In an early clash of tournament favorites, Pakistan is set to face New Zealand at Buffalo Park in East London, South Africa, in the ICC Under-19 Men's Cricket World Cup 2024. Both teams have secured two victories each in the tournament, accumulating four points, with Pakistan holding a slight edge in the standings based on net run rate.

Pakistan has showcased dominance in their previous matches, securing comprehensive wins. In their opener, they defeated Afghanistan by a significant margin of 181 runs, followed by a successful chase against Nepal with five wickets to spare. Despite their early success, Pakistan is striving for their third U-19 World Cup title, with their previous triumphs dating back nearly two decades. In the interim, they have finished as runners-up on two occasions.

On the other hand, New Zealand started their campaign with a convincing win against Nepal but faced a stumbling block against Afghanistan. While chasing, they lost nine wickets but managed to pull off a victory. Unlike Pakistan, New Zealand is yet to claim a U-19 World Cup title, although they reached the final in the second edition of the competition in 1998, ultimately finishing as the runners-up.

This is gonna be the real test for the Pakistan U19 boys. They struggled against Nepal and New Zealand is not going to be an easy team to beat. Good luck boys.

Pretty much a dead rubber but it is important to win these so you can have your morale and confidence high. Because the team coming up in the next stages won't be easy.

It’s not a dead rubber the points will carry forward to the next stage and each team will play only 2 more matches after this round so the top 2 teams from each 2 groups will qualify for semi final.

Yeah. Actually you are right. Forgot the points system here. My bad. Pak should win this one.

Pakistan's quite a serious opposition. Like everyone knows they're quite a powerhouse, especially at the under 19 level.

It's pretty exciting, but nerve wracking at the same time.

Like, obviously you spend a lot of time around the same guys here in New Zealand and you get used to them.

So going against other guys that are really good at what they do and then also come from different backgrounds, have lots of different skill sets, it's quite exciting, but nerve wracking at the same time.

I think all the boys respect Pakistan.

I think everyone knows their success in Asia cricket on the world stage, men and women over the last few years.

So I think to be able to test ourselves against them is going to be something really exciting. We know they're going to have a lot of pace, a lot of good batting, so it's going to be really exciting, really challenging, but all the boys are pressing for it.

why is riazullah dropped after the first match? He played very well

NZ have never beaten PAK in a U-19 World Cup match

Apart from Lockie Stackpole's knock, PAK have been all over NZ kids.

I dont understand the tesm selections...every match different. We are batters short surely.

Naveed Ahmed is a very good bowler but has a habit of bowling full tosses every now and then but gets good turns and bounce off the surface , much better than Asfand for sure.

Agreed we need to drop Ali asfand and get Riazullah in. At the moment they have 7 bowling options. You don't need that many.

Wow what a captaincy and game awareness from Saad Baig, in previous over of Arafat he told Arafat that batsmen is leaving the bat outside the offstump , he will get out if you bowl a quick straight delivery and that exactly what Arafat did in the next over, champion brain from such young age.

I really wish Saad really improves his batting and get in to the national side , his captaincy and field placing and matching up batsmen with his bowlers is just outstanding at this level.

It was all Ubaid Shah at the start of the Kiwi innings. The pacer beat the bat several times by getting the ball to jag around considerably. He ran through the New Zealand top order in his first spell. Luke Watson had barely settled in when Ubaid beat him with a peach and sent his off stump cartwheeling.

His partner, Tom Jones, looked like he had settled in with three boundaries, but Ubaid's moved one prodigiously in the seventh over and got a thick nick that went behind to the keeper. Snehith Reddy was sent packing off the last ball of the same over when Ubaid swung one in and sent his middle stump into air.

Oscar Jackson added 26 for the fourth wicket along with Ollie Tewatiya but fell to a good length ball from Mohammad Zeeshan. Jackson tried to go leg side but the ball rose on him and took a leading edge which went straight to the gully region.

Lachlan Stackpole brought the initiative back to New Zealand with a flurry of boundaries. He backed his timing against the pacers, and used power to muscle fours and sixes against the spinners.

Naveed Khan brought Pakistan back into the game with his strikes. Stackpole fell while trying to dispatch the off-spinner over the covers. The ball didn't elevate to the intended level, and Shamyl Hussain took a catch. Tewatiya was the next to go, getting stumped off Naveed's bowling. Ali Asfand and Arafat Minhas struck with their left-arm spin to rattle the Kiwi tail.

The Kiwi innings fell through, and they were bowled out for 140.

Both New Zealand and Pakistan are through to the Super Six stage, and will look to bag two crucial carry-forward points today.

I am very impressed by Shahzaib. Excellent batsmen with an impeccable technique and temperament. Future star inshaAllah.

Excellent start, they saw off the new ball and then started playing positively, especially Shahzaib.

Comprehensive win. Both batters looked very good.

But strange decision by kiwi youngsters to bat first, anyways they are also through.

A lot of maturity for a team that is very raw and young. But let’s see how they do when it really matters.

Truw lets see what happens when it is crunch time..i remember them messibg up in asia cup semia

From past few years our U-19 batting has looked promising. Lot of young cricketers with solid technique and temperament. What could be the reason?

In response, Shamyl Hossain and Shahzaib Khan had Pakistan off to the perfect start. Putting their foot on the pedal, they set the right tone for the chase. Shahzaib took the lead in run scoring, even as the Boys in Green went at better than run a ball.

The duo slowed down after their enthusiastic start, going at about four an over between overs 11-17. However, Shahzaib picked pace again, taking on Tewatiya, hitting the left-arm spinner for two sixes in the 19th over. Shamyl followed suit taking on Zac Cumming in the 21st over, hitting a six and a four against the leg-spinner, before letting Shahzaib sign off with a six off the final ball of the over.

The duo made it feel like Pakistan were playing on a different wicket. The Boys in Green won the game with all their wickets intact.

We have a good coach in m yusuf and junaid khan

Ubaid shah looks very promising he's much better than the overhyped zeeshan

Just been speaking with a friend who's from Mansehra the same area as Sahzaib Khan. He says he went to the same school as Shahzaib and they are both the same age, 27. This is one of the biggest problems in Pak cricket, age fudging. I'd love if ICC did wrist tests and warned PCB regarding over age players

Tell your friend to stop lying. There is no way on earth that he's 27.
