He's a favorite of head-coach Shukri Conrad. Very average player based on everything I have seen of him.
 
I think that lbw review had an edge and the ball was not taken cleanly so they forgot about lbw review.
 
Terrible terrible captaincy. Given 11 overs to Asif who's hardly looked threatening and treating your main gun Sajid like a supporting bowler
 
Maharaj clearly the star 7fer , SA batting with a purpose they look composed and assured , test of Shan Masoods skill

He is a idiot .
Not having a decent 5th bowling option will be a problem for hosts as it should be for all Test playing teams . 100/2
 
You should never prepare a pitch that requires 3 spinners and one seamer. RSA had three spinners but only 2 were enough to do the bulk of the bowling.

If it's a minefield, 2 are enough.
If it's low and slow, 2 are still enough.
If it's green, 1 is enough.
If it's bouncy, 1 is more than enough.

Pak do not deserve to win this test in all honesty, this is truly a display of peak defensive mindset.
 
Pakistan clearly messed up with their batting. This wicket was perfectly fair for 400 this morning. SA have shown patience and are putting up a good fight.

I wonder when the spinners start to get some real purchase, that's when it'll get interesting.

Match is very much in the balance.

They're playing to win. If they prepare seaming wickets the advantage goes to their opponents. I'm completely fine with teams preparing wickets that suit their game.

You often need the 3rd spinner because of variety and more importantly to give some rest to the spinning fingers/wrist of the other bowlers.
 
Pakistan tail bottled it and now Saffers will make them pay...lol seems like captaincy announcement mid match has already rattled some.
 
Mindless overthrows there. Shaheen did not need to throw because they were comfortably home.

Sajid has bowled a poor spell. A lot of freebies and general lack of control.
 
That De Zorzi reprieve proving to be very costly. Next in was Brevis who most likely would have employed a high risk game

Pakistan had already lost two reviews so they didnt bother. But that was plumb.

My comment isn't about them playing to win or not, it's more about the team composition where I'm saying that you do not need 3 specialist spinners in the team. You can use 2 spinners and a couple of part timers who can roll their arm over if necessary. Saud & Salman are both capable of bowling a few overs to break the monotony.

A test team needs pacers even if the conditions support spin, as fast bowlers' footmarks create rough patches that assist spinners as the test progresses.
 
Stubbs / De zorzi are not used to these kind of tracks. So expectedly playing slowly as they can collapse any time. They don't have Sehwag type of batsmen. or technicians like Amla
 
Advantage South Africa. They could take a first innings lead from here.

Ominous signs for Pakistan given our batting record in the second innings especially nil contribution from the last 4 or 5 in this series.

Those of us who thought South African batsmen would just meekly surrender again to the spinners..
