Mohammad Rizwan - First impressions!

Technique and approach remind me a lot of Umar Akmal.

A very good innings by Rizwan . Sensible positive batting with good strike rate . Unlike blind slogging like Sohaib Maqsood & Umar Akmal . Crucial runs at crucial stage . # Good Signs
He has worked so hard in the last 2 years to make pakistan team . It's time we persist with him at number 6 and give him a longer run at this position rather than the chopping & changing our most fans want after few failures and the chopping & changing syndrome our most selectors usually suffer . Give him a decent run now .

I am also impressed by his temperment. Instead of blindly hitting like Umer Akmal and Maqsood, Rizwan played proper shots. It seemed like he had a plan. After losing Azhar in the 40th over, Rizwan concentrated on singles without taking any risk. Then towards the end when Mathews was bowling with 4 fielders on leg side boundry, Rizwan did not take on the fielders nor did he try to expose all his stumps to give room and hit through the off. Instead, he played proper cricket shots knowing that there was a single every ball and when he placed it well, there was a 2. This allowed him to play at 6 or 7 an over without any risk. As a result Pakistan batted out 50 overs and managed 85 odd runs in the last 10 overs. Excellent sensible innings!!!

I am noticing a new trend on PP these days. Anybody who looks promising be it babar azam or rizwan reminds people of umar akmal technique and approach wise. Co-incidence?

Said this few months ago. Now you see Anchors in Pakistan calling Rizwan the Pakistani-AB!!!

Let's not go that far. The only person who can play like AB in Pakistan is Umar but he lacks a brain.

Rizwan is street smart, crafty in his own right.

There is a similarity in some of the shots and ways of going about it. Rizwan looks a lot like Umar when the bowler is running in to bowl in his batting stance while Babar plays the pull shot in a similar way. Difference, of course being that these 2 seem to possess brains.

I agree with you 100 % . After an Odi innings or a T20 innings what matters most is that how many runs you scored ? And at what strike rate ? Rather than how many sixes you hit out of the park ? With respect to big hitting umar akmal & sohaib maqsood are not glen maxwell . I am a fan of umar akmal but his batting temperament and taking pressure at crucial situations does not impress me plus he has regressed after his first year of Int cricket . I want him to score heap of runs in first class cricket & stake a claim for number 3 or number 4 position in pakistan team . So that if hafeez or Babar get injured or do not perform in 5,6 matches than umar akmal should replace them if he is on bench with heaps of runs in FC cricket behind him .
Currently I want hafeez Babar azam and Rizwan shoaib malik to be persisted with till atleast tri series ends with haris also in the mix .
Coming back to Rizwan & number 6 batting position I am happy with our number 6 scoring consistently with a strike rate between 100 to 150 . Which Rizwan is managing M.A . Hope he carries on playing like this for long .

I really like his athleticism, he runs hard(converting singles to double), great in the field, we are not used to see those catches in green colors, he is spoiling us . Other good thing about him is that he looks more like a regular batsman than a wicket keeper batsman. His technique is looks better than what we have seen from past keepers, after Sarfraz we are getting better quality keeper batsman a welcome sign for future.

You could see difference between him and Umar, he approached innings like a batsman than a slogger. He attacked Milanga also tactically not emotionally, playing late on his yorkers.

Good thing now is that with field restriction lifted in last 10 overs, batsmen are not expected to score 100-110 every time. You need players who can consistently give you 70-80 runs.

Not sure about Babar, but Riz definitely has a similar stance and some of the horizontal shots look identical.

Rizwan's batting in the past few series has been very good where he scored 2 100s against Australia, he usually plays in ODIs at the number 4 position, his role and Sarfaraz's are different and both can play in the same XI

Also he is a backup for the wicket-keeper if God Forbid some injury happens, and fitness wise he is in top one or 2
