Pakistan bowled out for 297 at Stumps on Day 1 of 2nd Test against New Zealand

Faheem is not going to reel himself in. And we are stuck with this XI for the remainder of the Test. May as well enjoy the entertainment while he is there.

Rizwan has already done much better in his little career than that useless sarfraz could do in his whole career. He should have been selected much sooner but he still has 5-6 years left.

That’s the problem with our management, they just don’t know when to retire the players or restrict them to a specific format..

This was high quality batting from rizwan, he has deserved at least one century in his last 3 innings

Jamieson is bowling one unplayable delivery every over Inswing is massive

He’s swinging this round corners. This is pretty crazy. Abbas, Naseem and Co. better have some of their own.

Man it must suck to face Jamieson out there.

He's getting it to go off a length and he's getting the ball to jag back.

Pitch is doing a lot, but y'all just see how the Kiwi's will bat. I guess they will score at least 400

There is grip in the it and Jamieson certainly is exploiting jag off the surface. Hope Zafar bhai is not one of those non-spinning spinners like Yasir bhai.

Zafar spins it a lot

If there is something in the pitch, then Naseem will be really good.

Is the over rate on target? Didn’t think the rain delay was that long.

Not sure why one player well means putting another player down to do it.

Sarfraz until January of 2017 (33 matches) had an average of 42.34. He was pretty good back in his prime. He just got too old and declined after 30.

He has 18 fifties and 3 hundreds. :sarf is Pakistan’s all time best keeper-bat.

Apparently the guy is a well known troll, ignore it.

Jamison bhai is such a great bowler in these conditions. Azhar bhai is playing well again after failure in 1st test.
Rana vs Pandya will be bump after these few fours from Rana.

Our fielders will need to catch better then they did in 1st test when we bowl.

If Azhar gets a 100 on this wicket it will be worth 200.

Simply because of the conditions, it will be his best yet.

Hahaha, last line is golden ;)

Sarfraz runs came mostly in UAE and sri lanka.
No disrespect to Sarfraz but way rizwan has batted in Aus eng and NZ is a stuff of dreams for sarfraz

LOL he averages 24 in SENA countries after playing more than 15 matches .He has always been rubbish. He could only score on those low bounce UAE pitches. He played way more matches than he should have had played.Awful player one of the worst ever.

This is probably the best test cricket strip I have seen in a LONG time. They do not make them like this anymore. If Pak manages 300 here and not shot themselves in their foot in 2nd innings, they will win it.

Looks like a good pitch. Jamieson is a freak. Everyone else has taken a beating.
Azhar looking in supreme touch. Rizwan played a characteristic Rizwan knock.
Shan is still the same timid guy. Haris is in awful form.

This is a good pitch in terms of the ball coming on to the bat. Hard square means it goes off away quickly too.

Equally, grip, movement and bounce have kept pacers interested throughout.

Edit: Just seen Shah sa’ab handed Zafar his cap. Good on him.

What about taking wickets. Can our bowlers bowl them out? Apart from Shaheen our attack is pretty toothless. Their batters have negotiated Abbas pretty well.

You gotta admit, other batting line ups we’ve had in recent time might not have recovered to 200+ after being 4 wickets down at 86. That too on a green pitch with a genuine speedster making the batsmen dance around. Fact of the matter is we’re still going at 4 rpo in a test.

Could’ve been in a real good place if we had proper openers but the rest of the batting is at least coming together

Crazy to see the completely different approach Pakistan has taken compared to the previous match.

And it's the right way to do it. You score the runs and make the bowlers bowl defensive lines instead of constantly attacking the stumps which they were doing in the last match because all the batters did were just block.

This is the next immediate worry. We have gone at nearly 4 RPO. If Abbas doesn’t take wickets, at the very least he will be able to hold them down. Otherwise all bets are off. Naseem will need to come good this time - pitch has enough for him.

What's a good 1st innings score on this pitch guys? Is the pitch expected to get better?

Don't be surprised to see posters still saying that batsmen are to blame even if bowlers do a poor job when NZ bats. Bowlerrs often get free pass.

Not disagreeing with Rizwan being better but lets also not pretend like Sarfraz was the absolute worst. He was a fine wicketkeeper and probably one of the better ones considering Pakistan wicketkeeping woeful history.

Younis Khan's good work is pretty apparent here.
When was the last time our batting lineup took the attack to the opposition in the first innings?

And it’s still swinging with even their slowest bowler troubling with consistent movement.

Interesting to see that the middle and lower order has had a plan in both Tests. They can fine tune the execution over coming months and years.

I can't believe Azhar has done so well here.He has always been much better than the most useless player ever Asad shafiq.

Azhar has defied all expectations with this knock. He's looked so assured and confident. I think the key is that he's been lookin for runs throughout.

That is a million dollar question no doubt. I believe that Abbas will be far more effective on this strip and could do the most damage. I am more worried about the 2nd free rider Shah. How would he bowl. He was atrocious in the first test trying to bowl full and ending up over pitching outside off most of the time. I was furious.

Pretty decent wicketkeeper and could even have kept himself in the Top 5 in LOIs. Feel like did himself disservice by going down in the order.

Still remember his opening against SAF (Steyn and Morkel) and standing 3 feet outside his crease. Steyn at that point was not completely over the hill either.

How do we know it is YK? How come not Misbah or someone else?

Cause Younis is the batting coach. It could be Misbah as well but he never really advocated to go after the bowlers during his captaincy stint.

Precisely. Think he pulled Southee or someone when he was batting on around 10 runs.

No clue whether he decided this approach on his own or if someone spoke to him. He is experienced enough to know what to change at this stage. Good effort but needs to bat big now.

Sarfraz was an excellent player who was hard working and never gave up. He caused his own downfall by batting in the lower order. He should still be respected by every Pakistani for the CT 2017 win. It had been 8 long years since a global tournament victory

We are expecting way too much from Naseem here. I don't have much expectations from him. Shaheen and Abbas would be the ones to do magic here if we are to win.
Williamson and Taylor are technically very proficient to negotiate our bowling attack though.

Yup, just checking ;)

Could also be Rizwan. His character is, to put politely, opposite of Misbah’s. Sample size is small but quickly growing.
