This is not meant to be an attack on MoYo, it is just a fact that he is not an outgoing and aggressive person/captain. In the end it goes back to the simple fact that in order to win a test you have to take 20 wickets. So as a captain if you are going for a win you need to have enough bowlers that can get you those 20 wickets, and playing in foreign conditions that usually takes 5 bowlers. But if you are going to pick 5 bowlers then you also need to have enough faith in yourself (as a batting captain) and your batsmen to play with only 5 specialist batsmen. Or you can play it safe, which a defensive minded captain usually does, and go for 6 specialist batsmen, but that usually means playing for a draw. Also, IMO, playing an allrounder in tests does not make much sense, as their weaknesses get exposed in longer version of the game.
I agree with you that our current batting form is not strong enough to go with only 5 specialist batsmen, but what is the point of playing 6 if that only gets you a draw? I would rather coach the batsmen and instill some confidence in them and tell them ahead of time that we are only going with 5 so each one has to make it count. But that requires motivational and interpersonal skills, and its been a long while since we had those qualities in a captain...IK was the last, may be the only one.
