I stayed up to watch a few hours of the final days play and boy was it a great day of cricket. There were quick wickets, some swing, some pace, grit from the batsmen and big strikes too...it had everything test cricket calls out for except a conclusive finish, however, I believe this series shows that England has a lot to work towards under a new captain.
The batting line up needs a lot of work and the bowling needs additions beyond Jimmy and Broad. New Zealand for their part look to have a solid, settled side who can punch above their weight when needed. They were tough and competitive against SA, beat Pak and have just beaten Eng. Add in victories over Bang and WI and this is some run for them. Let's see if they can replicate some of it abroad.
England has been winless in last 13 tests away. Lost 4-0 to India and Australia, 1-0 to NZ and drew against Bangladesh. Also, England has hardly dominated at home. Has lost at least one match against top 8 teams at home in last 4 years. I would say that England is a distant 5 right now behind NZ, India, Aus and SA. Highly overrated.
The crowd build-up before Broad took the wicket of Williamson was exceptional. Everything from the chants to the commentator's reaction was awesome to witness.
