Tomorrow the world will see the debut of Nathan Mcsweeny as Australia's test opener as he seeks to accompany the experienced Usman Khawaja for the all important BGT trophy.

Nathan Mcsweeny also has very good numbers in List A cricket and if BGT goes well, Australia might be tempted to try this lad out as an ODI opener.

Meanwhile Jake Fraser-McGurk has recently struggled in his international career. In the t20 circuit atm his competition is Mattew Short as one of these 2 will be shortlisted as an opener alongside Travis Head.

However for Odi's, JFM's future is uncertain.

So long story short, The title says it all.

Yea.. there is so much buzz around him in the media.
His best format is odi atm not tests.

He's only played 22 list A games and has scored one century and 8 half centuries in all of them.

So far he's way more consistent then JFM. However he's not really an attacking batsmen.

He's an accumulative one. He has a 5th gear but takes a bit of time.

I've seen this guy play in BBL. He takes a bit of time but he really butchers bowlers if he gets going.

I genuinely believe he's the guy you want for odi.

Solid prospect and gives me Mitch Marsh vibes once settled.

Australia needs some stability. Curiouse to see how he goes. He made 39, 88*, 14, 25 against India A.

I think he's raw, but must be invested in. This guy is alot better then JFM as a propsect.

Unless JFM learns footwork and how to bat aka not just lofted strokes 24/7, Australia can't afford to rely on a baseball player who's poising as an international batter.

JFM for t20 sure, but in odi I think Mcsweeny is the right call.

JFM has a golf style swing. When it comes off he will look like a million dollar player. Brevis looked more refined than JFM. Yet he couldn't crack it at the highest level. They have to expand their range and improve shot selection.

Jake Fraser's stats look more like those of a parchi player.

How on earth did he make it to the Australian team with such numbers?
Because of his fastest ever List A century and his Ipl performance. Australia thought a gun blazing opener is what they need for whiteball.

However the fastest century is a one off on the same vein as shahid afridi and IPL prepared video game pitches where even Travis head was smacking 80 of 24 lol.

Nathan Mcsweeny on the other hand is a solid gun propsect. Do watch his videos on YouTube. He's an accumulator but has a lethal 5th gear. His footwork is solid and you can clearly tell he improves game by game.

Dude has been watching footage of bumrah on repeat and has been practising on end.

Aus has found a solid propsect.

He + Harry dixon are 2 players I can see being gun players for aus.

As for JFM, we'll see, So far he's a hack.

He'll hit a few golf shots for sixers here and their but it won't matter if every tom dick and Harry will expose him.

A player with zero footwork and technical defencies will get exposed eventually.

Don't get me wrong no technique is perfect and even atg batters have flaws, but basics like no footwork is something that won't lead to success.

Even Afridi has better footwork then jfm atm

Australia have a way of developing their players and it goes well more often than not. Michael Clarke made his test debuted while averaging less than 40 in FC cricket. And he went on to become an ATG captain.
Warner debuted in t20is without having played a single FC game and he was molded into a great opener in all formats.

I like the look of Henry Hunt and Caleb Jewell too.

What's wrong with Renshaw and Bancroft?

Aussies seem to be going with left field picks for openers.

Renshaw is a good one but he's been out of favor for some time. He also batted for years in middle order in between.
Regarding Bancroft, they don't have much faith in him in terms of technique and as suggested by Warner, he would keep getting out the same way if the pacers are 140+ clicks.

No comparison at all. no point in comparing them atm. It is the start for them. JFM is an IPL-hyped player who did nothing at international level till now. Mcsweeny has no real international experience yet.

Let them play for 1 or 2 years

Warner doesn't like bancroft but loves Mcsweeny.

The thing is they're consulting Warner cause at the end of the day, Top priority is figuring out his replacement

Ponting was the first one to suggest McSweeney should open and his voice carries a lot of weight.
