players to replace for City.

It's going to be an interesting few weeks as to who they sign.

Manchester City have tabled a bid of 90m euros (£77m) for RB Leipzig's Josko Gvardiol, 21, with the Croatia defender described as Pep Guardiola's "dream player". (Sky Sport Germany)

Manchester City are working to sign RB Leipzig's Josko Gvardiol - but the German club want at least 100m euros (£85.77m) for the Croatia defender.

Manchester City have made a bid worth £90m for West Ham United captain Declan Rice.

Manchester City have signed Croatia midfielder Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea for an initial £25m.

The deal for the 29-year-old is also worth a possible £5m in add-ons and he has signed a four-year contract.

Kovacic is City's first signing of the summer after they won the Treble of Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup titles last season.

"This is a brilliant move for me, and I cannot wait to get started with City," said Kovacic.

His arrival follows the club announcing Ilkay Gundogan's free transfer to Barcelona, while City have had a £90m bid - thought to have included an £80m initial payment - for England midfielder Declan Rice rejected by West Ham.

Kovacic added: "Anyone who has watched this team under [manager] Pep [Guardiola] knows how good they are - for me, they are the best in the world. The trophies they have won are clear for all to see, but they are also the best footballing side out there.

"To be joining this squad really is a dream for any footballer. I still have plenty of learning and developing to do, and I know under Pep's management I can become a better player, which is really exciting for me.

"My plan now is to rest for a few weeks before coming back to Manchester to prepare for the new season. I want to help this club stay at the top and win more trophies."

Kovacic joined Chelsea from Real Madrid in August 2018, initially on loan, before signing a five-year deal.

He made 37 appearances for the club in a turbulent campaign last season as they finished 12th in the top flight.

Kovacic was part of the Chelsea side who won the Champions League in 2021, coming on as a late substitute in the 1-0 final win over City.

At international level, Kovacic has made 95 appearances for Croatia, playing every game as they finished third at the 2022 World Cup.

"It was a very simple decision to bring him to City because he has the tactical and technical qualities we are looking for in a midfielder," said City director of football Txiki Begiristain.

"He is someone we have monitored for a very long time and always we were impressed whenever we watched him."
