Narendra Modi : Mega Discussion Thread

Indian media is a joke or is Modi ??

......Actually I think it's both, and they probably feed off each other well.

What s stupid speech by a PM.Should have never allowed him in our country
The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and his 5 brothers were at the airport to welcome Modi. The UAE govt welcomed Modi with open arms. You have no say.
But i was reading some where that UAE government is very happy with Modi
Apparently they were.
I am a UAE citizen FULL STOP!
UAE doesnt grant citizenships to South Asians.

LOL believe whatever you want to.It wont change the reality that I am an Emirati and Modi is a terrorist

Wont change the reality that South Asians dont get Emirate citizenship and Modi is welcomed by world leaders with a red carpet so you calling him whatever doesnt matter.

amazing scenes really, never seen anything like it.

really setting the bar high for future leaders of South Asia.

Getting an entire cricket stadium with 50-60K crowd to listen to a leader of country in a foreign country is actually an unusual scene. He has been able to get a huge crowd in many countries.

I think only an Indian or Chinese leader can attract that kind of crowd in so many countries as long as he/she is hugely popular. In this case, Modi seems to be a popular leader.

Its not about how many Indians they are in UAE, when has any Asian leader engaged them like this?

There are some high brow dinners at best, the general public is rarely invited in such a manner.

Its the post-Obama age, politicians now have to be 'cool' too.

What is it about him which makes him popular? Ayatollah Khomeini used to be really popular back in the day.

Sorry my mistake. I always thought oman was smaller than UAE in everything. It is so low key politically.

Its not the same any more.Has changed a lot from what it used to be specially Muscat(the Capital).

The idiot loves taking selfies everywhere. I guess he does this when........... Sneeze......... selfie........ dress change....... selfie............ loose motion......... selfie blah blah ................. I guess he is the only Prime Minister in world who thinks by taking selfies he will receive more respect.

Woh kehtey hai na... The more haters you have the better you're doing? :))

Seems like its the case with Modi on PP. ;-)

although it's hard for anyone to get a citizenship to the gulf countries there are quite a few who actually have been able to get it. There are tons of Pakistani and Indian Saudis in Saudi Arabia. and if they exist in Saudi they could easily exist in the Emirates as well. usually requires some sort of connection....when i played for saudi arabia under 17 our captain was an Indian Saudi who could speak arabic and broken hindi.

Can Pakistanis provide a bazaar list of reasons why they dislike Modi? Go ahead and populate:

1)
2)
3)

Really. In what way.? Is it about Sunni/Shia? I used to live above sabeer supermarket darsait. Does it still exist? There was that roundabout nearby. Ruwi in nighttime was very magical.

You have to be someone of prominence to get citizenship in UAE.They dont hand it out even if you stay decades in that place but is not someone who is of importance.

WSJ article also said he was hinting towards Pakistan.
Dont know why he has the habit to visit different countries and whine there about Pakistan.
I think he is obsessed with Pakistan.
and LOL at those people who thinks Pakistan is getting Isolated.
i think they need more research thn talking Gibberish over here.
the SCO membership is the main example of pakistan getting Isolated .... :yk

Probably him being the first capitalistic leader in Indian history and most Indians wanted/voted for economic growth. I may be off target but that's what I have understood from WSJ/Economists articles. Then you do have to be a good speaker to be popular. Not coming from a dynastic family may have added to his popularity as well.

Anyway, if India can grow at 8-10% for an extended period only then they can lift millions out of poverty. China has done a fantastic job and many folks who have not been to China probably don't understand the scale of work by Chinese in the last few decades.

Some of the biggest Rockstars the world has seen (mostly dead now) must be rolling in their graves because of Indian media (and op) calling this a rockstar treatment....

Funny to see the man behind the massacre of so many Muslims not being beheaded in a Muslim country for crimes against Humanity (Yes, court gave him a free chit but whom are we kidding here). I will wait for him to visit Saudi though.

Exactly. Such stuff is pathetic. Thats why PPP is suchay fail. However, i cant really apply the logic consistently as the same ruling party PMLN is also family based.

Anyway, good stuff. My only issue with Modi is that his selection as the PM is opposite to what i believed off India. I thought you guys were liberals and slightly more open minded.

Economically he is the most progressive thinking leader we have. Right now, India needs to progress economically, and progress huge. Otherwise, it could be harmful for the indian economy in the long run

This portrayal of Modi as an economically progressive leader has always intrigued me given his attachment to Hindutva ideology as espoused by Shiv Sena and the RSS. Coming from a Muslim background I know first hand how religious principles and capitalism don't make comfortable bedfellows.

CAPTION TIME!!!!

Modi: Your hands need to be further down my back for the tango
Alive Sheikh: My band only plays waltzes and polkas. Is that paan on your breath?
Dead Sheikh On Wall #1: This new generation of sheikhs really is desperate...
Dead Sheikh On Wall #2: Oh look, there's Firebreaker

The dead Sheikh # 1 is Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan al Nayhan, the founder of UAE. Not such a respectful thing to call him dead sheikh. He was a great man, loved by everyone. He was the one who brought the South Asian community to UAE, and always advised his sons and locals to respect them and treat them as their own. As a kid living in the UAE I always admired this man. Whenever i go back, i literally have get sad everytime I see his picture and realize he is not among us. He also did a lot for Pakistan.

The dead Sheikh # 2 is alive. He is the son of Sheikh Zayed, and the current ruler of the UAE, Sheikh Khalifah bin Zayed Al Nayhan. Though not at all like his great father, he is still respected by many. Again, not so respectful by calling him a dead sheikh on the wall.

Just because Pakistanis find him bad doesn't mean Indians to have to find him bad.

Similarly, just because you think he is your saviour, rest of the world may think he is a clown and he is surely proving to an uneducated clown. I think he is too cheap to become India's PM, he has no grace at all. A lot of things happened during Manmohan tenure but i have never seen any negative comments against him from Pakistani side but Modi is certainly 3rd class clown.

Modi & Nawaz Sharif both are gawar but know how to play up to the media.

Talk about yourself and not the rest of the world.

Stop teasing him Romali_rotti

Yes, the Emirati boy has been uncharacteristically aggressive recently, but it is natural. I hit this stage more than a decade ago, went through a similar phase, but with time, I learned to control it. So don't fuel the fire bro, give him time. :)

In his speech, he asked this question from Pakistan. A PM should not deliver such kind of words, it will bring further hatred instead of peace.

The issue is that common man in India believes that there is no point in talking about peace with Pakistan..that is scale of destruction Pakistan backed and Islamic terrorism has created in India..majority people support confrontation with Pakistan and Islam..we doesn't want our society to go British way..

Yes...because your society is so much more civilised and enlightened than the British. :91:

Obliviously not..and that is the major reason for Brits suffering today..allowing unlimited freedom to a religion, which is interpreted by themselves to be violent in its basic tenet against other religions ...being more civilised they did allow unlimited freedom and are suffering now

The Islam that is spread today doesn't believe in peace and harmony anywhere...and that is the reason why it is not cohabiting in a peaceful manner with other religions world over..and it's a fact..denying that won't chance it

Perhaps all the Indians who live in Britain should apply for Indian visas and jog on back there if it's so bad here. I shall write to my MP and request him to pass a motion barring all immigration from India (for their own safety of course).

Lol...it's not an answer to my question about Britain..that was not the point at all..how can you link that..

You were the one who said "majority people support confrontation with Pakistan and Islam..we doesn't want our society to go British way"

I am just pointing out that Britain is doing just fine and is in a far better state than India, a fact which is confirmed by the thousands of Indians who flee to the UK for a better life.

Now if you want to confront Pakistan, be my guest although I don't know what is keeping you. It might be easier to confront Islam as you have a large Muslim population so confronting them by ethnic cleansing seems to be an attainable goal and one perfected by your esteemed PM. :19:

Yup..fine...one small correction above...confronting with Islam means confronting with Islamic fundamentalism..that I should have made clear..and confronting with Islamic fundamentalism is precisely the major reason why we elected our PM with such a majority and he is doing it fine..and second thing, confronting Pakistan..it's also in right track and you all know that your country cannot see internal peace, until and unless your country stops support to anti Indian terrorism..we are paying back in same coin and will pay back in more coins until your country stops it ...and well big LOL if u think majority of Brits are happy with fundamental Islam, which has creeped into majority of Muslims in Britain

Can you back that up with some facts or is it more hyperbole from the resident of a country which voted in a Hindu fundamentalist Prime Minister?

you're painting a BILLION people with the same brush. think about it yourself. Indonesia is the largest Muslim population in the world, the Islam there is not violent. This is a regional issue stemming from the Saudis. You need to do some reading and once you're done, perhaps go and see how actual Muslims live their life before you make every Indian sound like a fool (and yes, based on your ignorance, I too now believe a billion Indians are ignorant as hell (just what you did with Muslims))

All I know is that I've raking in the moolah since this government came to power. And I'm not even so much into politics - didn't even vote, for example.

Also, Manmohan's 10-year reign was a tragedy.

Its not just his free market leaning but also the quick completion/implementation of government projects. Be it projects like the Sabarmati Riverfront or land acquisition for industries or powers sector reforms in Gujarat.

Lol at beheaded. He will visit any country and he will be given a red carpet welcome.Keep whining.

LOL at the guy who posted a pic with a lame attempt of some humor on homosexuality is explaining what is respectful 1 post after.

Was refering to the Sheikh infront, not behind. Almost all pics would have Sheikh Zayed's pic in the background, in the UAE. My comment was right. If you really think calling Sheikh Zayed a dead sheikh is humor, then you prove that you are an indian.

Honest question though, after noticing MODI for sometime...is he really gay? Not a laughing matter but just an honest question if the PM of the largest democracy likes guys, hence the reason why he isn't married. Maybe the conservative society of India wouldn't approve of this, hence why he decided to not go ahead to marry a woman for show.

So humor is only humor as long it meets your standards of what's acceptable? Dead man on the wall is a standard refrain in many internet memes.

What does it prove about you when you were making jokes on homosexuality based on a picture of two men hugging, which is common in Middle Eastern and South Asian culture?

Gandhi is known to be very fond of men (not kidding for those who dont know). He was in his own words in love with his french gardener. So its a good thing for indians that their new rockstar is at least following their founder in one aspect at least.

On the contrary, conservatives are the actual capitalists. We see that in the US as well, where the bible-toting Republicans believe in a laissez faire(minimal govt interference in business), low taxes and pro-business environment, while the socialist Democrats believe in placing curbs on business, more social benefits and giving more power to trade unions. So not surprised that Modi is thought to be economically progressive; Muslim conservatives are actually an exception and not the norm.
