Even Hafeez is a much better Test opener than these two. Anyone who wants Toffee over Masood over him is plain retarded.

Shaan is the batting version of Rahat. Has all the ingredients, just lacks confidence to back himself. His footwork even in scoring shots is quite tentative. Someone needs to mentally buck him up

Would be very surprised if shan tries to go here, his career is on the line here.

anyone else noticed that the wickets in all the three matches that is Australia vs South Africa, Zimbabwe vs Bangladesh and Pakistan vs New Zealand fell on the same score which 8/1 :D

All the ingredients minus talent. Rahat is very gifted.

No matter how hard you work, you must have a certain basic level of natural ability.

I don't see ny ingredients in Shan to be honest

I must admit I would have gone with Hafeez even without his bowling instead of going for Masood. Masood cannot exploit the new hard ball on a dead pitch which is the least one could expect from any opener.

At this point if we go into a shell, we'll make NZ just roll over us, with pressure tactics. Need to play positively.

I believe getting the job done should be the criteria. Sarfaraz, Azhar, Junaid et al have comparatively less talent than their counterparts or their competitive peers but determination and grit can help you go a long way. Shaan even though low on natural talent than others is a hard worker - at least thats what the general perception is and with Grant as the coach can turn into a very reliable makeshift opener with Shehzad until we find a long term proper solution.

LOL now i want shehzad and hafeez back :D

one over the hill and one siraafshii dont make a good sight.

I haven't seen something like this is really long. Aus v SA 4th ODI in Melbourne - 8/1 with Warner gone. Pak vs NZ 2nd Test match, 4th innings in Dubai, 8/1 with Taufeeq Umar gone. Bang v Zim 1st ODI in Chittagong 8/1 with Tamim Iqbal gone. "

Cricinfo.

What an coincidence !!!

I would invest in someone with atleast some ability, Shan in my opinion is the crapest opener we have ever played

When we have players like Azhar, Masood and Taufeeq in our team can not expect to chase 150 in 60 0vers.

Pakistan is going to panic, like they did in srilanka earlier this year if they keep going like this. Just play positive, bat like you did on 3rd day.

All three are also left handers. :yk

Cheers Taufiq, put the pressure right on us why not.

Still a gettable target but hope we don't go into a shell now.

Sarfraz, Azhar and Junaid may not be very gifted, but they are talented enough to have their hard work bear fruit.

Masood seems to lack even that talent.

Someone with ability but who is under cooked for international level cricket can destroy careers. Look at Umer Akmal mate, one of the most talented bats in the Sub Con post 2009 and look at what he has ended up being  - a glorified slogger. People with talent also need to go through a system of competitive cricket before they should be inducted in the international arena. Therefore I said that until we find a proper long term solution, Grant and Waqar should work with Shaan to become a reliable make shift opener

Clearly missing Shehzad and Hafeez here. They could have made an ODI out of it.

I think we are playing for draw!!!! Misbah and Waqar both defensive player. 100 in 50 overs!!!

And lol at those saying Shan has no ability.

He is a record breaker in England for most tons.

I would rather play Hafeez or Farhat along with shehzad instead of Shan, he doesn't deserve to play international cricket

That seems to be the trend ATM but I am still keeping my fingers crossed. Only time will tell though TBH, anyways if Shaan fails to score now this could very well be his last outing in the international stage

People slam Hafeez an Shehzad but at least you know what you get. Shan and Taufeeq haven't batted for Pakistan for donkey years. They look like deer in the headlights but that was expected tbh.

So it's very unfortunate for them to come in when Pakistan is riding the high-wave.

Shan Masood will be dropped if he fails. Sad that he has to play under such pressure.

Don't see him in the team for the next UAE season. I think Sami Aslam would replace him.

Masood looks like holding a baseball bat against spin. Not a pretty sight.

synchronisation between the international games lol

This is probably the reason why I rate the Pak Cricket Management, Administration and Support Staff as utter failures. if they can't give confidence to a struggling player, then what is the use of them being there at all ???

14.69 Taufeeq Umar's Test average in 4th innings, since 2004. In 16 attempts, his highest is 39

Chalo!!!!!

Looks like they are not going for the target. Quite disappointing for me though, the difference between good and great teams :(

Still a long way to go for us if we want to be called the best in the business.
