Need to bring in Shaan Masood back in as an opener...the guy actually works on his weaknesses and has improved...

Imad is a big liability and those 2 hundred on a flat pindi deck will continue to haunt this test team for next 6 months at minimum

Shafiq already looks like a well accomplished batsman atleast for Pakistan standards, whereas Imam after playing quite a lot in different formats for Pakistan looks like he is a newbie.

We cant afford to lose anymore wickets in this session.

Imam, the first wicket to fall , LBW

Umpiring has been fairly decent in this series. Don't remember that many decisions being overturned.

A second lucky escape for Abdullah, living on the edge.

What a commie line up
- the Aussie 'Harsha' - Mike haysman - says a lot without saying much of substance with his absurd comparisons
-Bazid 'the drone' another clone of SL's ranjit Fernando - was'nt only the Rawelpindi pitch inthe first test that put me to sleep
- Alan Wilkins - with his funeral voice - yawn

Unfortunately Imam will keep his place for the next 12 months after his hundreds on that Pindi motorway.

That dismissal was reminiscent of how he was getting out in his first year of Test cricket in 2018.

It's ridiculous how our guys repeat the same mistakes over and again.

I enjoy Haysman lively commentry, and then there is also Robert Key his in depth analysis. Rest I agree are boring.

Are we capable of batting at anything above 2 rpo?

Such a snorefest. Every test match, always the same batting at 2 rpo.

Two of our top three are grinders (Azhar, Imam). Ideally there should only be one such batsman.

We've seen Australia lose their way when attacked (Stokes 2019, Pant 2021) but we don't have anyone capable of that.

My cousin actually Ubered Shan Masood to Heathrow airport a few years back when Misbah was kuptaan. They had a good chat where Shaan was honest on his weaknesses and how he was working on it. Intelligent, educated fella. He also said how everyone in Pak team is at least 3 to 4 years older than their actual official age...:shappy

Pakistanis must be superb athletes if they are supposedly 3 to 4 years older and still doing hard yards batting, bowling and fielding.

Thats the thing, I’m not even asking them to go on attack like a Stokes. But we bat at snails pace every test match we play.

So we end up either playing for a draw or trying to stop a defeat.

We’re like scared kittens and Azhar only bats to secure his place for the next series.

What was that review by Australia?

They just pulled a Shaheen/Rizwan there

Australia overall scoring rate was aproxmately 2.9 and Pakistan's 2.6, so not too much in it,and with Pakistan looking toclose theday without losing anotgerqicketa toward the end of day I have no issue with thwir run rate. Hopefully, after first half hour tomorrow it will increase.

Pak 90/1 at close.

We need to bat all day tomorrow atleast and in our 1st inns at least be on par with Aussie on 1st inns.

If Pakistan want to insure a win here they need to score at a better rate tomorrow, at least 3 an over but ideally better. Pakistan need either: a 100 run lead by lunch day 4 and then have a crack at Australia or if they can manage bat till Tea day 4 securing a 200 lead and try to win by an innings.

I believe for Shan and Imam both, no.3 would be a better spot and they will do well going forward, both have been trying hard to be test openers which is not coming naturally for them..

Azhar Ali on the other hand is good at blunting the new ball, for whom opening the inns also comes naturally , also where he had high success in terms of runs scored..

I think enough games have been played to realise this, but somehow they are stubborn to change things around a little bit..

AUS 391
PAK 90/1 (39) CRR: 2.31
Day 2: Stumps - Pakistan trail by 301 runs

Time is not an issue..wicket is flat that is the issue. 220 for 5 in which we dropped 3 catches too they nearly got 400 that was the negative. We have such a long tail so obviously have to be very careful the way we bat.

This is not gonna go this way, with 391 on the board Australia has an upper hand, Pakistan has to bat really well to reach there and take a lead.. It could be either Australia get Pakistan out for 320 or 400
Anyways Pakistan might be chasing something around 300 or 350 on Day 5 pitch

why would we need to use shan or imam at 3 when we have players like saud shakeel and kamran ghulam who should be in the middle order.

we had this rubbish with Azhar and hafeez in the past they fail in one position so you thrn let them take up another spot in team instead of using a better batsmen.

maybe we should use imam at 4 or 5 so we can hide his non existant technical abilities

Other than the morning session today when things went a bit flat for us we were constantly creating chances. Aussies also created a couple aside from their wicket. Pitch is still good to bat on but wickets fell in clusters throughout Aussie innings and I suspect that could happen to us too.

Game is evenly poised with all three results still possible.

No matter pitch, match situation or opposition, Pakistan nai bas 2 rpo batting karni hai.

Such a feeble and defensive batting side.

Pakistan ended day two on 90/1 trailing by 301 runs after brilliant spells from Naseem Shah and Shaheen Afridi helped them bowl Australia out for 391.

Resuming at 232/5, Australian batters Alex Carey and Cameron Green dominated the first session. Australia had appeared vulnerable at the start of day two after losing three wickets in the last session of day one, but Pakistan failed to capitalise on their overnight momentum, and the inexperienced pair of Carey and Green batted through the opening session to regain control of the match.

The batters slowly built their partnership, steadily pulling Australia out of the delicate situation; and they soon completed their respective half-centuries and continued to frustrate the Pakistani bowlers.

Nothing seemed to work for Pakistan in the first session. Despite starting with Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah, who bowled superbly on day one, Pakistan were unable to shake the two batters' confidence.

Untroubled throughout the first session, Australia recovered and regained the advantage and went to lunch at 320/5 with Carey (60*) and Green (56*) standing strong with their 114-run sixth-wicket partnership.

Immediately after the lunch break there was some respite for Pakistan as they were eventually able to break the 135-run partnership. Alex Carey was trapped at the crease by Nauman Ali's quicker delivery as he walked back to the pavilion on 67. And shortly after, Green was done by a brilliant in-swinger from Naseem Shah, a delivery that came back in sharply ended his knock of 79.

With two quick wickets of the set batters, Australia were under the pump. Mitchell Starc and captain Pat Cummins tried to steady the ship. But Starc, who was batting aggressively, lost his wicket on 13 while trying to hit Shaheen over mid-off. Pakistan cleared the Australian tail easily as Naseem Shah in the very next over dismissed Nathan Lyon (4) with a big reverse-swinging delivery.

Shaheen with a brilliant inswinging yorker dismissed Mitchell Swepson on 9 and Australia were bowled out for 391. With their respective bowling figures of 4/79 and 4/58, Shaheen and Naseem starred with the ball for Pakistan.

With tea being taken early, Pakistan started their innings in the final session of the day. The in-form Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq started their innings looking solid against Starc and Cummins, batting easily through their first stint. All-rounder Green was brought into the attack and Imam welcomed him with a beautiful drive towards wide mid-off, and Nathan Lyon was introduced into the attack from the other end, and he bowled at an accurate length to keep the Pakistani batters in check.

But a change of end did the trick for Australia, as Cummins, in the very first ball of 13th over, dismissed Imam on 11, trapping him in front of the stumps.

Shafique, joined by Azhar Ali, would then stitch together a solid partnership and would ensure that Pakistan were not in any trouble for the remainder of the day's play.

Shafique will resume on 45* and Ali on 30*, as Pakistan will begin day three on 90/1, trailing by 301 runs.

Good that Pakistan are still in it need a good day's batting tomorrow to wipe out Aus Total hopefully we will have to bat long in 1st inn because this pitch will open up they way silly pt and short leg jumps on it

LAHORE: Pakistan’s left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi heaped praises on young speedster Naseem Shah, said he is the future of Pakistan.

Shaheen, while talking to a virtual press conference praised Naseem’s bowling abilities and termed him as the future of Pakistan cricket.

“Naseem is a very promising bowler. I think he is the future of Pakistan,” he said.

“We have supported each other throughout the innings and the way he bowled was outstanding,” he added.

Shaheen then opined about the pitch and the playing conditions of the ongoing Test said it is challenging to bowl here.

“It is not that easy to bowl according to the pitch and the conditions. However, we are trying our best to stick to our plan,” he said.

“We are getting reverse swing on this pitch but not getting much help from the new ball,” he added.

The left-arm pacer also commented about Australia’s performance with the bat and claimed their two partnerships turned out to be good for them, however, claimed that the home side bowled decently.

“Two partnerships turned out to be important for them but I think we bowled with quite a discipline,” he concluded.

Today Azhar looks to be a bit different , seems to bat a bit quicker.. He hit a six of Lyon when he was 7 (19) also he reached 20(40) a bit abnormal from him, to bat at 50 SR.

Probably a message from the dressing room, if you play like a scared kitten go play at ur own backyard.

Then later to preserve the wicket at end of Days play, went into that nice shell which Misbah built for him decades ago... which is ok not to lose a wicket and avoid gettting a night watchman out there to save the day for the team...

It will take a long time for the team, it wont change until Azhar and Fawad are there in the batting line up...

I would like to see Haider Ali improve leaps and bounds , and get selected for tests..but unfortunately he seems to follow UA

This series would be make or break for him.. Hope he gets his chances and make it count..

He looks totally out of touch in the ongoing Pakistan cup too... Kamran Ghulam looks much better , he needs to be drafted into the side asap..

Pakistan will have to bat all day tomorrow and score atleast 240 for 6 maximum.

That will leave us 330/7 at end of day tomorrow. With just 60 behind and 3 wickets in hand.
In that scenario it will be up to Aussies to dictate pace of game. Regardless of whatever scenario our batters will have to survive 60-70 overs on last day.

Pakistan have done really well today. And full marks on their efforts in this test match so far, starting with bringing Naseem as a positive change, and with Azhar playing a positive innings. If they continue this momentum tomorrow, then lots of scenarios in play. Ideally a lead of 150 by Day 4 second session and then putting pressure on the Aussies with the pitch providing some assistance.

They should aim for 200 lead by day 4 tea mid session.

Then they are favourites to win.

But we know that’s not going to happen, they are very happy to bat at 2 runs per over

Defeatist mindset

Hope, pray that Azhar gets a double or triple ton. He is capable of doing it every now and then. If he does so or we get a couple of big centurions, the game is ours InshaAllah

Labelling Azhar’s 37 sr as ‘positive’ just says it all about his batting credentials

That would take us into day 5 if Azhar bats long Pakistan are always capable of a collapse they need a lead here or will be hanging on again like last time not once have we looked dominant in this series pathetic pitches and ordinary batting aswell struggling to score on flat wickets.

Add to that spinners who won’t be playing international cricket in the future it’s been a struggle there’s no signs of Pakistan making a mark in test cricket in the near future.

I personally feel if Pak had no intention of winning this series they could have played young spinners in place of Nauman. Having seen likes of Saqlain, Danish, Ajmal growing up this is easily the worst spin duo i have seen playing for Pakistan. What a waste.

Hafeez never played at other positions in tests.. He was so stupid himself to believe that he is an opener and that too for tests.

Azhar on the other hand was doing well as an opener until that 2019 tour to Aus where he panicked as a captain , though he did well in the 1st test, he dropped himself to no.3, because Haris got out to short ball twice in that first test which i think was not a wise move..

Cant compare Azhar and Hafeez with Shan and Imam , they are different .. Shan proved his worth as no.3 in SA when everyone failed with the short ball..

Imam would be a much better no.4 or 5 compared to Fawad and Shafiq, infact would score lot more run at those positions. but Pakistan think tank are not that smart enough to think outside the box.

Saud Shakeel is also the product of slow low pitches from Karachi . i think would be better to go as no.5 in test , he would also struggle at no.3... Need to see his skills against short ball and swing bowling.

didnt want Babar to go in at no.3 in tests, so Shaan would be the best option to go with at no.3 from what i have seen....

Imam isn't good enough for tests whichever position you put him into. His lapses of judgement and succumbing to pressure is going to keep him from having a good test career. Plus there's already Kamran and Saud waiting in the wings for a middle order berth.

Australian allrounder Cameron Green has discovered a new technique for alleviating the pressure on himself early in an innings, but keeping the mental demons at bay later on is still a work in process.

Green's emergence as a rising Test star continued on Tuesday when he struck a composed 79 off 163 balls in the third Test against Pakistan in Lahore.

The 22-year-old's 135-run partnership with Alex Carey helped Australia build a respectable first-innings total of 391.

In reply, Pakistan were 1-90 at stumps on day two, with Abdullah Shafique (45no) and Azhar Ali (30no) the unbeaten batsmen.

Green has built a series of important partnerships in his recent Test knocks, and it's something that has helped his confidence early in an innings.

"Something I found recently that helped is looking at the partnership score instead of my own score," Green said.

"Firstly it takes a bit of pressure off myself when I look up at the scoreboard and I'm only on 12.

"If the partnership is on 30, you feel calmer. That's what I've been trying to do recently, focus on partnerships and my own score will gradually increase. That's what me and Alex did."

In his last six Test innings dating back to the Ashes, Green has struck scores of 74, 74, 23, 48, 28, and 79.

He also scored 84 against India in Sydney last year.

Green is desperate to post a Test century, saying it would rate higher than snaring a five-for with the ball.

But the closer he gets to three figures, the more the distracting thoughts in his head grow.

"Unfortunately I keep having thoughts run through my head when I'm out in the middle," Green said.

"It's something that's a bit of an issue now because they keep popping it. I've got to keep working on that, feeling comfortable when you get close to it.

"It (a Test century) is something I've been working towards my whole life."

Green was undone by a peach of a delivery on day two, with Pakistan paceman Naseem Shah producing a reverse-swing masterclass to get the ball to sneak through the all-rounder's bat and pad.

Will need a KP like innings to get a good and quick lead here.

The KP innings we need but will get the W.G. Grace innings we deserve instead.

In saying that, Grace probably batted quicker than these Pakistani batsmen.

we have a very long tail plus, fawad is batting like a tail ender at the moment so far pakistan to get 400 in 1st inns will be a big ask, we need a strong batting effort tomorrow.

Sajid has been able to hold one end atleast and very important to have that option against left handers.
I want to believe that Pakistan has better off spinners to do that. When you are not a good spinner you can't hold one end neither can take wicket of left handers.

I worry about a 2nd innings crumble by Pakistan, so this 1st innings is absolutely vital that they get a healthy lead.

Middle and lower order are going to have to chip in with important runs.

Exactly they need to make sure that they bat all day 3 and half of day 4

I have a bad feeling in my water. The batting looks weak and we have a tail end that is amongst the weakest in international cricket. Alot will depend on these 2 guys and Babar. If we concede a lead, we will lose.

Overall not a bad day for Pakistan but those missed chances could hurt them.

Big day tomorrow and Pakistan need a good first session.
