Manchester United: 2025/2026 Season

I rate Maresca. I think he did a really good job at Chelsea, despite the poor ownership. Maresca does seem like he has his heart set on replacing Pep at City, so I don't think we can get him.
Maresca would be a poor choice as Pep replacement. His squad management at Chelsea wasn't thar great

Those statements he made he was begging to be sacked. In fact I think he wanted to be sacked first season too. His statements even first season reminded me of when conte wanted the sack.

I don’t think he was even desperate to win games in his first season. Content to lose. Europa league he even lost partly to stubbornness.

I think there were signs early on he realised he made a mistake coming to United. But walking away would make him look bad, clubs won’t want him if they think he’ll just give up.

He was an exciting young manager and his reputation was being destroyed. This is the best case scenario for him, sacked and not a terrible position in the league. And for comments against board rather than incompetence.

The next manager should be someone who is already managing in the Premier League.

My first choice would be Unai Emery.

If we can't get Emery, then I wouldn't mind Howe, Silva, Iraola, etc. But Emery would be the absolute top choice.

No more of appointing managers from crappy foreign leagues like the Dutch or the Portuguese league.
Agree with this. It should have been proven managers from strong leagues. Until a solid foundation is built.

It has always been unproven young managers in foreign leagues. Or managers out of their prime like Mourinho and Van Gaal who don’t play modern football. Though I still think Mourinho could work at a very defensive club but United isn’t that.

Emery would have been great but he won’t go now. Pochettino in the past they made a mistake going for ten hag instead. Conte, Tuchel could have been got.

And these are all the ones in very sure could have been got, who gave signals. Who knows guys like flick, luis enrique, Nagelsmann, etc might have been able to be persuaded too.

I think the board always went with the fans decision. Who naturally opted for the more exciting though unproven option.

You can always go for an option like Amorim after you’ve had someone else in to clear out the rot and revolutionize the club. You don’t take that risk early on.

If I was abetting man I would put my money on Oliver Glasner being the next ManU Maager.

I agree.

For a team like Man United that has a very poor structure, you need managers who are proven to get results in the Premier League, such as Emery. Managers like Amorim or Ten Hag are managers you get when you have a great structure in place.

If I was abetting man I would put my money on Oliver Glasner being the next ManU Maager.
He’s first favourite. And next is fletcher lol. Glasner would probably be alright, but this is a guy who is getting mid table with Crystal Palace. I guess they don’t have the resources so it’s a decent position. But it’s hardly knocking the door down.

It’d be laughable if Maresca joined after his breakdown with Chelsea lol. It would be the exact same issues for him. And man united hiring someone who went against the board, whilst sacking the last guy who went against the board. Too much irony.

It’s a terrible time to get a new manager. All the easy obtainable quality managers are now locked down. Tuchel, Pochetinno and Nagelsmann are all involved in international football now. With the World Cup so soon they can’t just leave their job now.

Emery is doing too well with Aston Villa. Conte won’t leave Napoli for this.

Man United have to go for Xavi. I think he’s the only realistic big name that they can get right now. Did incredible things with Barcelona.

I don't want Glasner. He plays 3 at the back, and although he has proven himself to be a significantly better manager than Amorim, I just don't want Man United to hire another manager who plays that system.

I actually wouldn't mind Xavi. I love a bit of tiki-taka football at Man United. And Xavi will command the respect of the players and will be able to attract players to come to Man United.

Hansi Flick is a upgrade on Xavi. Theres talk he will leave end of the season.

Manchester United speaking to several former players about being interim head coach

Manchester United have been in talks with several former players to take on the role of interim head coach, as the club seeks a manager to lead the team until the end of the season following Ruben Amorim's departure.

Michael Carrick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have been informally approached about the possibility of managing the team, along with the current caretaker Darren Fletcher.

It's expected that other candidates will also be contacted before any decision is taken.

Ruben Amorim was dismissed on Monday after 14 disappointing months, which came to a bitter end following Friday's heated meeting with director of football Jason Wilcox.

Under-18s boss and former midfielder Fletcher has been temporarily promoted to interim head coach for Wednesday's Premier League trip to Burnley.

Fletcher is expected to stay in charge for Sunday's FA Cup third-round match against Brighton while United weigh their options.

"It's surreal," said Fletcher, who made 342 appearances for the Red Devils and has worked in a variety of different roles for them since 2020.

"I don't even think it's in my wildest dreams that that was something that could potentially happen."

Fletcher said leading the team was "an amazing honour", even though "not in the circumstances I expected it to happen".

"But I've got a job to do, and I've got to lead the team tomorrow, and think of the great honour and pride in doing that."

On Tuesday, the club also spoke to former boss and treble hero Ole Gunnar Solskjær, who was named as Jose Mourinho's temporary replacement in December 2018 and got the full-time post in March 2019.

Solskjaer led Man Utd to second place in the Premier League in 2020-21 and a Europa League final defeat to Villarreal before being sacked in November 2021.

Since leaving Old Trafford, he has only managed Turkish club Besiktas.

Carrick, who had been part of Solskjaer's coaching team, briefly served as caretaker manager before departing the club.

The former United midfielder later managed Championship side Middlesbrough from October 2022 until last June.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, who managed United between Erik ten Hag's departure and Amorim's arrival in November 2024, is also reportedly being considered.

Another club legend, he was dismissed by Leicester towards the end of last season.

Sky Sports is reporting that the club haven't ruled out the possibility of making a substantive appointment, if they decide the right coach is available.

It's thought club's bosses would like to have someone in place before the Manchester derby on 17 January.

I wouldn't mind Flick, either.

I would be extremely happy if we got any of the following managers:

1) Flick
2) Emery
3) Enrique
4) Xavi

Enrique would be the Gold standard. Theres a excellent chance hecwill leave PSG this summer.

What do you think of Ancelotti. His experience will be invaluable for us at the moment.

Yes. As a interim. Joke of a appointment. He was sacked 2 years back, with the fans calling for his dismissal. We are run so poorly. Inios with Glazers, i wouldn’t wish on anyone

Its clearly a damage control exercise. Inios and Glazers are worried about protests now after Rubins comments. They know Ole is a company man, he wont say a peep and plod on.

Ancelotti would be great as well, but won't be a long-term appointment. However, most managers don't last that long at a club in the modern era, so that is irrelevant.

Carrick and Solskjaer frontrunners for caretaker role

Michael Carrick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have emerged as the frontrunners to become Manchester United's caretaker manager until the end of the season.

The former players have both previously managed United - very briefly as caretaker in Carrick's case - and are set for face-to-face talks with the club's leadership.

It is not out of the question the pair could also work together because Carrick was a significant part of Solskjaer's coaching team when he replaced Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford in 2018.

Darren Fletcher, United's current under-18s coach, who has also been spoken to about the job, will continue as interim manager until a caretaker is appointed.

Former United captain and pundit Gary Neville said the club were on familiar ground appointing a former player.

He told Sky Sports: "It is almost like a cycle, like a movie we have all seen before and Groundhog Day.

"What I do think is Ole is someone who absolutely loves the club, he knows the job, he has been in the job.

"The other names that have been mentioned - Michael Carrick, Ruud van Nistelrooy - these are really fantastic people.

"I trained with those guys for a lot of years. They love the club intensely, they get the club, but still they are going to come under a lot of pressure in this next four or five months if results don't go their way and they are going to have to be ready for that.

"Whoever is going to get it out of those three who are being mentioned, I wish them all the best because it is a tough role."

Former midfielder Fletcher takes charge of his first match on Wednesday, when United visit Burnley (20:15 GMT) in the Premier League, after which the recruitment process will resume.

Van Nistelrooy, the ex-United striker, is also believed to be a contender.

Amorim was sacked on Monday after a turbulent 14 months in charge.

United plan on naming a permanent successor for Amorim in the summer.

One player has told BBC Sport they felt it was possible the role could be shared by more than one of the contenders, or that Fletcher could even stay in the job until the end of the season if the next two matches are positive.

Solskjaer initially took charge in a similar fashion when United sacked Mourinho in 2018, and he subsequently became the full-time manager for three years before he was sacked in November 2021.

Carrick then had a three-game stint as temporary boss after Solskjaer's dismissal before he left the club in December 2021.

The former England midfielder has been out of work since he was sacked by Championship club Middlesbrough last June after after two and a half years in charge.

Solskjaer was sacked by Turkish club Besiktas in August.

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner and former Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi - now at Marseille - are understood to be early contenders for the full-time job.

Glasner, who won the FA Cup with the Eagles last season, was asked about the link during his news conference on Tuesday.

He said: "I am Crystal Palace manager and it makes no sense for you to ask me any more questions about it."

I remember when the Glazers were looking to sell 2-3 years back, the choice was between Ineos and the Qatari ownership.

All the top reds were going on about how they don't want Qatar's oil money, and they were going on about the human rights nonsense. Well, I hope those Mfers are happy with Jim The R*t. Had we got the Qatari ownership, we would have been in a significantly better position right now. Instead, we are stuck with both the Glazers and Ineos, who are just as bad as each other.

We are in January, and the season is already over.

They sacked dinner ladies to save money but are paying millions to managers in compensation every other year . Jim is clueless

Amorim was awful, but he did something that Arteta still hasn't done in 6 years at the club.

Reach a European final.

Enjoy another season of zero trophies :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
Wow well done, when was the parade for losing a final to spurs?

The fact your scrapping the barrel with such examples show the sort of in the gutter standard your happy with.

Then again there are plenty at old Trafford right now

Who said that I am happy with the current standards at Man United?

I can accept Man United getting trolled by Man City or Liverpool fans, but I am not having Arsenal fans take the mick out of Man United.

What you going to do if Arsenal take mickey out of Liverpool? Write a letter of complaint? Cry to the mods like all the plastic Liverpool fans?

If you can't take banter why are you here?

He's got a fair point. Utd have been poor for years now but even Ten Haag who is p poor has won more silverware than Arteta.

Give it the large when you win something.
:wenger

Bro, I can take banter, but how can any Arsenal fan banter another team? I am confused.
Why are you confused? It's a dicussion forum, every poster is allowed to express their opinion or banter.

Yet you get certain cry babies, who seek to think only certain People / fans can make comment

This isn't a Man utd or Liverpool forum, the sooner certain cry babies understand that the better.

Just a typical weekend at Disaster FC. This weekend they got knocked out of FA cup third round, last week they fired their manager. What are they doing next weekend? Getting schooled by City. And then getting spanked by Arsenal on the weekend after. It’s all going to plan for Disaster FC.

Funny how Set Piece FC supporters are giving it large without having actually won anything yet...
Funny how retards FC are crying like the plastic part time fan base they are.

This isn't a Liverpool / United sports forum, any fan can give their opinion the sooner retards actually realise that the better.

So stop crying. Maybe go to a Liverpool fan only forum if your going to cry like a toddler.

Arsenal fans go on like they are Real Madrid or something.
No Arsenal fan on here has said they are real Madrid.

But certain Retard FC (liverpool) fans were calling their team unstoppable and would be scary in December. Maybe look at the clowns in your own fan base first.

Maybe stop running off like a coward after been humilated after your Liverpool will be unstoppable and scary. All mouth, until you get humbled. Then you dissapear like hoodini.

Hold on a minute. Do you think I support Liverpool? :ROFLMAO:

No I don't. My point is a simple one.

This is a dicussion forum. Yet man utd and Liverpool fans seem to think only fans of teams who win stuff can make comment.

By that dumb logic, PP should be shut down. Pakistan cricket team doesn't win much. So no one on this forum should comment on non Pakistani cricket teams.

The entitlement of certain posters is hilarious. This isn't man utd passion or retard FC passion. So if me or any other poster wants to comment on another team we will.

Simple as that.

Relax Tubby, I dont need to run from you.

Quadruple still on for Arteta. :ROFLMAO:

Set Piece FC fans are so touchy.... no one said you cannot give an opinion, but we only mused at the giving it large attitude of the Set Piece FC fans here.

Go join a Retard FC only forum and quit crying. Your another one who was running his mouth at start of season (giving it large) and can't take banter / criticism. Stop playing the victim as though Retard FC isn't full of gobshites like you, kingcoward and a few others

A manager right here!

As an ex LFC player, unlikely to go to Utd but if you get him, Utd will be back!
Real Madrid are the most ruthless club in history. They don't care if you were a club legend or not. If you don't deliver, you are out within months.

Here you have Man United fans who are longing for Ole's return because he scored a champions league final winning goal in 1999. :ROFLMAO:

I think it could happen.

XA is 44 years old. Top play. Top experience. Long milage.
Xavi will also be able to attract players, as at the moment, Man United aren't a very attractive destination for any top player or potential top player, due to no Champions League or even European football, and the rubbish owners.

United ain't getting no top manager, just like Chelsea the owners will want a puppet and a yes man in charge.

United wil simply hire someone to be the Head coach

Manchild is at it again?

Setting rules on cool banter, lame comments etc....

Being a manchild allows him to relate to the kids and to the old'uns.... the van twerk memes- not sure what rainbow era that belongs to....

🤣🤣 enjoy your relegation scrap with Liverpool
Relegation again?!

Haha, you are not just confused regarding your age, 15 going onto 50, not just confused with the closet and tje van twerk memes and pics you hold dearly- not just confused with actually speaking to people in real life and spending your life online bantering , just confused between relegation scrap, battle for 4th and now relegation scrap!

Talk about low self-esteem!!

Seems like some has let their pet dog loose, yapping the same old boring nonsense. I guess Retard FC fan base Is full of these chuwawas

HAha and i guess the Arsenal fan base is full of manchild's, with no social skills or life, posting reams and reams, talking about picture of other men mockex up tp twerk- checking in with the rainbow crowd.

Puffing their chests out as they finally should win a prem league.

Chuwawa?

Bro, you're pushing 50and you post that dross, that tripe, hahaha, it is almost surreal but i do love it, the gangster OAP, the chavvy pensioner etc. Etc.

At 50, take it easy, got to watch the old heart rate

Bro, I can take banter, but how can any Arsenal fan banter another team? I am confused.

Arsenal are well ahead of Man U. You’ve just insinuated that you’re better than us because you reached an European final is just so dumb.

Paul Merson was right when he said Man U’s ex players and fans need to realise you’re not the Man Utd team that had the likes of Ronaldo, Giggs, Scholes, Keane, Ferdinand and Vidic. Those days are long gone. You’re a mid table team that got knocked out by Grimsby a few months ago. That is the reality whether you like it or not.

I don’t expect Arsenal to win the league this season but I would rather be where we are as current leaders than be closer to 17th in the relegation zone. You are 17 points away from 1st and 11 points ahead of 17th.

Also, with you all due respect you can’t be belittling Arsenal when your known for appetite for mediocrity when it comes to your perspective of sport in general. I didn’t want to bring it up but you forced my hand. You are one of Misbah’s biggest fans. Going by your logic if your standard is that low, who are you to pick on any of the top half sides of the PL?

You can misbehave if you want but don’t go crying to mods when you’re shown the mirror bc.

Seems he needs to come up with some new material, same recycled rubbish. Imagine constantly bringing up someone's so called age, because you have zero football knowledge or intelligence to actual talk about actual footballing counter points.

Carrick to bring in Holland as Man Utd assistant

Michael Carrick has agreed to become Manchester United interim head coach - and former England assistant manager Steve Holland is set to be his number two.

Jonathan Woodgate, Jonny Evans and Travis Binnion will also be part of Carrick's staff.

Former United and England midfielder Carrick agreed a deal on Monday night, with an announcement due on Tuesday once the necessary paperwork has been signed.

United sacked Ruben Amorim after 14 months on 5 January and Darren Fletcher took charge as caretaker boss for two matches.

Carrick will be in the dugout for Saturday's Premier League derby against Manchester City at Old Trafford.

The 44-year-old had a three-game stint as United's temporary boss after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's dismissal in 2021.

Holland worked under Gareth Southgate when England finished fourth at the 2018 World Cup and were runners-up at Euro 2021 and 2024.

He spent several years with Chelsea, where he had major success under a number of managers.

The 55-year-old was sacked as manager of Japanese club Yokohama F Marinos in April after only four months in charge.

Woodgate worked under Carrick at Middlesbrough and was a team-mate of United director of football Jason Wilcox at Leeds.

Woodgate managed Boro between 2019 and 2020 and had a short spell as Bournemouth manager in 2021.

Former United defender Evans will return to Old Trafford. Binnion is already part of the club's coaching staff.

Carrick held face-to-face talks with United officials last Thursday and is understood to have impressed chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Wilcox with his vision for the team.

Carrick is set to play a 4-2-3-1 system, a move away from the three at the back set-up employed by Amorim.

Solskjaer, who has played and managed United, also held talks with the hierarchy over the vacancy.

But Carrick has been chosen given he is more of a hands-on coach than Solskjaer.

Fletcher, who took charge of the games against Burnley and Brighton immediately after Amorim's exit, will return to the Under-18s.

United view him as a key part of their coaching staff moving forward but it was mutually agreed that a return to the Under-18s is best to continue his development.

Football counter points?

Why so, dear manchild? More fun to focus (trigger warning..... repeat) on the "grown 50 yo man" bantering (but it is cool and not lame) and putting up van twerk etc....

New material not needed, old is gold (pardon the pun....)
