What's new

New Zealand [278 & 256/8] draw the second test against England [307 & 352/9] to win the series 1-0

Grandhomme playing too many shots , runs coming , but he has to keep in mind that they are already 5 down

Kiwis need to get within 50 of Poms - then it's an open game. Wicket should be getting better and Poms don't have any spinner better than Root, I think, Kiwis won't mind chasing Pom's 1st innings 2nd time; but I think they have the capacity to chase even 350 at Hamilton.

England still over dependent on their two workhorses to get wickets

Such a shame that all other newbies are nonexistent whenever they play

Somehow kiwis batting looks thin specially top order.

192/6 at close, 115 behind, England still on top but if NZ can get within 30 of their all out score then this could be a super close game.

It's actually new ball - both sides 80% bowling attack is stacked on the first 23-25 overs of Kookaburra, because there is not much spin at Hamilton and not much reverse either. Poms recovered from 160/7 or so to post 300+ while Kiwis can reach close to 300 from 34/5 or so.

Next innings, I expect Kiwi top order to do better - apart from better batting display against new ball wicket should lose some lateral movement, Pom new ball pacers are both well over 30 and that should affect their 2nd outing with ball. If it doesn't end like 57/5 2nd time, Kiwis should be able to chase 300+ from a start like 64/2 in 23-25 overs; it'll be easier after that.

Agh, England could’t capitalise on 36-5.... good fightback Kiwis. Proper tough test cricket.

England need a 50 us lead . Don't trust there batting line up under pressure. Pitch should get better for batting.

supposed pacer Mark Wood getting phainty from the #11 :))

Boult is terrific. I didn't realise he is only 28, somehow i thought he was older. He might just be hitting his peak around now.

England might just run away with this. NZ don't want to chase anything over 210-220 IMO. And even that will be hard.

The Hobbits have failed Birmingham :mv

142 run lead, 9 wickets in hand. 2 days and a session to go in the game. Britain on top :stokes

221 lead for 3 down. Hopefully we win this one.

Vince got runs shock.

Now he is nailed on for the whole English summer :D

Once you get past the new ball, the pitch just looks so flat. Two more days of sunshine forecast which will help the batsmen too.

Broad got 6 in the first innings and Anderson got 4. Confirms their status as one of the classiest hunting pairs in recent years, however also indicates that most bowlers (English or otherwise) are not good enough to consistently take wickets on this docile pitch, and more worryingly shows England’s utter reliance on both of them - you wonder who could possibly replace them in future.

In order to win the game and not let this one drift towards a bore draw, England need to make the absolute most of the two new balls that they will get. Only when the new ball comes out for 10-15 overs is there anything in this match for the bowlers.

England lead by 231 runs with 7 wickets remaining with 2 full days remaining

What can New Zealand do? :uak

Interesting that only the opening bowlers from each side have got wickets so far in the match.

Has this ever happened before?

England are the favourties from here. They look like getting close or above 400. No matter how flat the pitch is, that will be a difficult chase in 4th innings of a test match!

Kiwis bowling well here , but Poms are ahead , no doubt , chasing a target is not going to be easy in Test , it never has been , very few times teams have chased over 400

No player in the world scores 50 with the consistency Root scores.

NZ is out of this match. Its either a draw or Eng wins.

18 for no loss .

Great chase going on , hope this turns out to be interesting test , whoever wins.

ENG doesn't have much spin threat - if Kiwis can survive the post tea spells of Jimi & Berbi; this game should go to wire.

I hope we win but I think we might fall short by 30-50 runs. Anderson should prove to be the difference.

Chasing a big total is not easy , it requires concentration , kiwis need to apply themselves . If the bat out till Tea tomorrow , they can win. They should make sure they get partnerships in and not lose wickets in heap.

I really wish they would turn the stump mic off. These loud pensioners in the crowd are giving me a headache!

They have played out 23 overs unscathed, though 20 short of ideal score; but game is in perfect balance.

98 overs possible tmro, which probably takes out Kiwi's chance to score remaining 340; but Poms can indeed take 10 wickets. They'll get the 2nd ball probably 30 minutes before tea, which should allow opening pair long spells.

Why this series is only 2 tests. They could have played another test and reduce a couple of ODIs. There is break of 2 days sometimes even 3 between ODIs. In the 90s, there used to be only a day break. Sometimes teams used to play back to back like in Sharjah
