Conditions were a key talking point during the first Test in Bengaluru, where Rohit Sharma's misjudgment of the pitch and weather gave New Zealand an edge. As the series moves to Pune, conditions could again play a crucial role, with drier surfaces expected. New Zealand, aiming to make history, will need to adapt and find different ways to beat India.

India faces some selection dilemmas after Sarfaraz Khan's impressive 150 in the first Test. With Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant now fit to play, KL Rahul's spot in the team may be in question. On the bowling side, Washington Sundar's inclusion to counter New Zealand’s left-handers could mean Kuldeep Yadav might be left out. There’s also the possibility of resting Mohammed Siraj due to his average performance, with Akash Deep a potential replacement.

New Zealand, too, has selection challenges, though Kane Williamson’s injury has eased one by allowing Will Young to keep his place. However, with Pune's dry conditions, the team might consider bringing in an extra spinner. Deciding who to drop among their pacers, all of whom were crucial in Bengaluru, will be a tough call.

For India, a loss in Pune would leave them needing to win four of their remaining six Tests before the World Test Championship final, with five of those games in Australia. Securing as many wins as possible on home soil is crucial for their chances.

'No Injury Concerns' For Rishabh Pant Ahead of Second Test vs New Zealand, Says Gautam Gambhir

India head coach Gautam Gambhir stated that Rishabh Pant has “no injury concerns” and is set to keep wickets for India ahead of the second Test against New Zealand starting on Thursday.

Pant hurt his knee during the second day’s play of the first Test in Bengaluru, which the hosts lost by 8 wickets.

The swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batter was replaced by Dhruv Jurel behind the wickets in the first innings, after which he came in to bat and put on a fiery show for all to see in the second innings.

Pant is said to have hit the nets for batting practice and also had a wicket-keeping drill with Gambhir on Tuesday.

“Absolutely,” Gambhir said on Wednesday when asked if everything was fine with the wicketkeeper-batter.

“I think he’s going to keep wickets tomorrow. (There are) no other fitness concerns,” he added.

This will come as good news to Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who had earlier said that team management didn’t want to take any risks with Pant.

KL Rahul out and Shubman Gill in.

Rahul has the best talent. But with a weak mind, he will never prosper. He is well past 30. He is not going to change now.

Rahul had some utility as a keeper batsman when Pant was in hospital. Now that Pant is back, Rahul's time is up. May be in Australia or England, he may have utility.

Seems like Pune will be slower and lower. Could see Siraj sit out for Axar. Also why no XI announcement?

wont be an easy win for sure as NZ alreadu shown domincance on a tough wicket in last Test match.
Yep depends on NZ mentality. If they played to crush India, then they could survive. But if there goal is a draw or close win then game would be over within 4 days

Easy win loading for India
No. Guys like Conway, Ravindra, Mitchell played for CSk turning wickets. Conway is almost a CSK veteran. They are more versatile than Indian batsmen on such tracks. That is the distinct advantage no other team has. It almost neutarlizes the Indian advantage. On the contrary guys like Kohli are not that good on such tracks.

Last test match mirrored new Zealand home conditions very much ,their fast bowling will be neutralised this time ,last time once pitch settled down their bowling become toothless.

After NZ win this series becomes exciting .

Good contest coming up.

I hope Akashdeep play instead Siraj

Toss update:

Shubhman, Washi & Akash in for KL, Sirak & Kulli....
At least our batting is super strengthened with these guys....
I feel washi should be a future all format player...

India needs early wickets to get a grip on this game from the start.
Easy atm for kiwis.

Ashwin is every bit as good as Anderson with bowl. You have to be a hypocrite to believe that Anderson was any better. Ashwin is actually better cricketer than him due to his batting which has always been very valuable with 6 test tons to his name.

Very ordinary bowling by Ashwin

He is trying too much instead keep it simple.

Good Pacers are expected to be effective everywhere and yet,

Away from home:

Ashwin - avg 29 with 8 5-fers in 72 innings [ Double the rate of taking 5-fers with the same average]
Anderson - Avg 29 with 8 5-fers in 149 innings

Over all:

Ashwin avg 23 with 37 5-fers in 196 innings [ Double the rate of taking 5-fers with a better average]
Anderson avg 26 with 32 5-fers in 350 innings

Completely agreed.

Good job by NZ here. They need a big score batting first to put pressure on India. India is behind in this series.

Keep rotating he strike, That unsettles bowlers.

Great review and then a horrible review. In same over.

300+ will put NZ in strong position. India bats 4th and this pitch will be tough to score 200 in 4th inning on Day 4 or Day 5.

NZ doing well, I dont think India knows how to get Rachin out.. Conway looks well set too, ominous times?

What kind of name is Washington?

What kind of name is Washington?
googled and found this
"Sundar's father, a cricketer who made it to the Tamil Nadu Ranji probables without getting into the final squad, named him Washington to honour his godfather, Mr Washington, who would buy bats for him and pay his fees."

No idea who the original Washington is...

NZ bit ahead but India can use the post lunch session to bag a quick wicket if one of the batters lose concentration.

Hopefully another quality knock from Rachin coming up.
Conway's resurgence in form has come in the right time for NZ

India win the toss and bat they get bowled out for under 50.

Next match Kiwis bat first and grind India into the dust.

Pakistan meanwhile are on fire.

Oh how the tables turn :ajmal2

Yes we knew Joe Root wasn't gonna stick around for Eng because of the wicket

:apology

Rohit should have reviewed when Conway was on 30. ultra edge showed he edged it.

Form is temporary, class is permanent.

Pakistan has class, India had form.

New Zealand and South Africa are better team than England as understandable by their performance in Asia compared to England who cashed on absolute roads.

Rachin has good technique. But we dint come up with plans.

Looks like NZ is determined... Indians sense a home series loss after a long time!

Akash paying homage to Indian bowlers of the 90’s. Beautiful.

AFter all that gloating about 4000 days undefeated test series streak, it looks like Indians are finally nervous..

Looooooooong way to go though..

Mashallah what a wonderful selection Akash Deep is.

Does anyone in India know anything about this guy and why this clown was selected?

Took a fantastic ball to get him out, such a fine player. NZ’s greatest in the making.

NZ have lost all their key batters in these conditions. A chance for Rohit and co to bowl out NZ under 300.

God damn Wash my boi.

Turning into quite a good bowler...

His release reminds me a little of Colin funky Miller.

Keep going lad, 💪

:yasir What a turnaround.. i was away for just few minutes

Let me go away again then

Top 5 test bowlers to debut in this millennium:-

Dale Steyn
Pat Cummins
Jasprit Bumrah
KG Rabada
Ravichandran Ashwin

Anderson misses out due to poor away record, failing to count against a strong SA batting lineup in 2012 at home and a tailender with bat.

Next session will be fun (rubbing hands together) either a fightback or India will be all over NZ..

Looking forward to SOuthee sixes too..

Father Bumrah with only 170 wickets at the age of 30 is ahead of Anderson who has 700 wickets.

The Indian delusion needs to be studied.

This was bound to happen as not all NZ players are adept to these conditions. Blundell is not meant for these conditions and Mitchell isn’t any good as he was in England.
Mitchell is one of the better players of spin in that line-up though. He needs to deliver because he was disappointing in Sri Lanka too

Blundell has been failing for a bit too long now. Maybe time to give Mitchell Hay a chance.

Slow down mfers! Please don't finish the match till Sunday! I want to go to our third class Gahunje stadium. And I can't leave work till then. :uak

Gotta agree with @Mamoon here.

Rachin Ravendra is turning into India's daddy

Took a fantastic ball to get him out, such a fine player. NZ’s greatest in the making.
Yes, a wonderful find by NZ. Looks like he will go on to great things.

I should also say, a wonderful acquisition by CSK. He will play a lot more matches for them than for NZ. In fact 25%-30% of his time each year is already dedicated to CSK.
