Manchester United | 2023/24 Season

Reports

Manchester United want to sign England striker Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa as the 28-year-old fits the profile of player they are looking to recruit.

Manchester United are vying with Newcastle to sign Fulham central defender Tosin Adarabioyo.

The 26-year-old is a free agent on 30 June, having opted against extending his contract at Craven Cottage.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is a known admirer of the former Manchester City youth player and the Magpies were thought to be close to completing a deal to sign him.

However, it is understood United have not ended their interest in the Englishman.

The Old Trafford club are in a tight financial position this summer as they try to comply with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability regulations.

And given central defence is one of the areas they are aiming to strengthen, the prospect of signing a player for Adarabioyo's quality without having to pay a transfer fee holds particular appeal.

Spurs, Liverpool and Italian side AC Milan have also been rumoured to be interested in the former England youth international.

Manchester United staff reportedly given week to resign in Sir Jim Ratcliffe's WFH crackdown

Manchester United staff have reportedly been given a week to decide whether to resign under Sir Jim Ratcliffe's plans to end working from home.

The club's non-football staff were invited to take redundancy by next Wednesday in an email sent on Tuesday, The Daily Telegraph reports.

Sir Jim has taken over the day-to-day running of the club and is making it compulsory for staff to work from their offices in Manchester or London from 1 June, the paper says.

Staff who do not wish to do so can quit and are being offered early payment of an annual bonus, it added.

A United spokesman told The Daily Telegraph the move "isn't a voluntary redundancy programme".

They added: "The club recognises that not everyone wants to work from the office full-time so has provided options for staff who don't wish to return to the office to step away now."

How Man Utd 'laughing stock' Rangnick restored reputation with Austria

When Ralf Rangnick parted ways with Manchester United a little over two years ago, his stock could hardly have been lower.

The 65-year-old, who was installed as interim manager, had been unable to bring the required results and performances at Old Trafford, while he also seemed to lack the respect of some of his players - with Cristiano Ronaldo saying he never saw him as a boss., external

But in Berlin on Tuesday, his Austria side produced a performance and result against the Netherlands that not just showed why Rangnick earned the title the 'Godfather of the Gegenpress', but also proved his current group of players are right behind him.

"When we have the ball we have someone on the bench who has a very good input," said captain Marcel Sabitzer, who scored the goal to secure the 3-2 win against the Dutch that ensured Austria finished top of a group that also contained France.

The midfielder added: "It feels very good to play in this team and I am really enjoying every day with this team and the staff. I would like to stay here a bit longer."

Man Utd increase offer for Everton's Branthwaite

Manchester United have increased their offer for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.

The Toffees rejected a £35m bid from United for the England international last month.

It is understood the revised offer is about £45m, with the possibility of additional payments should set targets be met.

However, BBC Sport has been told that figure still does not match Everton’s valuation.

Branthwaite has impressed as a left-sided central defender at Goodison Park, helping the Merseyside club avoid relegation last season despite two points deductions for breaching rules limiting financial losses.

United are keen to strengthen their options in central defence and have been in negotiations over Bayern Munich's Matthijs de Ligt, who is playing for the Netherlands at Euro 2024.

Raphael Varane has left the club and there has still been no confirmation of an agreement between the club and veteran Northern Ireland centre-back Jonny Evans over a new one-year deal.

In addition, there are doubts over the future of Sweden international Victor Lindelof, who reported to Carrington for the first day of pre-season training on Monday.

Sancho trains with Man Utd after Ten Hag meeting

Jadon Sancho has returned to training with Manchester United following a meeting with manager Erik ten Hag.

The English winger, 24, fell out with Ten Hag last season and was forced to train away from the first team before rejoining former club Borussia Dortmund on loan in January.

Sancho impressed at Dortmund and his future has been the subject of speculation this summer, but he returned to United on Wednesday for testing before training with his team-mates the following day.

Meanwhile, veteran defender Jonny Evans has signed a new one-year deal with the club.

The 36-year-old Northern Irishman made 30 appearances for United last season after rejoining the club on a one-year deal from Leicester City.
