Pakistan batsmen resilient on rain-hit Day 4, reach 100/2 at Stumps, still trail by 210 runs

Hopefully I don’t pass out again lol, this has been the problem for me rain comes on shut my eye for a bit and miss the whole day. :))

I wish he was just offered to play as specalist in SENA for Test’s. In test’s he can’t bend his back in the UAE heat anymore that’s why he retired from Tests to imo. If it was just SENA he would have carried on imo. The 5 year gap really hurt him he would have been up there as a top 3 bowler for us had he played through. He was a Wasim Akram type talent, not even Shaheen is as talented as him. Dude was bowling 145+ and swinging it troubling Watson in his peak and Ponting. On top of the once in a lifetime talent and potential he had he had ice in his veins he showed how clutch he was in that World T20 at just 16/17. To think what could have been really saddens me.

Same brother. I will never forgive Butt for what he did with Amir.

Imran Khan himself said that Amir was ahead of Wasim Akram at the age of 18.

Will never forget the long-haired Amir bowling jaffa’s at 145+ kph.

Ah man it feels sad. :(

Disagree. As far as they are concerned they have 1 and a half days left to bowl pakistan out.

Also, for England it was more important to secure the draw first by batting for as long as they did as this ensure the series victory.

Yes, 1 and a half days to bowl Pakistan out TWICE. Did they really need an extra hour to increase their score from 500 to 560? No, Pakistan would never have a chance of winning the game either way. Everyone knew the forecast for today and tomorrow was not good. The way we were batting on that 2nd evening, they could have bowled us out mostly before close of play. Big big mistake by Root to not declare much earlier, will cost them the win.

They don't need the win. A draw is enough to secure the series.

Dom Bess on Sky Player Zone is saying that the wind affected his bowling ,and it was not as qindy when he was bowling compare to the first day when Pak bowled.

A little thing called the World Test Championship rewards match wins. Why would they play for the draw when in such a commanding situation in the match. Of course they would want to win.

Want and neednare 2 different things.

Declaring at 500 would have given Pakistan 300 to avoid a follow on which they were not so far from. It could have changed the dynamics of the game on Day 3.

Like I said, you always secure the draw first then go for the win.

This really is turning into the worst case outcome for Pakistan.

If we scrape a 1-0 defeat then Misbah, Waqar and Azhar won't feel pressurised to move on. We'll be stuck with them for years. Shafiq will also be able to hold on if all his buddies are still there.

We really need the rain to stop and Pakistan to be skittled as quickly as possible so heads can roll.

I dont think heads will roll regardless. Let's be real, azhar, misbah and shafiq are not going anywhere during this wtc.
Would rather they actually perform and show some fight than them keep failing only to see them keep playing.

I would be really surprised, If Asad shafiq gets another series. People here are complaining abt Azhar Ali Captaincy, well he never asked for it, it was misbah who brought him back, which was a v poor decision. Waqar younis what i liked abt him, that he is moving on with a young fast bowlers, they need experience and it will only come if they play against top class teams like Eng-Aus etc. Remember failure in tough conditions is the first step of success.

The most important thing to discuss is Misbah-Ul-Haq. His appointment is needed a big discussion. I personally believe he need to be removed from one position which is selection, i dont mind him being a coach, because if Younis khan stays long with the team, trust me younis will replace him, first is to remove him from selection, this is where all these things going wrong.

He had Haris rauf shinwari sohail khan to choose from yet he played 3 fast bowlers on trot. Even England rested their bowlers around.

Don’t understand the reason to drop Imam ul haq, he was doing a fine job before this series and he is young and needs backing. Instead we went with abid ali 33 yr old finished article. Even Haider Ali should have been given a shot.

We r experimenting with bowlers, but 1 area where we never developed was batting and yet we never experiment with this.

If Pakistan can save this test, this is a successful series for Pak in England. A loss of 0-1 is a very fruitful result for overseas team, particularly given that Pakistan is in transition right now.

What a horrendous point of view!

You are happy for Pakistan to lose so that a player/coach you dont like will go away.

How do you think the players in that squad feel? Do you think they would like to rollover and play dead?

Dont forget we should have won the first test and it would have been a good tour. So far they have competed well, apart this test where inexperience came in the way in the first inning.

I would take 2 draw instead a loss, loss means giving away 60 points.

Hopefully there isn’t much rain. The last thing this shambolic team deserves is to escape with a draw because of lack of overs.

I don't want rain because I want to see the boys make England work and fight it out. Will be a great experience moving forward for all the inexperienced lads at least

I agree only if we do it by batting 120 overs in 2nd innings.
England will have basically stolen the series

Absolutely. If not for that partnership between Buttler and Woakes, Pakistan were always going to win the match.

England definitely have dominated this test but for Pakistan, it will still be a well played match if they can bat well enough in the second inning.

A question for the UK residents here....

How are the winters there ? Does it rain often ? Or does it snow too much ?

I follow the Premier League and everytime I see a game (in non-summer months like Nov/Dec) played under the bright sun, I always think why they can't host int'l cricket too ? Are sunny days too rare outside of the summer ?

Well forgot the different regions etc for the moment...
During the winter it gets light at 8am and dark at 4pm.
When its sunny you get frost which means the ground starts off hard and then gets wet and soggy.

So even if there was no rain and bright sunshine, you wouldn't be able to play cricket in the winter.

It's not possible to play test cricket in the winter or even late autumn. It's too cold (less than 8-9 degrees ). It doesnt rain but sunny days are rare.

Also it gets dark very early at around 4pm so not enough daylight to play test cricket

Unfortunately we have some fans like these who always want the team to loose so that few players or coaches they dont like can somehow vanish. It isnt even the first time, this cycle keeps repeating with every coach and every other player. The desperation to see some people out of the team overtakes their support for Pakistan cricket team.

A further inspection at 3pm, but covers are being rolled up. Just a question of drying the outfield it seems.

So isn't their anything that can be done to prevent/remove the frost ? Like the super soppers or something?

Funny thing removing A B or C will somehow make Pak into world beaters, when Pak has never been consistently good in its entire history. We have to demand improvemwnts continuously but also accept our limitations due to our cricket structure, resources, internaltional exposure available to our players, and lack of opportunity of playing at home to help Pak win more games boosting players confidence.

10 years of exile has significant effect on Pakistan development in cricket. If your grass roots aren't strong than how can you expect strong trees to grow. We cant blame the players instead its the corruption in the system, no merit in the country when it comes to selection.

Just not possible. As others have mentioned, the days are very short, it does rain more often, you get ground frost , sometimes througout the day. You get fog, mist, the temperature can drop rapidly as soon as the sun goes down.

Football grounds have undersoil heating and the game is different as it is more of an all weather game unlike cricket. It could be possible to play indoors as has been done in Australia but that would cost money and the english schedule wouldnt allow for it.

If this test ends up being drawn, Pak missed an absolutely golden opportunity to win the series. They will rue that loss at OT as they were in control of the majority of that match and should have won it.

Its rain forecast tomorrow as well.

Game restarts at 3:45. This could be one long session of cricket. There are less chances of rain for the remaining day.

Merit on selection I agree with just like Fawad career had been destroyed, and many decent off spinners are being overlooked like Zafar Gohar to name one.

The boys were looking solid. Not saying they would’ve pulled some miracle but this stop-start-stop drama will destroy any momentum.

I don’t think you follow the premier league enough man.

I follow it religiously to a great extent and from November to February end almost 75% of the games have rain or light drizzle and mostly overcast. Especially in Manchester.

If the test ends up being rained out then Pakistan got lucky because we’re definitely losing otherwise.

Successful series?

We got flogged in this Test, we choked the first one and would have lost the second one as well.

Not enough data to make a claim about second test especially after seeing how competitive the first one was. But carry on!

Though I agree the series won’t be a success by any means especially when Pakistan hasn’t lost a series against England in 10 years which literally no other international side can claim. Many have lost both home and away to England in this time period let alone just in England. So losing that record is a huge fail.

Pakistan team has been in transition since I started following cricket and looks like they will be for eternity.

Not sure about 2nd one because they were 110/4
Everything was possible.
It's true that we are not good enough but that match was still 50/50.

what do you mean "we". I thought you were an england fan or an Indian fan. Not sure "we" is accurate in your case.

For an inexperienced team, this test series hasnt been a complete disaster. The conditions were hard but we found some good players who have shown some ability. i wasnt expecting anything more.

You can’t just select youngsters and call the team inexperienced and then as a result avoid accountability.

It’s not that Pakistan has bad retirements of some major stalwarts in the last 12 months or so that you can has the transition excuse

Pakistan in desperate situation to have good hard hitting batsmens in the middle order. Haider Ali may be the answer we cant play snails cricket anymore. We need batsmen who can play at a strike rate of 70 plus. Azhar Ali is a good player but not the one who can win you matches. We need 2 more Babar azam

I am unfortunately a Pakistani so I have to support this rubbish team.

When you overhype garbage young players like Naseem who then inevitably flop, there is no point in crying about inexperience.

There is plenty of experience in this team. The issue is that they are just not good enough. This bunch of mediocre players will remain mediocre no matter how many years of experience they have at their disposal.

This has been a disastrous series and anyone who did not have his head buried under the ground could see it coming.

If the 5th day of the first Test would have rained out, people would have ever entertained the possibility of Pakistan losing that one either.

As we saw in both the first and the third Tests, our bowling attack runs out of steam after 40-50 overs and they just go through the motions with our dud captain having no idea what to do.

The second Test was basically shaping up to be a repeat of the first Test. Only this time, England were likely to secure a 40-50 runs first innings lead if not more.

But yeah, we can pretend that we were winning that one or it was 50-50 since it was the only Test we didn’t officially lose.

Pakistan is the only team in the world that is always inexperienced, even when the majority of the players in the team are 30+.

The chances of a result have reduced now. There is rain forecast tomorrow as well

You have a solid point.
Our bowlers bowls like part timers after 40,50 overs. So another question arises here

Are our bowlers mediocre?
Are they do not know how to bowl with old bowl?
Are they physically not strong enough to bowl with same energy after 40,50 overs?

Oh man wow. “I’m unfortunately a Pakistani.”

My advice for people like that is to look at them with pity and hope ALLAH swt gives them hidayat.

Lets concentrate on cricket.

God, some people need to change their record honestly, it’s getting boring the way certain people go on and on, we get it for Gods sake!

All of the above except it can occur before 40 overs

Yeah I don’t see the reason to do bhangra when I know their reality and where they stand in world cricket.

That doesn’t mean that I don’t wish to see them become a world class side.

It is a mediocre and unfit bowling unit overall.

Abbas - mediocre
Shaheen - very good but needs some guidance
Naseem - awful
Yasir - good in certain conditions/circumstances

So overall, it is a very ordinary attack but people act as if it is a world beating one but is handicapped by Azhar’s poor captaincy.

Do we have a realistic chance to win this or would it be a draw?

Pakistan will have to get 450 to put a target on board, seems difficult.

We will need rain to save us and get a draw here

Yeah because I don’t celebrate mediocrity. I don’t care about flash in the pan success.

I will appreciate only when I see that we are becoming a top side.
