Not convinced by these openers, they don't look like they'll average over 40, especially Masood who has unimpressive domestic stats. Think they'll be good in the UAE, mid 30s openers. Except they can't bowl. Which Hafeez can. I'm not totally sure these guys are really an improvement on Hafeez sadly.must be laughing now, his bowling would have been handy here

Jamshed is the only opener who looks a really promising talent, hence I'd have played him, even if he fails a bit at the start.
The thing is none of our guys can play the new ball well in Pakistan. Our cricketers just lack that skill. Poor domestic structure/coaching in that regard. Until we do something about that, we not going to get quality openers. Perhaps the way to go is to get a mediocre opener and make sure he has an extra asset e.g. bowling which makes his overall worth good. Hafeez promised to be that for a period, but his batting has become like a tailender. And he plays the new ball the worst of the lot.
The best option was probably to push Azhar to open, get Jamshed in. Then get umar akmal in middle order.
Can people give up on Hafeez? He is less than useless. Azhar and Shafiq need to go with the Umars in. Adnan needs to go for Rizwan. guys like Dhawan or Sehwag are an extremely rare breed of cricketer.U need to find a guy like dhawan,i know he is largely untested in foreign conditions and doesn't have the best of techniques but he negates the swing by coming down the track.
In short u guys need an agressive opener who knows how to use his brain.
on cricinfo "Rudradip: "The last time Graeme Smith hit 150+ vs Pakistan,(151,Cape town 2003) another Pakistan spinning legend had a bad day! HE was none other than the MAGICIAN Saqlain Mushtaq ; he had gone for 50-3-237-3(was Pak's highest wicket taker in that innings)." "

Plus I'm not sure those tactics work that well abroad in Aus, SA, Eng.
Misbah has to bowl Ajmal and Babar now. Over rate is poor.
After this performance wouldn't you think the same?Wessels rubbing it in lol, suggesting last game was a fluke.
I hope Smith declares now & bowls for 8-10 overs .

Why? They can mount a lead. There are 3 days left. They could bat all of tomorrow make a lead of 600 and bowl us out in final two days if they wanted. They want to show how good they are and last match was a blip on the radar.
Just negotiate the new ball and Pakistan do have the ability to bat for two days. Won't win the game or even draw it but it'll show a bit of fight and character.

So that his team can laze around in hotel on day 4 & 5 .
I remember the Lankans scoring 900+ against South Africa.
