Pakistan end a rain-shortened Day 1 of the 1st Test against South Africa on 145/3

SA are back to fielding well today and the bowlers have also been disciplined.
 
No easy singles are available... We should copy this field placing too...

trundling or not he is bowling wicket to wicket. They have a plan for sure. 85 in 40 overs its Saffers on top with moulder playing instead they have a very good batting line up this match.
 
How did Pakistan lose 3 wickets for 20 odd on this batting paradise?
SA have done well here to get those wickets but Fawad is looking good home or away. Amazing consistency
 
Fawad and Babar are so opposite to each other in terms of elegance, run scoring but are so good to watch together... they epitomize everything about test match batting

This is what happens when you reverse batting order and open with tailenders and then a night watchmen.

Yes I love the contrast, they should've been batting together from 2017 onwards.
 
Does anyone know how that change in batting stance at time of ball delivery helps Fawad? u would think standing still is better for timing etc.. I also believe due to that shift every ball he might get tired in an innings
 
Rameez and bazid talking about pak 260-70 here. We need to get 300+ here some how.
 
Mahraj has bowled 18 overs already today, he might have loads more to bowl today.
 
Fawad should try to face Maharaj more. Babar should try to face fast bowlers more.

Both look comfortable against all bowlers. Babar wow in first test was due to his misjudgement ball going to spin or not. So in this inning he is expecting either and playing with the allowance.

I think it will be harder for new batsmen to settle in.

A realistic goal is to build partnerships and go for 250.

Fawad is in farm and Babar is Babar, he's making it look easy.
 
Fawad should also score some runs now. No point putting all the pressure on Babar
 
Still loads of work to do with bat here. Lose a wicket or 2 and we are back in trouble.

Just get 2 openers with the highest and second highet average in first class over the last 3 years and open with them... can't do worse than the current pair. Anyone know who that might be?
 
If Pakistan can sort their opening issues then with Azhar Babar Fawad and Rizwan in the middle order they can dominate the next WTC cycle as 5 out of 6 series are in sub continent and the 6th one is in West Indies.

George Linde update:

No fracture reported on x-ray.
The laceration was sutured and protective strapping applied. The medical team will assess how he manages aspects of play from this point onwards.
 
I am sure Buvame bowled against Pakistan in South Africa, if that is the case why is he not bowling?

I reckon we might have a short-ish day today. InshAllah big things from both these two. Tomorrow will be a belter of a day to bat so wanna take proper advantage, doesn’t matter if you are batting slow. They will get frustrated and tired which is what the body language suggests.
 
Great session. Pakistan are going to need players with the determination to grind it out like Fawad does when he goes in a few years time. Key player!

Misbah and Past Cheif selectors should put their head into shames for destroying a good test cricketer career like Fawad Alam.

Players like Fawad builds foundations for you in test cricket. Sadly we missed craftsmanship for so many years.
 
Fawad could have easily become what Pujara is for India. I have become a huge fan of him now. Whatever his batting stance is, good bad or ugly, he is easily one of the best test batsman PCT has to offer.

PCB and their selectors have robbed a great international career from him to extend that it makes one sad.
