Michael Atherton declared when Hick was a few runs short of a century against the Aussies. It ruined Hick's confidence and destroyed the mood in the dressing room as a whole.

Imran or Mark Taylor declaring their own innings closed when they are close to landmarks isn't the same as doing it when another player is near one. Different players react differently and the captain needs to know how to handle each one of them, just because Imran declared just to send a message doesn't mean it's always the right thing to do.

Can't agree with this though. There were 9 wickets left and only 100 needed, so they definitely needed to bat faster than they were doing. The fact that they can score 20 in a good over just demonstrates how flawed the earlier approach was.

Disagree. Pakistan employed the same tactic in the first innings, blocked all day 1 then feasted on tired bowlers. IMO more of the same here and it's working, Pakistan will win this game barring a miracle or a Moyo captaincy method.

That was appropriate because there was time to feast on them. Here time was of the essence, so the opportunity to capitalize on exhaustion was non-existent. I agree 450/500 is good because Aussies can't play for a draw, but it could have happened much quicker. I also agree Pakistan will most likely wrap this one with up time to spare, but they shouldn't have left any room for the Aussies.
