Pakistan survive to Stumps on Day 3 at 160/5, with lead of 124 runs in 1st Test against West Indies

The outfield is still wet. Next inspection at 4.15pm, which is more than 30 minutes from now.

Update:

Play to resume at 4:40 pm today
Next two days early start at 9:30 am

If we lose this test match it would be a massive opportunity lost. Pakistan needs to make important decisions for the future of our test cricket. The top 3 are never going to win you games, a complete overhaul at the top is needed. Losing to WI is indeed very poor even by our standards.

Lets hope Babar can play a clutch knock here.

Faheem looks very compact player in test arena. He can judge lengths well and go for drives on overpitched and pull on short deliveries. Test arena allows him to be patient and wait for his scoring opportunities. He has had a very good test year now with bat and we can see why, he looks good on crease.

Its a pity our top order is a complete failure.

Faheem has shown slight improvement in the test arena with the bat but needs to put in the hard yards here if Pakistan's to put a target on board with 2 full days to go.

Babar leaving the ball a lot more carefully since Rizwan's wicket. Knows he cannot throw his wicket away now more than ever.

Babar essentially needs his century. He has 5 wickets to do it with. The rest are only going to be secondary. Has to take us home.

Before that boundary, the partnership was 9 from 45 balls.

If the remaining 5 wickets can somehow add a 100 as well than the things can get interesting

Can't buy a run at the moment, all shots going to the fielders.

7 runs from the last 34 balls.

Why is Babar batting so slow? He needs to start scoring a bit fluently now. He has been out there for over 100 balls.

Babar looking iffy against Roston Chase with the short leg and short mid-wicket lurking.

Babar is scoring at 2.5 rpo which is fine, he's not going to start smashing as the day draws to a close.

Faheem is the one slowing it down, he's 8 from 60.

Pakistan need to find fresh pair of opener in Test Matches , Pakistan should try and get Usman Sallahuddin as opener maybe , but keep repeating the same pair is not sensible.

Faheem not playing on his strength, he is playing too slow here, his strength is aggressive batting.

Yes, Faheem is batting like Azhar Ali.

I don't blame him at this point. 6 overs of the day left, a lead of 120 odd, just survive tonight. How we would be cursing if someone threw their wicket away here.

Surely it looks darker than when they went in last two days. Maybe its just the TV showing it that way.

43 runs in this session. I understand the important of protecting your wicket, but 43 runs? Come on!

Babar playing one of his best Test innings.....impressed by the patience showed by him

We still got a lot of overs in play even after the rain interruption. Around 20-22 overs in the final session and the lost overs would be made up on day 4 and 5 by starting the play 30 minutes early.

Important little partnership this. Babar has played really well, needs to try and go big tmw.

Great display of patience shown by both. Need to start all over tomorrow. Stretch the lead by another 100 runs or so.

Test team hasn't recovered after Misbahs and Younis retirement. The players who were supposed to take mantle have failed miserably and Azhar Ali looks completely out of touch for a while now.

Babar Azam should consider coming up the order, maybe as one down because we always find ourselves under 100 runs and 4 to 5 wickets down due to the pressure from the top order. We need Babar Azam and Fawad Alam to play more together so they can form partnerships together. We always see it's either Babar Azam clicking or Fawad Alam but what's needed is for them to both click is where the partnerships will form.

The ball has started taking some good turn. Need to add atleast a 50 more runs to give our bowlers something to defend.

Pleasantly surprised by the restraint and defensive technique shown by Faheem.

Watching those final overs, Yasir will surely have a part to play in defending in the 4th innings. Has to get his act together.

Crucial knock by Babar. Pressure runs on a tricky surface.

Faheem played the situation well imo. No point chasing runs himself, in fading light with the team 5 down. Patience was needed, come back tomorrow in better light, start again & try to build. His job was to make sure Babar doesn't run out of partners. Smart cricketer.

So Faheem deserves all the credit? what about those 30 odd people in the back that told him to play like this before he came out?

I have no problem with reading about you giving credit where-ever you think it is due.

I don’t think there are any snakes in the pitch. I did catch the game and there is little bit of assistance fir bowlers but both teams batted poorly.

If Pakistan can set a target of 220, West Indies will crumble under pressure. Their batting lacks talent and cannot handle the pressure.

A lot depends on Babar Tomorrow.

Faheem Ashraf joined captain Babar Azam to see out day three of the first Test, edging to a lead of 124 and giving his team the upper hand.

Ashraf was resolute in his defensive approach, ending on 12* (78), while Babar compiled his 17th Test fifty in spite of tricky conditions and a mini-collapse at the other end earlier in the day.

The efforts complimented a solid job from Pakistan's bowlers, who ensured the hosts couldn't extend their first innings advantage in the morning session.

Eight wickets down to begin the day, the West Indies could only add two runs from their overnight score, bowled out for 253 after Shaheen Shah Afridi claimed both Jomel Warrican and Joshua Da Silva.

With a 36-run deficit, Pakistan in reply lost Imran Butt (6) early to Kemar Roach, though the second wicket pair of Abid Ali and Azhar compiled 55 to hand the visitors a lead.

The pair fell in quick succession to Roach and Jayden Seales respectively, and when Fawad Alam edged to Joshua da Silva for a duck, the West Indies looked on course for an early finish, as their adversaries fell into a hole at 65/4.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam had different ideas however, putting on 56 with Mohammad Rizwan, who fell for 30 after a rain delay.

The skipper battened down the hatches, passing fifty at a strike rate in the low forties, with new partner Faheem Ashraf taking 65 balls to reach double figures.

The pair played out a number of maidens in their stay, with three home quicks conceding less than two runs an over. Seven of Roach's fifteen overs were maidens, finishing the day with 2/15. Kyle Mayers (0/19) and Jason Holder (1/27) were also miserly.

As the light began to fade at Sabina Park, the hosts turned to spin to break the partnership, though the left/right combination held firm. Jomel Warrican and Roston Chase asked questions, though couldn't find the key breakthrough late, with skipper Kraigg Brathwaite also trying his luck to no avail.

Pakistan finished the day with a lead of 124, and may look to push on during day four with rain a possibility for day five.

This is Babar's chance to step up, I haven't been impressed with him in Test Cricket so far, he needs to play a Joe Root type innings tomorrow! A target of about 200 and this should be a cracker of a test match!

People really took for granted how great of a test batsman Younis Khan was.

Already beyond normal WI performance

Need 80 more to rule out any heroics by Braithwate and Holder causing problems
