What's new

Pakistan comprehensively defeat South Africa by eight wickets to set up series decider at Cape Town

Imam seems perfect when chasing scores around 250 or below but I still worry when we have to chase 300 plus that he may struggle like the rest of the line up.

we'll most likely never chase 300 anyway, even if all goes right

we probably won't even concede 320+

our maximum ability is around 310, everything has to go right for us to chase that amount.

anything more than that, you'll need an afridi like blinder.

With every shot, with every score, batting against teams like the saffers, Imam proves his critics wrong, time and time again. There may be questions about him in tests but as an ODI cricketer, he is very good. If only his own people could enjoy that.

Also, terrific bowling, as always, by Pakistan and when Shinwari is fit, he is a real handful. Shaping up nicely.

Precisely his SR in the first 10-15 overs hovers around 60-70 and it takes him a while to reach 90-100. In a 300 run chase we would be doomed unless the partner(s) at the other end are batting at a SR of 120+.

At the WC we could be chasing 300. We need to attack when bowling like we did today.

they want imam to bat at a strike rate of 200 consistently.

SA hoping for outside edges against Fakhar. Need to keep it within his body, his weakest spot

So happy to see Pakistan doing good.
If i am honest the 2-1 against Sa in 2013 was a fluke. The 2nd odi we were down and out Sa had 8 wickets and 25 or so to make in 4-5 overs and still lost.
But now they are winning very comprehensively

If only Shoaib Malik was a half decent against pace he would be the ideal captain in this side going to the WC.

Refreshing to see a captain back bowlers and go for 10 wickets rather than wait for things to happen. Sarfraz on the other hand just bullies his bowlers which is further compounded by his poor tactics and awful batting.

Looks like Imam will miss his hundred today, not enough runs left to chase.

Indeed it was a trademark SA choke.

Just didn't middle it. Good knock and a timely return to form for FZ.

Surprised Fakhar didn't clear the rope given how well he hits spin. Problem was he didn't middle it.

As a pakistani supporter you can’t hide anywhere. Every players who celebrates in an awkward way some how turns out to have some connection with Pakistan.

ahhh, imagine if we had tahir and ajmal bowling in tandem in the uae

QF of ICC world cup 2015
Semi Final of champions trophy 2017
Finals of Asia Cup in 2018

They are a team that has worked considerably hard in trying to build a team that would match the best teams of the world. They lack talent in some aspects however their attitude to improve is second to none

They reached semis of CT bcz of the rain. Asia cup isnt an ICC tournament and they are still poor in bilateral overseas tours.

Shot wasn't on

Shot was, execution wasn't. If he was to swing it with spin, his body weight shifting wasn't proper, and it ended as a wristy scoop, not much power from bat swing or high back lift.

so you're in toronto? enjoying the snow?

That part isn't right & I'll correct that every time. Rest is fact.

I felt it was slightly short from the side on camera view.

If Aus match wasnt rained off from a winning position how would BD would have reached Semis?

They played extremely well vs NZ though.

pommie mbangwa is a great enthusiastic commentator.

i remember his commentary during razzaqs 109*(72) :))

Then, the shot should have been easier - he could get under ball, instead of hitting on the rise. At J'bug if you can't clear boundary on slog swing, you have to go back to drawing board. It's at 2000 metre and below 35 degree south (latitude) - in summer, ball flies there, you have to clear only 60 metres.

Just 4 overs to go for rain not spoiling the result

His go to word is "Goodness" lol just like Rameez's go to word are "smooth operator" :))

Upon completing this chase, this would be Pakistan's first ODI win v South Africa at the Wanderers.

At Cape Town we have a poor record winning only 1 in 5 ODIs v South Africa.

Cant remember last time we had an opener as consistent as Imam

butt wasn't bad for the era he played in, 36 average for an opener during his time was solid.

he definitely would have feasted with the current rules.

but other than saeed anwar himself, we actually haven't.

Ntini suggesting that 3rd match result could have been different if 50 overs were bowled
