What's new

New Zealand (346/5) comprehensively defeat Pakistan (345/5) by 5 wickets in their first warm-up game in the ICC World Cup 2023

A big score here for Pakistan is going to do them more harm than good. Just like the false sense they derived beating teams like Netherlands, Afghanistan and C teams and becoming no. 1. Here too if they post a huge total without facing Lockie, Boult and Southee can instill false confidence which can burst like it did in the Asia Cup. But then again a under par score would have dented their score more. So Pakistan shouldn't give much importance to this match and look at it like a net session. bar and rizwan should have retired by now and given chance to the middle order as their is more rain forecast later. But Babar and Rizwan will likely only retire after completing their 100s.

Babar out against 2nd grade NZ attack after scoring 80

Keep crying because sarfraz isn't coming back
I think he has a point. Its not about Sarfaraz but the middle order will most likely be coming to bat before the 25 over mark in most matches. It important for Ifti, Saud and Salman to face as many balls as possible. Whats the use of Babar abd Rizwan scoring inconsequential tons in a warm-up match and play on till back end of innings?

There are no benefits when it comes to pad statting in an unofficial ODI.

Could this be the reason why Babar scored his runs quicker than what we’re used to seeing?

Rizwan can retire here. Salman and Iftikhar should be coming in now otherwise they'll have too few overs to find their touch.
This non-retiring will only be justified if the likes of Agha, Iftikhar, Saud bat up the order next warmup game.

What was quick?

He played at 85 SR entire innings.

Hit a few jobber shots with a 6 at the end once he reached his 50 to get a SR of 96.

Didnt even try to go fast till 60 runs.

I think someone needs to tell Rizwan that his runs today wont contribute to his average. Maybe than he'll get moving along
It’s about the theatrics if he can get to 100.

For Babar I felt there was more intent from today. He had to start slow after the team had lost 2 quick wickets.

But he did show some intent to make up for it with those sixes he hit later on.

Babar in default mode would scored his runs 15-20% slower in the same situation.

Point of information for those who were impressed by Sri Lanka's approach earlier....

They are now 202 for 5 after 40 overs, lol.
Jinx. I was about to post this.

Another masterclass by the brilliant minds at PP! Our friends here never fail to miss out an opportunity to exhibit their intellect by preemptively handing out verdicts.

You really think Rizwan will put the team before himself. He will retire after scoring another 30 runs for his ton which will eat away another 5 overs. Will be interesting to see if pakistan uses the same batting order even in the next warm-up with maybe replacing Fakhar with either of the openers.

Lol we have a better run rate and have lost fewer wickets against stronger opposition

Yeah obviously the opposition is strong using Philips, Ravindra and Santner.

Who was the fast bowler? Mitchell?

Henry bowled 3 overs in entire match so far.

Sir ur analysis didnt hold any weight as 1 match unfolded and you want us to believe that it will hold weight for the entire WC :)

I am just talking about intent.

If you think Imam, Abdullah, Babar and Rizwan will suddenly start emulating Indian, English and Australian batsmen when the Cup starts then I respectfully disagree.

Well that great intent you talk about has taken Sri Lanka to 218 for 5 from 43 overs against the likes of Taskin, Tanzim, Shoriful, Nasum etc

Saud's looking good against spin. Lets see how he does with fast bowling.

Also can see some drizzle . Expecting play to get called off soon.

Unfortunately, there's still an opportunity for some pictures while he's doing the "Dua" to circulate on social media.

If it rains and Pakistan innings finishes and other batsmen dont get a chance who is to blame ?

I know.

It's almost as if it's a practice match and the purpose of it is to grasp the conditions.

Ridiculous from Babar to not throw his wicket away in a meaningless warm up match.

Wonder if Pakistan will experiment with brining Fakhar down the order like they did with the professor

Saud Shakeel could be very useful this world cup as we don't have many batsmen good against spin.
Not too impressed against pace thus far, but too soon to judge.

It really can't be fun living life crying all the time.

Pakistan have never produced a WK batsman as good as Rizwan in their history.

Rather than whining why don't you just enjoy the show?

People act like batsmen as good as Rizwan grow on trees in Pakistan lol. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Its irrelevant if Rizwan is better than Gilchrist or Garfield Sobers.

He is playing for a century when other batsmen should be practicing.

Stand and deliver from Rizwan against Ferguson. Few knowledgeable posters think this is Perth they are playing at. Ye India hai likes of Southee and boult will not break jaws

Fakhar is not the only batter that we have and will ever have. He has had enough. He needs to rest, work on his mistakes and be back stronger than now. Let others have some time too.

Absolutely hate the kit colour combination that is on display on this game. It seems like both teams are wearing black.

1992 colours were so beautiful.
