Pakistan bowled out for 297 at Stumps on Day 1 of 2nd Test against New Zealand

3rd 5 wicket haul for Jamieson in his 6th test I guess
 
As I have said before Faheem is a better red ball batsman than white ball currently. His domestic stats have also been reflective of that since the start of his international career. Fans and experts often tend to judge the usefulness of the player in one format based upon other formats.
 
Well played Faheem, deserved a fifty.

PAK should throw bat now to post as much as possible and try to bowl 5-6 overs tonight, then next morning with new ball. No point hanging around.

A spinner that is finished though. He doesn’t want to spin the ball and just relies on the straighter ones. The last time shadab and Yasir bowled together.l, shadab was getting more bounce in addition to bigger turn

8 overs left until the second new ball. I think they need to try to get as many runs as possible in these overs. 35 runs here will be gold

In ODIs and T20s, he usually has to come in situations where he has to hit out from ball one at the end of the innings. In test matches he is under less pressure and has more time to get his eye in before going for his shots and that probably helps him in the longer format
 
Just time to get out or hit out, don't wanna waste new ball in the start of morning session chance, I think we have a good enough total if we can bowl well for a change.

You probably didn’t watch the last game. Yasir bowled well, but he was unlucky. Still picked up a few wickets. He was getting good turn and bounce.

Yasir has over 200 wickets. I am not sure what he has done to earn so much hate on here. Forget the Pakistan team, he’s still the best leggie in the world.

I think that's fine. It shows that the batsmen are desperate to stay out there and fight for their country. Pakistan will get three new reviews anyways from the 80th over onwards

I get your point but it doesnt matter as 2 reviews were remaining and 3 batsmen left. After 8 overs reviews were going to reset to 3 again. His bat hit the bat too so he probably wanted to try his luck

His stats are padded with UAE performances. His Sena record is terrible and he habitually concedes 150-200 runs in the first innings and you cannot have that from your premier most experienced spinner in an inexperienced bowling attack
 
Shaheen with that body frame and technique look so out of place while defending, go hell for leather lambo, you ain't lasting long anyway, what's the use of this man, and he has shots as he showed in some LOI.

No, that rule is long gone .. only 2 reviews per innings .. 1 extra review per innings coz of COVID .
 
Why did Shaheen face 5 deliveries? Zafar needs to take a single and ideally face the bowlers from the other end. He may have a better chance to hit out.

Fair point. Thing is he is not exactly a big power hitter as some believed so expectations from him hitting 30 off 15 every other match were unrealistic. He is a pretty good timer of the ball though and when ball is in his zone he can play decent shots when he is not loosing his shape to hit it big which he is under pressure to do in LOIs as you mentioned.

Yep, Jamieson has had to carry the attack.

Usually Wagner takes a couple of wickets, keeps it pretty tight and puts the opposition under pressure.
 
Thing I like about Zafar is his temperament. He is competitive and mentally strong

That’s mainly coz our fast bowlers seldom make break through sa up the order specially in Australia .. New Zealand hasn’t been a place for spinner in last 5 years , same with South Africa and he has done fairly well in England by winnings us 2 test matches ..

Sure, but the guy I quoted said that Yasir is finished, which is just a ludicrous statement.
 
Zadar has looked decent. Should look to up the ante since I don't see us lasting 4 overs against the new ball

Yousaf in an interview mentioned that he worked with him on his batting, back lift, position and wanted him to wait for the ball to come to him, playing the ball late and to avoid thinking about the leg side and working on his off side stroke play. He has shown quite a bit of signs on this tour that he has put in good work on his batting
 
And anyways Zafar is his first name, don't know why they using Gohar. Both on scorecard and commentary.

Yes, will have to see how he does in other conditions especially sub continent. One thing he has improved since the series against Ind is his pace. Now he regularly gets into high 130s early 140s.
 
They need to attack Jamieson a bit. Give it back a little. We need quick runs as well.

Had batting potential since U19 days but, has really developed into his batting and started producing results in last couple of years at domestic level.
 
Jamienson could be handy if he concentrates less on batting....if he spends more time as batter than he had to do away with his bowling even slightly to prolong his career...which newzealand won't like to be honest....best example Stokes Pandya......I hope he can atleast be like Kallis....
 
Pakistan will happily take 280 even from where they were initially. Though thinking about it again, we should aim for 300 still.

How much trust do you have in the bowlers to deliver this time around?
 
This is class A batting from Pakistan. Just shows how they are underated as a batting unit. Compared to the much hyped big 3 batting line-up they have performed miles better in tough SENA conditions. Particularly the middle order and lower middle order is pretty good and in top 3 if not the best in the world.
 
How many more chances are we going to give to Shan Masood and Harris Sohail? Another Pathetic start, opener have failed again. Pakistan is going to lose another test.
 
Jamieson's workload needs to be managed to ensure he doesn't break down.

He's a genuine match winner.

Yousuf has definitely put in some work and it is reflected in the backlift and overall balance of some upcoming young batsmen as well.

Not sure why you wouldn’t think a bowler who concedes 150-200 runs in almost each match is not finished. There have been few matches in between where he has taken wickets but if you are the premier spinner and releasing all the pressure, then it is just not good enough

I get a feeling they are both done. One or both will have to play a mammoth inning when we bat again if they would like to be in the reckoning.

Not much. Shaheen carried hard last time around. And I don’t trust the others enough to chip in this time despite the conditions.

Not easy to hit Jamieson and Zafar, who is the primary scorer, is facing him. They need to try and swap ends so that Zafar can tonk Henry.

Ideal scenario for us is we get you all out towards stumps and you're around 290

Zafar’s inclusion has shortened it a bit but yes our 3 specialist pacers are one of the worst with the bat.
